Trump was right not to want a second strike

The facts are still emerging through the fog of war (or is it the fog of law enforcement, or the fog of antiterrorism?). Sometimes people (including myself) draw conclusions on the basis of incomplete information, so let’s start with what’s really known. Our military launched another missile attack on a drug-smuggling fast boat. The boat burst into flames and was dead in the water but did not immediately sink. On-scene surveillance showed that not all of the 11 crew members were killed. One or two men were seen moving in the water.

The critics of the killing of the drug terrorists are conflating the laws of war that evolved between nations at war with the actions used to prevent a chemical attack by criminals not part of a uniformed state military. We observe reciprocal obligatios as part of state combatants in a war, but these don't apply when dealing with criminals outside a military structure.

So next time let them swim as long as they can. During wartime, a damaged enemy ship was always' finished' off. This is a drug war.

Stop with this rap about the “rules of war”. The only rule here is “kill them”. They’re not uniformed soldiers - they’re criminals and terrorists. What should the U.S. have done? Sent a boat out to pick them up, advise them of their rights, and get them a lawyer? This is nothing new. One of my uncles was an Army infantryman in Europe; he landed at Omaha Beach. After the Malmedy massacre, they stopped taking SS prisoners. If they surrendered, they were shot. After they got across the Remagen bridge, they pretty much stopped taking ANY prisoners. It was the right thing to do then, and it’s the right thing to do now.

The democraps and media are once again on the wrong side of everything. One needs to ask these people why killing drug smugglers in a boat carrying hundreds of pounds of illegal drugs headed for the U.S. is wrong. Why all the hand wringing over killing drug runners?

The idea of a second strike will anger the same crowd that claims you should shoot to wound rather than kill. In other words, give your attacker another chance to do what you are trying to keep him from doing, rather than eliminating the threat. What, do you think if the narco terrorists survive they will quit and become school teachers?

FTA: "But the President also knows that to murder them as they flail wounded in the water, well, that would make him worse than them." No. It would not. He would still be the President of the United States defending his country and trying to save American lives, and they would still be a bunch of drug dealers. They don't even exist in the same moral universe. However, I agree with the broader point both he and President Trump are making. If the goal is to stop drugs from coming into our country, blasting the boat did the job. I don't like to see our armed forces killing survivors in the water. Having said that, #6 offers a useful perspective here. I'm deeply grateful to his Uncle and that entire generation. They did what was necessary and right and helped save civilization in the process. I would add only this: Like or not, Waffen SS were uniformed soldiers and were, in theory, supposed to be taken prisoner. However, as he correctly points out, the Waffen SS (and, for that matter, the Japanese military) forfeited that privilege by massacring American prisoners. They were irredeemably evil and deserved no better.

Stuff it. Decision was made in theater by the Commander of the battle group - not Trump. I would have held back a second strike only to allow the survivors to destroy the morale of their fellow druggies if they got back to home base.

Given all the IR footage we've seen of these boats (basically, long skiffs with huge outboard motors and probably cans of extra fuel onboard) erupting into raging infernos when directly hit with guided bombs, it's remarkable that anyone could survive such a strike at all.

The liberal media are more concerned about rescuing two drug runners than thousands of American citizens. As I read somewhere else, they should have waiting for their help to arrive before hitting them again.

As a three-time Trump voter with no regrets, I don’t like this message any more than most of you. So don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger. The message is the Republicans in next fall’s midterm elections will lose the House, bigly, and probably the Senate. If politics is indeed “war by other means,” expect the political war next fall to be bloody. Think Battle of the Little Bighorn. Think Stalingrad. Think Pickett’s Charge. Think the Battle of Midway. Think Waterloo. It will be one-sided. Oh, I know the President has done some terrific things – at great personal risk to himself, by the way – even if they were sometimes done unartfully.

“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule” -Thomas Jefferson The other Founders were similarly scornful of pure democracies. John Adams proclaimed: “Democracy… while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. James Madison said: “Pure democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention.” Alexander Hamilton warned: “Pure democracy is as much a fallacy as the idea of eternal vows and permanent alliances.” Ah, you might say, but what about the democracy of ancient Athens? I’m glad you brought that up. Athens was indeed a pure democracy in the sense that the people voted directly on matters of governance. But not all the people.

The fascist who gave fascism its name came to an ugly end. Benito Mussolini was impaled on a meat hook and hung upside-down from a lamppost. Fascists don’t tolerate failure. Democrat leader Charles Schumer is someone I don’t like, and I felt a certain schadenfreude when his Democrat “friends” blamed him for their caving on what has come to be called the “Schumer Shutdown” or, more accurately, the “Schumer Sh*tshow.” But there’s something disquieting about the barrage of criticism from the left.

If this were a boxing match, the Democrats didn’t come out of their corner for the 8th round. If it were a softball game, the ten-run rule got applied. If it were a war, they flew the white flag and laid down their arms. If it were wrestling, they tapped out. If it were poker, they folded, though the time to fold ‘em was a month ago. They didn’t know when to walk away, and so now they have to run.

Democrats have gone full Islam. On the surface, that’s a bit peculiar. When you dig deeper, it’s downright weird. But as always, there’s a cause for this particular effect. Let’s start with the peculiar part. Islamists tend to be religious, much as Christians, Buddhists and Hindus (and, for that matter, atheists, who often disbelieve with a blind religious fervor). In contrast, Democrats tend not to be religious. They’re simple vanilla agnostics. Go down to Starbucks. Ask one whether he believes in God. His response would be along the lines of, “Umm, I’m kinda in-between . . . it all depends . . .

The Senate filibuster is an odd rule. It says 60 votes out of the 100 Senators are necessary to end debate on a piece of proposed legislation. Absent those 60 votes, the legislation never gets put to a vote. The effect is that it takes not just a majority of the Senate – 51 votes out of 100 – to pass legislation. It takes a supra-majority of 60. The filibuster rule is not in the Constitution. In fact, it’s not even in a statute. It’s simply a rule dreamed up by the Senate. In various forms, it goes back to the 19th century, and has been tweaked many times since then.

After Hamas invaded Israel two years ago to behead babies, rape women, torture men, burn people alive, and take hostages, they gleefully promised to do so repeatedly. Israel sought to prevent that. They went into Gaza to root out the barbarians from their underground tunnels. In the process, some people got killed. Sometimes that was because Hamas put civilians in harm’s way. Sometimes they did so for the purpose of hiding behind them, as when they set up their military headquarters in civilian hospitals. Sometimes they did so for the very purpose of getting the civilians killed in order to increase the overall body count.
