Mike Gabler, the winner of Survivor 43, announced during the season’s aftershow Wednesday night that he will donate his $1 million prize to veterans in need.
When Gabler, 53, a heart valve specialist from Kingswood, Texas, was asked by host Jeff Probst what it felt like to win the million-dollar prize, he remarked that he made history by being the second player over the age of 50 to win the CBS reality television series. But Gabler switched gears, stating he would make history in another way.

Big question now is how to donate it so it can be fully used to help our veterans and NOT line the pockets of administration personnel?

He should donate it to reliable charities like the Gary Sinise Foundation, Fisher House and the Marine Corps Fund which provides help to the families of those who were killed in combat or as first responders. Keep it far far away from the VA or any other government agency.

Nice job. However, the IRS will want a small taste of that million. Perhaps in the neighborhood of 50%.

Smart move, by donating it the IRS won't get any plus the guy gets to lower his income by same amount probably resulting in more in his pocket then if he kept the winnings.

Ok, that sounds good. But....I have never watched even a portion of a single episode of this mess. The descriptions made it seem like a really nasty, political backstabbing spree.

Suspecting that he hails from Kingwood, north of Houston, not Kingswood, he might probably be aware of Camp Hope, a facility here that has veteran to veteran counseling for anyone in need, for free. I urge anyone who has PTSD and is suicidal to seek information on Camp Hope. It's also one of Michael Berry's favorite causes.

When this 'game show' was first announced I tried to go on it. I thought it was going to
be about ACTUAL survival, something I know just a little bit about.
Thank God THAT didn't work out.
Turns out that it is abut lying, deception, trickery, etc. and performing goofy stunts or
tying to solve silly puzzles. Sound like a training gig for future politicians - jus' sayin'
I too am surprised this abomination is still on, thought it would have died after a few
seasons if that long.
Just a thought. Given that fact that a lot of people still watch this 'thing' and apparently
are 'entertained' by it, maybe we actually deserve the some of the tragic and dangerous
national situations that we now find ourselves in !!

Re #7, that agrees exactly with what I was told about the show by friends...and I had thought that some person who could really make a fire, tie knots, make cordage, hunt.....etc would be the winner. But, friends told me that lying, cheating and political backstabbing was how you won.
So....I never watched any of it.

For real survivor shows, watch 'Alone' and 'Naked and Afraid'.

I used to watch it way back when it premiered, with my young son. We stopped after a few seasons but it was a fun bonding thing for us. This is a very nice gesture and he is a good man, Mr. Gabler. Well done.

Back when this show first started I was all into it. But I stopped watching after season 24 in 2012. Because it had the typical backstabbing homosexual guy and angry Black woman treating the Asian girl poorly. The Asian girl for her part never said anything and the whole series just turned me off after that. It didn't help matters that the host Jeff Probst is a complete arse on the show. I catch snippets of seasons here and there because my daughter and her friends watch it. She told me she likes the drama. In either case I'm glad Mike Gabler won as he seems like an ok Joe.
