Justice Kagan suggests gender-neutral

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan suggested that gender-neutral admission processes could give “white men” an advantage over people who have been “kicked in the teeth” during an oral argument Monday on a pair of lawsuits deciding whether affirmative action within Harvard University and the University of North Carolina (UNC) is constitutional. During the oral argument for Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard, Kagan suggested to Patrick Strawbridge, who is representing Students for Fair Admissions, that higher education institutions that use gender-neutral policies lead to unequal outcomes for men at universities. Kagan noted that “white men” could get a “thumb on the scale” in university admissions if educational

What’s her problem with white men? She tries awfully hard to look like one. Did she benefit from a “thumb on the scale” as a SCOTUS nominee because she’s a lesbian?

In a merit-based system, it is more likely that the elite universities will be full of Asians. That's why they call UCLA the "University of California, Lotsa Asians."

We are a land of equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. It should be obvious that both cannot exist side by side. In a land of equal outcomes, our professional sport teams, and our jailed populations, would certainly take on different hues and genders

Another high position of power where the lack of intelligence isn't an issue. White men were the majority in college when going to college meant learning a skill such as medicine, engineering, law and such. Now it's nothing but a money-making scam for the colleges themselves that teach nothing of value that result in people getting degrees that can't be used in the outside world.

So Elena thinks men have not been "kicked in the teeth"? There are some indications that men might deserve some preference in admissions. Like the 407,000 dead American men from WW2. Like the 57,000 dead American men from the Vietnam war. Why does she think that 22 veterans commit suicide every day? I would point out to the token lesbian justice that all those dead men are not all white. There were plenty of (too many) black men killed, especially in Vietnam. Are there any women registered by the Selective Service?? As a woman, and a veteran, it is embarrassing to me that priviledged elitist women like Justice Elena Kagan and Justice Sotomayor cannot acknowledge the sacrifice that American men have made for this country. While they were growing up in the 60's and 70's, I can bet that they did not spend one minute worrying their girlie heads that they would be drafted and sent to some strange land to die. They were protected and coddled and could concentrate their worry-free minds on getting into the Ivy Leagues. This coming Veteran's Day, they should spend some time reflecting that they are not under a row of identical white tombstones with tiny American flags.

When she said "gender-neutral college admissions could give unfair advantage to ‘white men’" Does she mean all white men are gender neutral? Can she define what a "Man" is? One of her colleagues can't define "woman" so by de-facto, they shouldn't be able to define "Men" either.

Good heavens. Asians have decades of experience with what it feels like to be “kicked in the teeth.” Imagine you made every sacrifice to excel academically, and yet others, known as “underrepresented minorities” (AKA non-Asian racial minorities) will be admitted without your well earned scores. Your kick in the teeth comes in the form of an undeserved rejection letter. But you will hurt no less than anyone else, because you know have been singled out and mistreated by a rigged system. For years, Asian students have been expected to settle for less in the name of EQUITY and INCLUSION. Racial discrimination is unfair to everyone, and needs to be ended because it is WRONG.

If you want truly color blind admissions, you score qualifications disregarding "accidents of birth" like race or sex, find all who qualify and give them numbers so they are anonymous, put each number in a capsule and put the capsules in a giant drum that rotates. If you have 1000 seats open for the next academic year, you pick out the first 1000 capsules and you now have a randomly chosen class of qualified members of the freshman class. I suspect that is not what the institutions of higher learning want, no matter how they tell us otherwise.

Acknowledging that white men are the most likely to have the highest merit. The main thing that has made the USA successful has been our meritocracy. We USED TO let the most capable do a job. And if that means that mostly white men get the top spots......too darned bad. If you want to compete....compete on MERIT. Don't beg for or insist on less skilled, less capable folks doing important jobs.....BADLY, or at least less well than they would have been done by those with the highest skill set.

Tampa — With barely two weeks left before Election Day, a new Florida Atlantic University poll shows incumbent Florida Republican Gov. The current RealClearPolitics average of polls shows DeSantis up by 10 points. This comfortable lead should come as no surprise, both because of DeSantis’ solid performance as governor and because of Crist’s total lack of performance in the many offices he’s held. We've all heard of the game "Where's Waldo?" Well, I've got a better question. As we look upon the hordes of federal parasites dedicated public servants, where's Pete? We're seeing the convergence of some dangerous circumstances — a perfect storm, if you will. But it's not a convergence of weather patterns, but problems with the transportation infrastructure. President Unity is raising money for Democrats by trying to claim that Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is “Trump incarnate” and scaring senior citizens that Republicans will take away Social Security and Medicare benefits. His riffs on the campaign trail would be amusing if they weren’t so predictable and stale. Democrats are facing a big ole red wave next week and they are running scared. That includes the head of the party, Joe Biden, who is claiming that the midterm elections aren’t a referendum, they are a choice. Unfortunately for Biden, that’s not the truth. Midterm elections are always a referendum on the party in control and this one is no different.
