There’s a popular meme that only two defining forces have offered to die for you - Jesus Christ for your soul and the American soldier for your freedom. There is no man who can ever compare with Christ but there is a kernel of truth to this meme.
Shortly before his crucifixion, Jesus told his disciples, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one more than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” This is what military volunteers are prepared to do.

For anyone interested in an inspiring Memorial Day message, Jack Hibbs’ sermon from yesterday is terrific:

Today I celebrate the men in my life who gave up their time for the war effort...they didn't hesitate to volunteer and serve their country.... I honor them today....

On Memorial Day, I like to read Patton’s speech to troops in England just before D-Day. I also like the St. Crispin’s Day speech from Henry V (Shakespeare) or Kipling’s poem “The Young British Soldier.”

All true...but also on this day it behooves history to mention, "Decoration Day" as it was once known, was a southern confederate memorial, and they brought flowers and prayers not just to their own fallen sons, fathers, brothers and cousins, but the Yankee soldiers buried there as well.
I remain forever grateful to the people of the tiny town where our family cemetery sits, with graves going back to 1650. This day, every year, someone places flowers upon the graves of our family dead, many of whom served, and some of whom died, in EVERY conflict from the French and Indians war until today, when for the 1st time in our history we have no member currently serving in uniform.
Thank You Hartwick! Thank you America.
It has been an honor and a privilege.

I will miss my nephew, a USMC Captain killed in a firefight in Afghanistan, until the day I die, when I hope and pray to see him again.

It is a bittersweet Memorial Day; to remember our fallen from past wars when our country had honor. Perhaps that is why there are so few posts on this thread, so unusual compared to past years. I feel I owe an apology to all those brave men and women who came before us and fought with honor in the colonial Indian wars, the Revolution, War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, WWI and WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf Wars and now the idiot in the White House is leading the world into a third conflagration.
My family has been blessed; going back to the Civil War I am unaware of any combat deaths among our members that served. We had wounded, but no ultimate sacrifices. This Memorial Day for me is more a grieving for my country, and grieving for the apparently fruitless sacrifice of the hundreds of thousands of men and women over the last three hundred years of our colonial and national history; that their love and service is now forgotten and cast aside along with the statues of their leaders and commanders. May God have mercy on the United States of America and deliver us from the evil that has overtaken our nation.

Memorial Day love and gratitude to our own MissLucianne, and now her family and team here.
To those still here who met years ago in Tennessee,
let’s keep her light shining Truth, with Patriots like Devin Nunes, Senator Johnson, Kari Lake, Marjorie Taylor Green, Dr. Peter Navarro, Steve Bannon, and do add any more that I may have not noted…
Praying a Proverb a day, staying close to Our Savior and Lord.
