New York — The New York City suburbs nearly cost Gov. Kathy Hochul her job. Now, far from treading with caution, she’s pushing a proposal that may be radioactive in the bedroom communities that dot the region: A plan to mandate more housing in those suburban counties, some of the nation’s largest and wealthiest. Hochul wants to give the state bold new authority to override local zoning laws in cases where municipalities resist the measure, which she hopes will help address a housing shortage that’s made New York one of the least affordable places in the country.

There's so much wrong with this idea, I don't know where to begin. Obama tried this, but Pres. Trump stopped it. She wants 800,000 new housing units in 10 yrs.? Has she even heard of supply chain issues causing building supply shortages and very high prices? Cities are not in the business of building housing. By the time these houses are done, they could cost way more than can be afforded by most of those she claims to want to help. Enter big government spending our money on section 8 renters that don't take care of the property, and will look like a slum in very short order.

When are the voters of this state going to get a clue? They had their chance to dump her, instead they reelected her. This is on you voters.

I say start building them on Martha's Vinyard and Long Island and Manhattan. And then all the gated houses in DC and Maryland.

People who worked hard to leave the squalor of the high crime city will find it's coming back. So NY had the biggest population loss? She ain't seen nothing. It is a good way to punish the 'burbs that kicked out the Democrats, though

Hochul and her ilk, including the NY AG, know nothing about real estate, or their values. No one is going to pay a million dollars to move into a neighborhood of pubic housing projects, or stay in a luxury hotel that has been destroyed by illegals, drug addicts, and the homeless. That is the trouble with communism. There is no way to better yourself or your life.

States being able to override local zoning law is a very large part of the Great Reset Plan. Building low income housing and multi-fmaily housing in wealthy neighborhoods, and even allowing the building of several homes on one larger lot. They call it equity.

Uprising? Don't be ridiculous. A goodly portion of the housing will contain young college grad females who will vote to protect against imaginary threats to their uteri.
Even while voting to de-prison actual perpetrators of rape and murder who will target them.

Everyone knows what ‘affordable housing’ means, including Hochul. It will be overrun with drug addicts, criminals and people on the taxpayer dole. The idea is to have State control over suburbs and destroy them. These people didn’t vote for Democrats in the midterms but they were overruled by the liberals who did.

We have HUD encampments (Section 8 makes it sound not so dilapidated, yet) near our suburb home and the fascists goal is to dilute the precinct votes at election time. Yes, crime rises, SAT scores plummet and puts hundreds of uninsured motorists on our streets. What fun!

This idea gets 'trial ballooned periodically' in various locations. It's a lunatic idea
based on what someone I read regularly calls the 'magic dirt theory' !
If you take a person who lives in a 'less desirable' part of town and transplant them
by any means available, into a more desirable part of town with better 'behaved'
residents then the 'transplantee' will somehow magically give up their old non-productive'
ways and become a shining citizen simply by the virtue of being surrounded by other
examples of 'good citizenry' !
Like most leftist ideas, start with communism itself, this TOTALLY ignores human.
It's another repeatedly pipe dream promising the moon and the starts to get
the uninformed &/or ignorant ( in the truest meaning of that word ) and \or apathetic
to VOTE FOR YOU ! Nothing more. This woman, those supporters / staff around her and
those who vote for her or others like her, are all fools and dangerous fools at that !

The big cities have soiled themselves, so now they are irritated that people flee their jurisdiction and try to extend their reach. It won't work because the people will flee their oppression again and again.

What is around you has a big impact if you pay attention. I used to go to a particular chain grocery store on my way home from work. Some genius built a large apartment complex nearby. Shortly after that, one of the checkers mentioned to me that shoplifting had skyrocketed. She attributed it to the people in the new apartments. That store closed within a couple of years.

If housing for people who have not worked for it and can't pay to maintain it begins to go up in affluent suburbs, watch how quickly the BLM, Love Each Other and COEXIST signs come down. The problem with liberals is that they can only support their stupid idealistic fantasies from afar. Their signs will all be replaced by NIMBY. Martha's Vineyard did it overnight and not one lib opened his mouth.

Exactly, #17. Step 2, when the ideals do not come to fruition, will be young thugs who suddenly find themselves surrounded by nice cars with expensive wheels, lawn furniture that is sitting outside for the taking and white kids with lunch money in their pockets that aforementioned thugs can put to better use. Doors that were never locked are suddenly locked all of the time. Over the course of time, those who can afford it move out, property values plunge and you have a new slum that used to be a nice neighborhood. Idiots like Obama and Hochul can not name one community where this degradation did not happen because there isn't one.

Crime, crime and more crime. This along with the loss of quality of life and overloading schools where your children will no longer get the education they deserve. Democrats, like this piece of trash know how to do one thing and one thing only, destroy, destroy and destroy. What has any democrat in any part of this country done that benefits the hard working American taxpayer. You got it, nothing, nadda, zippo. All they do is line their pockets with your money. Got it.

Dems have criminals as a major core constituency. They want EVERYONE to "enjoy" the wonderfulness of being robbed, having their home or car broken into. So, put the scum housing into suburbia where crime is currently rare.....spread the "wealth" of crime.

#7 has it exactly right. "Equity" is the new communist/socialist/globalist buzzword. First, Biden erased US borders with the goal of importing more poverty into the US. He dictated to us how it was going to be, and put American taxpayers on the hook for his growing population of opportunistic, fake asylum seekers he invited to enter the US illegally.
"Equity in housing" is a quick and dirty way of redistributing wealth middle class Americans earned when they worked and saved to live in the suburbs. Corrupt politicians are scheming to reduce property values for suburban homeowners by making those suburbs less desirable by cramming multiple housing and small homes on single family lots that already have a homes sitting on them.
Why does government want to devalue middle class neighborhoods? Repairing and rebuilding poor neighborhoods seems like a more logical solution, because investing in them raises both values and desirability of those neighborhoods. In addition, the homes come with their own lots. They just need to be brought up to standards.
