Amsterdam No Longer Wants to Be a Narco-State

Amsterdam is launching an offensive to attract tourists interested first and foremost in its architecture and museums, and to bar those who are primarily attracted by its Red Light District and drug dens. These so-called “coffee shops” will soon be closed to foreigners anyway, if the city can get around the legal obstacles to enforce such a controversial measure. In a policy document published last week, the city also declares war on stag and hen parties in the infamous district, as well as on on pub crawls, smoking pot in public, loud party boats, the prostitution industry, and home owners renting their apartments for short stays. Ha! About time. When we were there in 1978 both the drug freedom and the Red Light District, the latter looking like a movie set with red lights and the ladies beckoning from windows, were fluorishing. Nearly 50 years later they wake up?

Thinking back to Belushi's guest opinion on Weekend Update just prior to the 1976 election, encouraging people to vote. It went something along the lines of: "Look at Holland. Everybody votes in Holland. What are they doing there? They're smoking hash in the streets!"

What you should do to attract tourists is close down all your farms--to save the planet.

Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1993) might have played a role in turning the self-conscious hipsters, wannabe relics from the 'Sixties, into international drug travelers. Several (drug addicted) characters in the film mentioned taking long vacations in Amsterdam, where the natives drowned their French fries in mayonnaise and called a McDonald's Quarter Pounder with cheese a "Royale with Cheese" because of the metric system. At the Winter Olympics during the 'Aughts, after a gold medal and a world record in speed skating, a celebrating fan at the ice rink waved a sign that read: "If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much." Too many broken down, hopeless heroin (and other drugs) addicts are looking for places where they won't be set upon by the Man, where they can loll about completely out of their heads while responsible people step over them. If the Dutch are trying to eliminate the drug tourists, their citizens and other visitors will be the beneficiaries. Good for them, and good luck. Cockroaches, including the two legged variety, resist the Orkin man.

I spend about 90 days in the Netherlands, mostly in Amsterdam, back in 1966. At that time all the sex workers in the so-called Red Light District, as they called it, that I came across were either European Dutch ladies or were Asian Indonesians. At the time the Dutch used Guilders as their currency, and as I remember a guy could spend a short time with one of those sex workers for an amount of Guilders that amounted to about $15.00 US currency. However it was really not necessary to pay for anything like that, as all the young local women spoke English and were happy to associate with Canadian or US military members. Back then there was very little narcotics trafficking in that area that we knew of.

Some of the most "creative" thoughts, words, ideas and acts...all of a sexual nature...I experienced (in English) were in Amsterdam as a visitor just passing through. I hope the Dutch can clean things up.

My mom was comedically naive. She took a tour of Amsterdam in '79 and the stories she told when she got back had my siblings and me in stitches. She thought two guys she saw "acting out" in a city park were a guy and an ugly girl, and I dont think she understood why all those girls were in store windows. How she ended up with us 5 I'll never know. We lived in Germany at the time and word around school was that the best hash could be had easy in Amsterdam. The only obstacle was the German border guards, but if you got past them you were home free.

Well, at least they seem to be trying but Western Civilization is rotting from within and our “leaders” seem to think debauchery and drug addiction if just fine and dandy.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday charged Sam Bankman-Fried, the embattled former CEO of cryptocurrency giant FTX and trading firm Alameda Research, with defrauding investors. "FTX’s collapse highlights the very real risks that unregistered crypto asset trading platforms can pose for investors and customers alike," said Gurbir S. Grewal, director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, in a statement. Bankman-Fried had been arrested Monday in the Bahamas after federal prosecutors in New York filed criminal charges contained in a sealed indictment, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Damian Williams, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said on Monday that specific charges were expected to be unsealed Tuesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new rules on Friday that would restrict the use of refrigerators, air conditioning equipment and heat pumps that utilize hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). The EPA’s proposed rule would crack down on the manufacturing and importing of goods containing HFCs, which would restrict the use of HFCs in refrigeration units, air conditioning systems and heat pump equipment starting in 2025, according to an agency press release. In accordance with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, a global climate treaty that the Senate ratified in September, the agency intends to reduce the production and consumption of HFCs by 85% by 2036. “With this latest proposal

An apparent threat by Michigan's Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel to arrest and prosecute local activists promoting election integrity and anti-voter fraud efforts caused many of them to steer clear of a contentious monitoring effort out of fear of being targeted by the government, according to a Michigan attorney deeply involved in the situation. Across Michigan on Wednesday, dozens of counties and hundreds of precincts began a recount for two controversial ballot proposals that were approved by voters on Nov. 8. The first measure in question is Proposal 2, which establishes early voting, expands access to absentee voting and preempts Republican efforts to enact more stringent voter ID rules.

And according to all accounts, he particularly loves killing Americans. Just before he was arrested in a brilliant sting operation by the DEA in 2008, Bout told the informants who were just about to rat him out “that he had been fighting the U.S. for about 15 years and that the U.S. is an enemy,” and that “He was very eager and anxious to carry out this arms deal to kill Americans.” Way to go, Joe. Earlier today, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell discussed the greatest problem for the Republican Party as it exists with voters. Allowing people to vote is not in the best interests of the Republican Party. If the politicians could just devise a government system that didn’t need voters to support it, things would be much better. As noted by Mitch McConnell, “Our ability to control the primary outcome was quite limited in 2022 because of the support of the former president. Hopefully in the next cycle, we’ll have quality candidates everywhere.”
