Jimmy Carter, the longest living president in U.S history, has decided to live out his final days in hospice care in his Georgia home with wife Rosalynn by his side rather than seek more medical treatment.
The 98-year-old's charity The Carter Center announced on Twitter on Saturday that after a series of short hospital stays, the former peanut farmer has 'decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention.'
It said the Democrat, who has dedicated his life to public service and charity, has the full support of his medical team and family

At least he gets to die knowing that he is no longer considered the worst occupant of the oval office.

You are the only dem for whom I voted. Hey, I was in my early 20s, and I believed the press about Ford.

Jimmy lived long enough to be elevated to 3rd worst president of all time. His final words will be “…thank you Joe and Barrack…”

I was very impressed with the hospice care my mother received. All medication was withheld except for pain medication as needed. She passed within two weeks. Luckily she did not have cancer or some other debilitating condition. She had advanced Alzheimer's with heart failure. She had no fear as she did not understand what was happening. She slipped away in her sleep.
I hope the same for Mr. Carter. I know he is a man of strong faith.

Nice. Kind. Good person.
Hmm.
Naw, let it go. Leave it to others who were there and remember what he was and worse, what he became post-1980.

Had both parents and in-laws on hospice before they died. It makes a lot of sense once they get to a certain point. While I suspect it is a bit of a Medicare billing racket for doctors and hospice companies, the actual workers who see and care for the patients are absolute saints. I could never do that work for any amount of money.

As awful as he was as president, his Habitat for Humanity was a very good charity. Carter was deceitful when it came to his PR #3. Trying to be everyman by carrying an empty suitcase was not the actions of an honest man.

I choose to forgive President Carter for carving Education out of Health and Welfare. Bad move altogether. Completely ruined American education from which there'll be no remedy. And increased government. Hiss. Boo. Gas lines are nearly forgotten, so is having to wait to buy fuel on the day according to your last initial. Who dreams up this stuff?

Not a good President but a decent man. Met him once at the aftermath of the Resaca, GA tornadoes. I had an insured who had his house blown away. He told me to take care of them and I told him that was what we were in business for. The house was a total loss but, thankfully, the family survived.

I remember the 70s. Just as the Boomers were picking themselves up from LBJ's generational genocide, along comes Carter to snatch home ownership away from them with double-digit inflation and tripled house prices. Carter was the first Democrat to shut off America's fuel supply, an inspiration to millions of hippie tree huggers whose Woke grandkids now want to take away our cars & our gas cook stoves. Carter installed the Iranian Ayatollah jihadists because his prissy attitude wouldn't tolerate pro-American Shah Reza Pahlavi. Carter's weak-kneed response to the Muslims gave the Soviet Union a new lease on life, which otherwise might have obviated Reagan's gigantic expansion of federal power. His fear of the Kennedys allowed Chappaquiddick Ted to run amok. How many $trillions and lives did his prickly conscience cost us in the Mideast alone? Carter's damage will outlast him handily..
Oh, but he was such a good guy. No, he was a sanctimonious fraud and behind that smile was a ruthless cutthroat.
To his credit, he was not as phony as the Clintons, and he was not as evil as Obama or Biden.

Ford was a b*astard. A stooge for the Warren Commission and a great pseudo Democrat whom the press actually tried to help against Carter at the end and nearly pushed him over. Ford put far left justice John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court. Stevens plagued us for decades.
Newsweek put out a gushing spread on Ford as the 1976 election wound down. He lost a debate because he didn't know Poland was behind the Iron Curtain. The same crap that followed Carter was present in the Ford Administration along with Henry Kissinger. Most of the bad conditions were there with Nixon at the end. It was an awful decade politically and socially. The dark seventies.
Anything Carter did, Ford would have done. He was a liberal Republican who picked Nelson Rockefeller as vice president. I was a Reagan Democrat who voted for Carter because I despised Ford. I still do. We got the Gipper four years later. And Jimmy was a gracious loser.
Carter was a garbage president. But the one he beat was a toxic waste dump. God bless ya, Jimmy.

Good man? Because he wielded a hammer for Habitat? We can lay every single Muslim terrorist attack of the last 44 years at his feet. Imagine how the world would be today if he had supported the Shah rather than the insane radical mullahs. He has lived out his post presidential life as an angry bitter anti-American anti-Semite.

Anyone other than me see a pattern here?
Like several others here, I do not bear him any ill will, and I hope he ends his days peacefully.
