It was reported this morning that the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July. That was considered disappointing, and appropriately so. Democratic socialist candidate Donavan McKinney was projected to win the Democratic primary to represent the Michigan 13th Congressional District on Wednesday morning.
The Associated Press called the race at 9:59 a.m. on Wednesday morning, at which time McKinney held 51.9% of the vote to Thanedar's 48.1%, with 95% of precincts reporting.
His victory marks the ouster of Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., who attracted national attention for introducing articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump early in 2025.

A federal appeals court ruled 8–5 on Tuesday that Florida may enforce its 2023 Protection of Children Act, which prohibits minors from attending certain sexually explicit live performances, including some drag shows.
The ruling by the full, Atlanta=based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit vacates a district court’s statewide preliminary injunction that had blocked enforcement of the law.
The challenge was brought by HM Florida-ORL, LLC, which operates the Orlando restaurant Hamburger Mary’s. The restaurant argued that its family-friendly drag performances could be swept within the statute and that it would be forced to bar children from attending.

Comey was terrible at his job and was engaged in a massive conspiracy to slander and perhaps imprison the president, pushing conspiracy theories he knew to be false, leaking false information to the media through intermediaries, including information that was classified, and hence he broke the law.

New York Socialist Brian Romero has not yet reached Albany, but he has already launched his first public spending initiative: covering his own rent.
Romero, the Democratic nominee for New York’s 34th Assembly District, launched a GoFundMe asking supporters to cover his rent and groceries while he waits to take office. The campaign sought $2,000 and collected more than $1,000 from 13 donors before disappearing Friday.
The timing was apparently a coincidence. Romero pulled the fundraiser shortly after the New York Post started asking questions.
A district court on Thursday blocked New York from enforcing its assisted suicide law against four orders of Catholic nuns and several Catholic healthcare ministries as their religious liberty lawsuit continues.
The temporary agreement, which New York agreed to, will shield the Catholic nuns and ministries from being forced to take any part in assisted suicides when the law legalizing the practice goes into effect on Wednesday, attorneys with Becket Fund for Religious Liberty announced. The agreement will be in effect while the court considers their request for a preliminary injunction.

The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved the U.S.’ first flu shot that uses mRNA technology: mFlusiva, from drugmaker Moderna.
The FDA granted approval for two age groups, adults 50 to 65 and adults 65 and up, on the condition that Moderna run an additional clinical trial in the older group, the company said in a release. In a late-stage trial, mFlusiva was found to be about 27% more effective than a standard flu shot.
Many scientists and public health experts have touted the idea of an mRNA-based flu vaccine, which uses the same messenger RNA platform as the Covid vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer.
