When I learned about Ben Shapiro’s new book, Lions and Scavengers: The True Story of America (and Her Critics), I was skeptical about reading it. I wondered if it was going to be just another left versus right polemic, which describes books that I’ve read over the last couple of years. Instead, Shapiro’s book was an insightful, comprehensive narrative about those who will fight for this country and their attributes. He also provided a brutal but accurate description of those people who not only want to destroy their political and ideological enemies but also destroy America in the process. The book was enlightening and disturbing. The times we live in are chaotic,

As I have written before, I don’t know whether Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who shot two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., killing at least one, is 1) a raving lunatic, 2) a devout Muslim–witnesses said that he shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he murdered Americans–or 3) a sucker who fell for Democratic Party talking points. The fact that it is hard to distinguish among these alternatives is revealing. In all likelihood, at least two of the foregoing categories apply. More broadly, we can see that the Democrats’ war on law enforcement is succeeding. It has been focused mostly against America’s immigration laws, which Democrats hate but don’t have the votes to repeal.
Alaska Man Monday: Just for the Halibut 0 replies

One of the things the Great Land is best known for is the fishing. Salmon, trout, grayling, and in the ocean, rockfish, cod, and halibut. Halibut is my favorite fish to eat, a clean, white, delicious fish. When we go out on a saltwater excursion and bring in a load of fish, we often end up giving away some of the rock and cod, but the halibut, I keep for myself. With that said, I’m going to present this story, just for the halibut. Over the past decade, it's become more difficult for commercial halibut fishermen off Alaska's coasts to catch enough to meet their quotas, as the flat whitefish have

If they go by what the establishment media says, future ages will regard our lucky times as the days when veritable gods in human form walked among us, and lo, their names were Barack and Michelle Obama. The media is unstinting and unembarrassed in its fawning over the sainted couple, no matter how ludicrous its adulation gets. These days, Michelle Obama seems determined to test the limits of that ludicrousness, and to push her media sycophants to ever-greater heights of feigned ecstasy at her endless victimhood posturing and mundane pronouncements dressed as wisdom. Her latest book, a heavy $50 coffee-table doorstop entitled The Look, is all about how she became

The shooting of two National Guard members near the White House on Thanksgiving Eve has sparked a fierce debate over Joe Biden’s Afghan resettlement program, and the mainstream media clearly find themselves on the wrong side of it. In fact, CNN’s shocking response shows that the left cares more about protecting Afghan immigrants than fixing the national security mess Biden created. Last week, Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, were ambushed and shot by Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national who overstayed his visa after entering through Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome.

The president warned everyone to avoid the airspace over or alongside Venezuela this week. “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.” We have positioned a serious armada on that country’s shore. Among the explanations for these moves the most plausible I can find is Jeff Childers', who once again documents his views with credible links. The Caribbean communist country is practically daring us to do something about it. “China has poured millions into Venezuelan oil projects and loans,” the Guardian explained. Literally poured. That’s how much money China has. Meanwhile, the paper continued, “Russia has armed Venezuelan

The holidays are getting underway, and most of us are in a festive mood. (Especially me, having just returned from a terrific week in Amsterdam, about which I will do a post if there is overwhelming public demand.) But to be honest, the news wasn’t great. The issue of Somali fraud in Minnesota finally went national in a big way, which you could see as a positive, but the underlying reality is too depressing to contemplate. The search for peace in Ukraine continued to be elusive. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s political career flamed out. Six Democratic politicians encouraged service members to engage in insurrection. And, at week’s end, an Afghan “refugee"

On Wednesday, an Afghan national ambushed two National Guardsmen just steps from the White House. What was he doing here? Well, the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, arrived in the U.S. in September 2021 through Operation Allies Welcome, in the aftermath of Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. Of course, the Biden administration assured Americans that every Afghan entering under that program went through strict vetting. Few believed it then, and it certainly rings hollow now; the shooting looks like a direct consequence of the recklessness that defined Biden’s withdrawal. And Charlie Kirk not only warned us about this, but also believed it was intentional.

We interrupt the current cold civil war to bring you coverage of the onset of the color revolution in America. The clearest sign is a literal sign, a billboard outside of Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina. From the Fayetteville Observer, Billboard in Fayetteville asks airborne soldiers if they joined the Army to serve ICE. The Observer reports, A new ad campaign on a Skibo Road billboard in Fayetteville encourages servicemembers to join its cause by asking, “Did you go airborne just to pull security for ICE?” Sponsored by Win Without War, a progressive advocacy group that promotes diplomatic, peaceful and human-rights-based foreign policy, the billboards were launched across the U.S. this month,

Charlie Sheen is not known for holding back. But a recent conversation with Megyn Kelly offered something rare from a Hollywood figure: humility, self-reflection, and a willingness to admit he might have been wrong. Kelly asked Sheen this past weekend if he had grown more comfortable discussing his increasingly right-leaning views, especially given his father Martin Sheen’s long-standing ties to Hollywood’s leftist elitism. Sheen, who is promoting a book, said that he had. He told Kelly that many people, himself included, remain “beholden to the structure of the house that we were raised in.” Sheen then divulged some truth about the left’s policies, not only in his native California, but everywhere run by Democrats.

One of the young women convicted in the infamous “Slender Man” stabbing of her classmate in 2014 is back in the news after being apprehended by police in Wisconsin. Morgan Geyser was 12 when she and her friend Anissa Weier took another girl, Payton Leutner, into the woods in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and tried to kill her to please “Slender Man,” a fictional character that became popular online. After pleading guilty to first-degree intentional homicide, the Post Millennial reports she explained her actions through mental illness. In January, The Mirror reported that Geyser was granted a conditional release from Winnebago Mental Health Institute, where she had been kept since the crime.

The death of William F. Buckley, Jr. on February 27, 2008, deprived the modern American conservative movement of its founder, for Buckley was preeminently the founding statesman of the movement that gained its political expression first in Barry Goldwater and then Ronald Reagan. When Buckley founded National Review in 1955 at the age of 29, he lit the fire that sparked the movement. Yesterday was the centennial anniversary of his birth. Buckley had already achieved notoriety–if not celebrity–with the publication of God and Man at Yale in 1951. He attacked the undergraduate education on offer at Yale for its hostility to Christianity and its adulation of collectivism. He sought to dispel

The Afghan man accused of gunning down two National Guard members blocks from the White House last week had been unraveling for years, unable to hold a job and flipping between long, lightless stretches of isolation and taking sudden weeks-long cross-country drives. His behavior deteriorated so sharply that a community advocate reached out to a refugee organization for help, fearing he was becoming suicidal. Emails obtained by The Associated Press reveal mounting warnings about the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an asylum seeker whose erratic conduct raised alarms long before the attack that jolted the nation’s capital on the eve of Thanksgiving.

Ken Burns is giving a history of the American Revolution replete with leftist narratives unmoored from facts. In Episode 1, Burns erroneously claims that the driving force of the American Revolution was to steal Indian land. In Episode 2, the narrative is slavery and the evil colonists, including George Washington. After defaming George Washington, Burns adopts the canard that slavery was a cause of the American Revolution, and portrays slavery as an unchallenged colonial evil, ignoring the colonies’ abolitionist movement, a world first.

The ongoing violent actions of the federal Department of Homeland Security are unacceptable

Writing at our sister site, Twitchy, Doug P. shared the testimony. The staff knew the presidency had become nothing more than a managed performance: They moved him, dressed him, staged him, guided him, and fed him lines.

This type of question usually boondoggles the leftist,… The problem, of course, is that the lands of the Apaches were stolen by the Comanches. While the Hurons were wiped out by the Iroquois

As we reported, a judge tossed the case against former FBI Director James Comey for technical reasons, ruling the appointment of the interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, who had filed the matter, was invalid. So it wasn't a ruling on the merits of the case, and it was dismissed without prejudice, so it could potentially be filed again, although there's a potential question about the statute of limitations. The Justice Department (DOJ) has already indicated that it would appeal that decision. So I don't think Comey should be taking that victory lap just yet, because it surely sounds like more is coming.

The results are finally in: Compared to a standard flu shot, the mRNA vaccine was associated with six times as many adverse reactions as infections prevented in adults under 65, and outright failed in elderly people, associated with more deaths and both minor and serious injuries, from injection-site swelling to kidney problems.

The left has gone way off the rails with their anti-ICE actions. Even after attacks on ICE facilities that have left people dead, you still have radical anti-ICE crews wreaking havoc in places like New York City, trying to stop ICE from carrying out its mission. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has made it clear: the radicals aren't going to stop them. Apparently, the radicals heard that the federal agents might be conducting another operation on Canal Street, an area ICE has hit in the past. So about 150 people tried to block agents from getting out of a garage of a federal building,
