A federal judge ruled Wednesday that a group of current and former congressional lawmakers are not barred from recovering damages in a case over whether members of Congress are owed back pay for years of suppressed cost-of-living increases. The lawmakers’ legal team has argued that Congress and the president have violated the 27th Amendment with laws that repeatedly blocked the annual cost-of-living adjustments to lawmaker salaries set out in a 1989 law. Members of Congress last received a pay adjustment in 2009, when their salary was increased 2.8 percent to $174,000. The 27th Amendment states that no law “varying” lawmaker compensation “shall take effect, until an election

if i recall correctly, being a daughter of a civil servant, civil servant pay was very low until about 1975 when it was linked to Congressional pay. Now it is linked to Congressional pay. .... As such I wonder about the implications of this court decision.

Fine, but I want all the legal expenses and all the time spent investigating each other instead of doing their actual jobs docked from their pay. Cut back the myriad perks far above the average worker, as if they are free. Not free - I pay for that. Make it less comfy to stay on for a lifetime. We the public are NOT getting a days work for a days pay by any stretch of the concept.

Retired Border Patrol Chief and former CBP Commander Gregory Bovino received the cold shoulder from liberal members of the Boone, North Carolina, community. Bovino says most in the Appalachian community have welcomed him, but he is not being received too kindly by those on the left in the town where he lived before joining the Border Patrol. The seasoned Border Patrol veteran provided Breitbart Texas with a video he took at a county government-run recreational facility where he was approached by a woman who he says was not very happy about seeing him in town, which he once called home. In the video, the woman approaches Bovino and tells him,

Every March and November, Americans dread the notification in their inbox or on the news to “Remember to change your clocks!” Most of us rely on the adage “Fall back in fall—spring forward in spring” to sort out the confusion of which way the clock is moving. But you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who gets excited about the biannual shift. However, many Americans do love the later hours of sunlight daylight saving time affords. With equal fervor, others, particularly older people, dislike the thought of getting up in the dark that accompanies it. It is this lack of consensus, as well as significant pushback from health experts, that has stalled

The Trump administration is moving to close what it describes as a loophole that allows migrants to remain in the United States while awaiting permanent residency. On Friday, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced new guidance directing immigration officers to treat the transition from temporary nonimmigrant status to permanent immigrant status under Section 245(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act as a process that should generally take place outside the United States, according to a document obtained by the Daily Caller. Under the guidance, individuals seeking lawful permanent residency would typically be required to return to their home country, complete screening procedures and obtain an immigrant visa through

Tennessee GOP Gov. Bill Lee on Thursday delayed an inmate's execution by one year after the state Department of Corrections' medical staff failed to find a suitable vein to administer the lethal injection drugs into. The man scheduled to be executed was Tony Carruthers, who was convicted of three 1994 murders and sentenced to death in 1996. Lee scheduled the new execution to take place on May 21, 2027, exactly one year after he was initially scheduled for execution. Carruthers' attorneys have argued that he was wrongfully convicted and stated he has mental illnesses that “continue to impair his understanding of his legal situation and his impending

A group of mostly Democratic strategists and power players are rebuilding a political action committee meant to fortify election-defense infrastructure ahead of 2028 by focusing on often overlooked state offices that control election administration, litigation and certification. The group, Democracy Defenders, which previously worked to support legal efforts and help with post-election planning in partnership with the Harris presidential campaign, tells ABC News exclusively that they’re re-launching their political arm. It plans to spend upwards of $10 to 15 million by “protecting democracy and rule of law” in races for Attorneys General, Secretaries of State and state Supreme Court in presidential battleground states– places they see critical to safeguarding

A woman allegedly tied to Minnesota’s massive “Feeding Our Future” scandal has been charged in a daycare fraud scheme after being featured in a viral video by influencer Nick Shirley, authorities said. She is accused of pocketing millions of dollars meant for children’s meals. Fahima Egeh Mahamud was charged Wednesday with wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States, according to court documents. Earlier this year, Mahamud was indicted for her alleged role in the initial $250 $250 million “Feeding Our Future” scheme. Prosecutors allege she enrolled Future Leaders Early Learning — a Minneapolis daycare where she served as CEO — into the federal child nutrition program, falsely claiming to serve thousands

It was to heal. It's a very selfish thing. My job was to heal. The Marine Corps paid me to get better, and then I retired. And there's nothing wrong with that, but it was unfinished business," Jones said at the ceremony. Jones, a formerly-retired staff sergeant, served eight years in the Marine Corps and was deployed twice, suffering a life-changing injury while deployed in Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician. NEW YORK -- NEW YORK (AP) — George Soros ’ Open Society Foundations pledged $300 million Wednesday toward initiatives it says will defend democratic rights and advance economic security in the U.S. over the next five years. The new strategy comes even as President Donald Trump's administration has singled out the Soros family, accusing them of supporting violence and fostering division. Those attacks are part of a broad effort rolled out in 2025 by Trump and his allies to influence nonprofits and charitable funders through executive orders, by withholding funding or by threatening investigations. “We are continuing our work unabated. Under the U.S. Constitution, anyone who is not a "natural-born citizen" is barred from becoming president or vice president. Now, a House Republican wants to expand that requirement to much of the federal government. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., plans to introduce a joint resolution Wednesday proposing a constitutional amendment requiring members of Congress, federal judges and other Senate-confirmed appointees to be natural-born citizens. The proposal would affect more than a dozen naturalized citizens currently serving in Congress, including several Republicans. Mace, who is running to be South Carolina’s next governor, suggested that the country’s nearly 25 million naturalized citizens, who made the deliberate choice to become Americans, may have divided loyalties.

Poland’s defense minister said no decisions have been made to reduce the number of American troops in the country and recent US moves may only temporarily delay their deployment, after meeting US Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Christopher Mahoney. Vice President JD Vance told reporters on Tuesday a US troop deployment to Poland had been delayed, but that it was not accurate to say the troops were being withdrawn from Europe. Poland was earlier alarmed by reports the Pentagon had canceled plans to deploy 4,000 US troops in the country. Officials tried to reassure Poles that this was not the case.
