Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg explained the Biden administration is trying to head off a possible rail worker strike that would have serious economic repercussions for the country. NewsNation previewed an interview Buttigieg gave to Leland Vittert, who asked him if the administration would support workers as their union negotiations with rail managers remain on the rocks. (Snip) “Can the American economy deal with it if it happens?” Vittert followed up. “It would not be good,” Buttigieg answered. “Catastrophic?” Vittert asked. “We don’t have enough trucks or barges or ships in this country to make up for the rail network,” said

Ridiculous drama to make it seem he works for al living. The unions have promised not to strike while Congress is not in session, and they know that Congress would force them back to work immediately.

Looks like another fine mess you've gotten us into.
And, this after Biden tried to influence the election by giving excessive pay concessions.
Don't forget, the Union Pacific is owned by a huge Democrat donor, Warren Buffet.
The ILWU (longshoreman) contract is not settle yet either, Pete.

Before the election Biden was out there claiming that he took care of the potential railroad strike situation. Now we are being informed by the media that was not so. Just like most of what Biden has told the American people in the past, Biden’s true intentions were 101% political and were designed to assist the leftist, progressive, and socialist Democrats get past the election, and you can bet that the Union big wigs helped Biden get away with that, and will be now demanding big wage and benefit increases for their members from the railroads.

Someone should tell Pervert Pete that the parties are bargaining under the Railway Labor Act, and that the Act provides for an imposed settlement - in other words, the government writes the contract. Therefore, a strike would be illegal.
(During my labor mediation career, I have, on occasion, written a labor agreement because the parties asked me to do so. I always warned them that a negotiated agreement was way better than any agreement I would write. But sometimes there were stubborn individuals on both sides of the table, and an outsider could break the logjam.
I once was mediating a school district- teachers dispute, and almost everyting was settled except for one dollar h.s. sporting events free tickets. The existing labor agreement provided a free ticket for each teacher, and a free ticket for their spouse, to attend football and basketball home games. The Union president, a single woman, was vexed and miffed that she had to pay one dollar to take her boyfriend to a game, and wanted a free ticket for him.
The school district had a board member who thought it was wrong to give a free ticket to an unrelated person.
I changed the language, removing anyreference to a spouse, and wrote that the District shall provide 2 free tickets for sporting events to each teacher. I also took the board member aside and pointed out that it was a plus to have the teachers at the games.)
That made everyone happy, and the local newspaper made me sound like a genius

Has Pete just figured out that there might be a railroad strike? Has he just figured out that it will have devastating effects on the economy (like nobody has raised the alarm before)? About time Secretary Mayor Pete woke up from his baby care induced coma and paid attention to his job.

Why do we even need a transportation secretary? We didn't have one when the 2 coasts were connected by rail at Promontory Point in 18 whenever. Same for the Depts of Ed, Energy, Agriculture, Civil Rights, Housing, and a myriad or other useless(at best) expensive employment agencies.
We prospered for centuries without them.

Very convenient for this group of incompetent leftists. They blamed high gas prices on Russia, now they can blame a whole bunch of lousy economic consequences on the rail strike.

A rail strike will be catastrophic, period. If it does occur, the House must impeach Buttigieg immediately. This is way out of bounds (and probably planned to create more chaos that they can blame on Trump somehow...) But the Demoncrats own this if it happens....

I know railroad workers and they haven't has a contract in 3 years and with Biden's handlers destroying the economy a 28% raise just doesn't cut it. Also have stupid rules in the contract like 3 hours from notice to be on the rails, after the long up to 12 hours (I believe that was changed but not sure what it is) on the rails they have another 4 hours to get the crew to a hotel? And during China virus the corporate elites laid off almost 1/3 putting the burden on those left. The contract needs a better raise and better planning by management.
