Since Rep. Liz Cheney accepted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s offer to serve as the vice chair of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Wyoming Republican has exerted a remarkable level of control over much of the committee’s public and private work. (Snip) The feuding brings to the fore a level of public acrimony within the Jan. 6 committee that previously had largely played out behind the scenes, as public attention was focused on a series of blockbuster public hearings focused on Trump’s role fomenting the attack. Reports that the 22-year-old suspect who allegedly killed five people and wounded 18 others in an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs last weekend identifies as "non-binary" have sparked outrage among LGBTQ rights activists and internet users. (Snip) In the court filing, Aldrich is called "Mx. Anderson Aldrich." Many on the internet have cast doubt over whether Aldrich genuinely identifies as non-binary, raising concerns that this might be simply a move to harm the LGBTQ community from an individual who now stands accused of committing a hate crime against queer people. MARYLAND — Gov.-elect Wes Moore said he wants the new FBI headquarters to be in Maryland and has been lobbying President Joe Biden’s administration to keep it from going to neighboring Virginia. In an interview with DC News Now, Moore said this is a serious priority even before he takes office in January as a decision can come down before the end of the year. “I want the FBI in Maryland,” Moore said. “And I’ve been very transparent in my time as the next governor of the state of Maryland, I want that in Maryland.” And given his relationship with

Holiday shoppers might notice some changes this year. Along with heavier foot traffic, there will be a heavier police presence, and some of that is due to a spike in shoplifting cases. "We have extra officers that we assigned to the malls and shopping centers," said 2nd Lt. William Arnest with the Fairfax County Police Department, who supervises a unit of officers who protect area shopping malls. "There was a decrease during the pandemic with people staying home, but shoplifting is now increasing." (Snip) "The crimes I see are far more brazen. The level of resistance, the aggression that some

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg explained the Biden administration is trying to head off a possible rail worker strike that would have serious economic repercussions for the country. NewsNation previewed an interview Buttigieg gave to Leland Vittert, who asked him if the administration would support workers as their union negotiations with rail managers remain on the rocks. (Snip) “Can the American economy deal with it if it happens?” Vittert followed up. “It would not be good,” Buttigieg answered. “Catastrophic?” Vittert asked. “We don’t have enough trucks or barges or ships in this country to make up for the rail network,” said

Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Africa's longest-serving ruler and the longest-serving president in world history, was primed Sunday to extend his unprecedented 43-year authoritarian rule, The Associated Press reported. While Obiang is running in an election, AP noted that the country's electoral system is not considered free, and Obiang has never gotten less than 90 percent of the vote in his four decades in power. This trend looked primed to continue, and just two opposition candidates ran against Obiang, who was expected to once again win in a landslide. Obiang's presidency has seen a regime marked by numerous
