Investors Should Not Be Barred From Buying Homes

President Donald Trump said last week that he was “immediately taking steps to ban large institutional investors from buying more single-family homes” and “will be calling on Congress to codify” the proposal. His advisers need to show him why that’s a bad idea. Trump promised to “discuss this topic, including further housing and affordability proposals, and more, at my speech in Davos in two weeks.” So there is time to present clear arguments that should convince him to quietly drop the plan. If we had an audience with the president, we’d first remind him that the government in a free country has no authority to determine who

Trump was right. Trump was right. The country is not about market principles, it is about being a place where people can live and be. The organizations buying houses don' t care about that. Trump does.

Except buying up single family homes by outfits like Blackrock is part of the great reset where average citizens will own nothing and be happy. These actions by big capital help to run up the price of a family home beyond the means of a family.

I agree this isn't a good idea in a freedom loving country. So then the question is, how do we disincentivize the Blackrocks so that normies have a solid chance at home ownership w/o having to bid against hedge funds?

#5 - I also find it troublesome to (if legal at all) ban private equity from owning single family homes, though the author does point out that such represents only a small percent of properties across America. But in answer to your question, I think taxation is the route to discourage investors from profiteering while competing against those who would actually live in the homes they buy. The tax codes could easily be written with graduated rates that might still allow small investors some limited opportunity for profit while not taxing at all those who live in the homes they buy and sell.

What is wrong with President Trump lately? Controls on interest rates - - government ownership in private companies - - banning legitimate property purchases. He must have found one of Hubert Humphrey's campaign speeches - - or maybe it was that meeting with Mamdani. President Trump has been going socialist bonkers!

This publication is shilling for BlackRock to corner the U.S. housing market, driving prices so high for most that only renting is an option. Therefore, this publication is dead to me.

Zohran Mamdani has been New York City’s mayor for hardly a week, and his term is already a stew of antisemitism, pro-terrorism, Marxism and discrimination. Voters made a horrifying mistake they can’t correct themselves. But they can band together in a fully justified effort to drive him from office in line with state law. Before Mamdani was elected in November, it was obvious that he was the last person who should hold the job. It was widely know that he wanted to seize the means of production, that his clearly implied wish as an Islamist is to globalize the intifada

The government’s official report on economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2025 won’t come out for another six weeks. But a preview should be a cause for celebration for everyone who isn’t a Democratic politician. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta keeps a running tab on the economy, using economic data as it comes in to produce an ongoing forecast for GDP growth as the quarter unfolds – which it calls GDPNow. The number usually bounces around a little as that data come in, and the final number is usually very close to the official government report that comes out several weeks after the quarter ends. But yesterday saw something unusual.

When Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz decided not to run for reelection amid the massive Minnesota fraud scandal, Fox News said that his political demise “puts the Harris campaign judgment under scrutiny.” But that misses the bigger and more troubling issue. Namely, the media’s culpability in letting Walz get so close to being a heartbeat away from the presidency. Instead of due diligence, the press went into spasms of joy about Walz’s supposed appeal to Middle America. He was an “authentic guy,” “folksy,” with a “great record.” He had “psyched up the Democratic base,” and has “been inundated with supporters professing their love for him.”

When U-Haul released its latest “Growth Index” this week, it made us wonder if blue states will ever get a clue. Once again, the index found a strong migration out of blue states and into red states. “Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee follow Texas as prime destinations. It’s the same top five from 2024 and 2023, although in a different order,” the company said. The biggest losers: California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. Of the top 10 growth states, nine voted for President Donald Trump in 2024 and seven currently have Republican governors.

Last year may have been good for most Americans, but not so much for big media groups. Confidence in the media hit a recent low in November, and bounced back only slightly in December, as the final I&I/TIPP Poll of 2025 indicates. Can the media ever regain their lost luster? I&I/TIPP asks Americans each month two questions about the media. The first: “Generally speaking, how much trust do you have in the traditional or established news media (Example: Washington Post, New York Times, NPR, CBS News, etc.) to report the news accurately and fairly?”

It’s an excruciating economic lesson for the ages. How can one of the most resource-rich countries on the planet, with trillions of dollars of energy and mineral reserves, beautiful beaches, and beautiful people, become impoverished in just 25 years? It should have per capita wealth equal to Saudi Arabia and tourism like Bermuda. Yet half of its citizens now live in “extreme poverty.” The simplest explanation? Venezuelan communist leaders Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro abandoned free markets and “rugged individualism” in favor of the “warm embrace of collectivism.”

Some are estimating that more than half of federal income tax revenues are devoured by fraud. This should not come as a shock. A massive government that funds everything from small businesses to health care to child care to housing is a rich target for thieves. Sharply reducing its size would limit the opportunities to steal from taxpayers. Bandits have been defrauding of the U.S. government on such a colossal scale that even the legacy media has had to cover it, at least somewhat. The Minnesota Somalis looting the public fisc blew the lid so high that now smart folks are finding institutionalized fraud far, wide, high and low.

You have to marvel at the sequence of events we just experienced. On Jan. 1, a socialist was sworn in as mayor of New York, promising the “warm embrace of collectivism.” On Jan. 3, President Donald Trump announced that he’d forcibly removed Nicolas Maduro from Venezuela, ending the country’s 23-year embrace of socialism. We will leave it to the pundits, the lawyers, politicians, and various other “experts” to debate the merits of Trump’s action. But what we can’t let happen is for the left and the mainstream media to ignore or downplay just how tragic Venezuela’s embrace of collectivism has been.

Instead of expressing outrage that fraudsters were stealing massive amounts of money meant to support poor families – and his

After all, what more could the state’s malevolent progressive politics concoct to make it more hostile to business, innovation, enterprise, and hard work than it already is? How about a tax on those who drive the economy? Yes, that should do it. The Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West and St. John’s Community Health in Los Angeles have teamed up to concoct the 2026 Billionaire Tax Act, a citizen-initiated statute that might appear on the ballot next November. Should it pass, it would levy a “one-time 5% tax on California billionaires in this emergency

The Trump administration has canceled the Biden administration’s rules forcing banks to ignore immigration status for loan applications. On Monday, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Justice Department eliminated the Biden guidelines that ordered lenders not to consider immigration status when evaluating loan and credit applications, a rule that had major implications for mortgages, credit cards, and auto loans, Bloomberg reported. The Biden administration maintained that considering immigration status would violate anti-racism laws that ensure equal and fair lending practices. The Biden era rules were intended to help anchor illegal and temporary visa workers into Americans’ communities, for example, by providing funds for homes, autos, and apartment leases.
