President Trump – a historical perspective

Democrat historians outnumber Republican historians by somewhere between 8 to 1 and 19 to 1. The disparity is even worse than those ratios suggest, since many of the Democrat historians are not just Democrats, but hard-left ones, while virtually none of the few Republican historians are hard-right. There’s a name for hard-left historians. They’re called “tenured professors” and we pay their salaries and give them summers off. There’s also a name for hard-right historians. They’re called “Uber drivers” and we pay their salaries, too, but they don’t get their summers off.

Colorado is a much different place from when I grew up in Colorado Springs in the 60s. That was before the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 was drilled under 11,990’ Loveland Pass. It was before the gondola at Aspen and it was before Snowmass was founded. Vail Pass was a treacherous gravel road, and the town of Vail did not exist. It was wonderful. Our family had one of those pop-up tent trailers and we went camping several times a year. Getting there was half the fun.

Part One of this series discussed the rise of Western Civilization from the Greeks and Romans. Part Two concluded with the sad realization that this Western Civilization is falling. The question for this final Part Three is, what will replace it? It won’t be Russia, “a gas station masquerading as a country,” as John McCain famously put it. McCain died before he could witness Russia proving him right by flailing and failing to conquer it’s eastern neighbor for nearly four years now, a conquering that any competent conqueror could have performed in four weeks.

Religious animal sacrifices may soon be conducted by your neighbor in his backyard on the other side of the little fence you share, or perhaps in the condo down the hall from yours. Try not to let the animal’s screams bother you — that would be racist. You see, there’s a small town in Michigan called Hamtramck. For generations, it has been an enclave of Polish immigrants and their descendants. They danced to polka music, ate pierogi, and so on. They were Polish-Americans. They blended right in — as well as our Irish-Americans and Italian-Americans and Chinese-Americans.

It’s a story right out of pre-woke Hollywood. Her country has been taken over by a series of corrupt socialist dictators (ah, but I repeat myself) who’ve seized the natural resources for their own personal enrichment. They’ve suspended or disregarded elections. Not satisfied with stealing the country’s riches, the looters have also entered the drug business to support their palatial lives. The regime operates in league with Russia, China, Iran and North Korea – not exactly upstanding citizens of the international community – whose main interests are in simply disrupting South America, along with sharing in the natural resource spoils.
The Supreme Court will back Trump on firing

In a Supreme Court term with several important cases on executive power, two stand out. Both will be decided this Spring. One is the tariffs case, argued a few weeks ago. The three liberal Justices will go against Trump, of course, because Orange Man Bad. But even the conservative Justices – especially the three appointed by Trump – appeared skeptical that the President could unilaterally impose broad tariffs. Tariffs are much like a tax. The taxing power is generally held by Congress, not the President.

A good part of a person’s success in the game of life is a product of nature and nurture – his genes and the parenting he received. People who were unlucky enough to receive bad genes, or bad parenting, or both, tend to be unsuccessful. Tragically for America, these people who are unsuccessful at life are the very people who are disproportionately successful at having babies. Those babies tend to inherit their parents’ bad genes and learn their bad parenting. When those babies grow up (or, often, just partially grow up) they, like their parents, are unsuccessful at life but disproportionately successful at having babies.

The Babylon Bee – America’s unofficial newspaper of record – said they are indeed, but it turns out to be satire. I think. The Bee’s piece was in the heavy wake of a story that Somalis in Minnesota bilked the government out of something like a billion dollars. I say “billion” not in the way I say “gazillion.” The figure is actually, literally – and by “literally” I don’t mean figuratively – something like . . . a billion dollars.

The facts are still emerging through the fog of war (or is it the fog of law enforcement, or the fog of antiterrorism?). Sometimes people (including myself) draw conclusions on the basis of incomplete information, so let’s start with what’s really known. Our military launched another missile attack on a drug-smuggling fast boat. The boat burst into flames and was dead in the water but did not immediately sink. On-scene surveillance showed that not all of the 11 crew members were killed. One or two men were seen moving in the water.

As a three-time Trump voter with no regrets, I don’t like this message any more than most of you. So don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger. The message is the Republicans in next fall’s midterm elections will lose the House, bigly, and probably the Senate. If politics is indeed “war by other means,” expect the political war next fall to be bloody. Think Battle of the Little Bighorn. Think Stalingrad. Think Pickett’s Charge. Think the Battle of Midway. Think Waterloo. It will be one-sided. Oh, I know the President has done some terrific things – at great personal risk to himself, by the way – even if they were sometimes done unartfully.

“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule” -Thomas Jefferson The other Founders were similarly scornful of pure democracies. John Adams proclaimed: “Democracy… while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. James Madison said: “Pure democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention.” Alexander Hamilton warned: “Pure democracy is as much a fallacy as the idea of eternal vows and permanent alliances.” Ah, you might say, but what about the democracy of ancient Athens? I’m glad you brought that up. Athens was indeed a pure democracy in the sense that the people voted directly on matters of governance. But not all the people.

The fascist who gave fascism its name came to an ugly end. Benito Mussolini was impaled on a meat hook and hung upside-down from a lamppost. Fascists don’t tolerate failure. Democrat leader Charles Schumer is someone I don’t like, and I felt a certain schadenfreude when his Democrat “friends” blamed him for their caving on what has come to be called the “Schumer Shutdown” or, more accurately, the “Schumer Sh*tshow.” But there’s something disquieting about the barrage of criticism from the left.

It might seem that public policy insanity has reached an end in California. After all, what more could the state’s malevolent progressive politics concoct to make it more hostile to business, innovation, enterprise, and hard work than it already is? How about a tax on those who drive the economy? Yes, that should do it. The Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West and St. John’s Community Health in Los Angeles have teamed up to concoct the 2026 Billionaire Tax Act, a citizen-initiated statute that might appear on the ballot next November. Should it pass, it would levy a “one-time 5% tax on California billionaires in this emergency

Westminster, Colorado, police warned drivers Monday that warming up your car by leaving it running unattended — “puffing” — is illegal under state law and makes vehicles “easy targets” for thieves. The reminder is part of a broader push by Colorado law enforcement to cut down on cold-weather auto thefts tied to idling cars left unattended in driveways and parking lots. Colorado’s “unattended motor vehicle” statute requires drivers in charge of an unlocked vehicle to stop the engine and remove the key before leaving it, with a limited exception for remote starter systems if the driver takes security measures. “Puffing is also ILLEGAL in Colorado (immobilizing remote start systems excluded)

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy hammered California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday, accusing him of lying about a supposed extension for revoking thousands of commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) issued to non-citizens. Duffy has long been trying to crack down on the practice of issuing CDLs to truckers who, at times, struggle to understand English or read basic road signs. As common sense would dictate, having such drivers on the road is a dangerous (and sometimes deadly) proposition. The Secretary's fiery retort follows a report that the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) was granting a 60-day extension to approximately 17,000 non-domiciled CDL holders.

Every few weeks, like clockwork, another so-called “civil war” breaks out on the right. It’s always framed as some moral emergency, some existential crisis that absolutely must be addressed right here and right now. And almost every time, when you peel back the layers, it’s the same story and the same people causing the divide. No, it’s not some organic grassroots outrage, and it’s never a real scandal. What it is, is power games, political positioning, and people trying to kneecap the parts of the right-wing movement they don’t control: MAGA.

Some of us have been sounding the alarm bells on the following massive fraud scheme that's about to hit Minnesota like a January blizzard. Tim Walz and the Democrats who run the state approved "family leave" legislation that would, ostensibly, give Minnesota workers up to 20 weeks of paid leave for the birth of a child or to care for a spouse, child, or other family member with a serious health condition. But as this writer noted earlier this month, it's fertile ground for another round of billions of dollars of fraud, courtesy the Minnesota taxpayer.

According to police and a crash report seen by the outlet, the driver was allegedly speeding moments before failing to stop and slammed into and through the concrete wall. Footage also shows the impact sending the white vehicle rotating through the air in the dark.
