Zohran Mamadani’s stunning victory as the newly elected mayor of New York was salt poured in the open wound of an even more titanic blue wave that swept aside any hopes that the nation had turned back to traditional sanity. Just a few of them include the cutting off of trade, imposing taxes without consent, depriving the people of trial by jury, suspending colonial legislatures, and waging war on the colonists. One never knows for sure beforehand, but I think Charlie Kirk’s assassination may be something of a tipping point in American politics and culture, or, at a minimum, an inflection point. Why? Democrats once celebrated Kennedy as the scion of a legendary political dynasty. They now treat him as a menace to society. His break from the blue ranks last year, and the populist movement he has built, mirrors Trump’s earlier rebellion against establishment Republicans. That similarity explains why both men are uniquely loathed by Democratic insiders.

A few days ago, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) gave America some very welcome news. During a press conference he said that his Democratic members had two choices with regard to President Trump‘s upcoming State of the Union address: “The two options that are in front of us, in our house, is either attend with silent defiance, or to not attend.” This will definitely be a win-win for everyone who tunes in Tuesday evening to hear what the President has to say about his first-year accomplishments and future plans for the country.

That’s the blessing and the curse of binary decision-making: Unless perfect is on the ballot, whoever the voters choose will have flaws.
It’s a curse for good governance, because it means the process itself is inherently flawed. Its features and bugs are one and the same; it’ll always be an arduous, inefficient, slow-moving system. (Which, in all honesty, is often a positive.)
But it’s a yuuuge blessing for candidates, because having flaws and character defects isn’t fatal.
A couple of years ago, it looked like the leftist effort to destroy Donald Trump was working. He was debanked by JPMorgan Chase, state and federal lawsuits were piling up like pancakes, and former Attorney General Merrick Garland’s attack dog, former Special Counsel Jack Smith, brought two major cases against the then-private citizen: one concerned election interference, the other classified documents.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison has made an about-face on his decision to fire two police officers for collaborating with Border Patrol during traffic stops.
Bettison is now agreeing to a 30-day unpaid suspension imposed by the city’s Board of Police Commissioners, according to BridgeDetroit. The decision came after days of controversy over whether the officers violated the city’s rules limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
