The BBC has apologised to US President Donald Trump for a Panorama episode that spliced parts of his 6 January 2021 speech together, but rejected his demands for compensation.
The corporation said the edit had given "the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action" and said it would not show the 2024 programme again.
Lawyers for Trump have threatened to sue the BBC for $1bn (£759m) in damages unless the corporation issues a retraction, apologises and compensates him.
The fallout from the scandal led to the resignations of BBC director general Tim Davie and head of news Deborah Turness on Sunday.

Blue Origin successfully launched its massive New Glenn rocket on Thursday following days of delays, with the spacecraft carrying NASA’s twin satellites bound for Mars.
Thursday’s mission marked the second flight for billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 321-foot-long spacecraft, with the rocket soaring over Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
Along with carrying the Blue and Gold satellites for NASA’s Escapade mission, Blue Origin also successfully landed the New Glenn booster back to Earth, a key feature for the reusable rocket that will allow the company to compete with Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

President Trump signed the revised continuing resolution, a short-term spending bill officially known as the "Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture (Ag), Legislative Branch, Military Construction (Milcon) and Veterans Affairs (VA), and Extensions Act, 2026," on Wednesday evening, which will fund the federal government through January 2026, ending the Schumer Shutdown once and for all.
RedState covered the House passing it in a final vote earlier on Wednesday, with the help of a healthy cadre from the other side of the aisle, including Rep. Jared Golden (ME-6), who was the sole Dem to vote for the original CR over a month ago.

This is a topic that keeps being brought up by various members of the Trump administration: The notion that tariff income from President Trump's tariffs has been robust enough to support a $2,000 rebate check for all Americans under a certain, unnamed income level. (I've seen a household income of under $100k kicked around as the top end.) Most recently, on Wednesday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in a reply to a question from a reporter, assured the White House Press Corps that something like this was in the works. Watch: Here's the exchange:
Question: (President) Trump has talked about sending a $2,000 check to U.S. citizens. Earlier

Tuesday on ABC’s “The View,” Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said he didn’t need a lecture from “extreme” Democrats on the government shutdown.
Co-host Sunny Hostin said, “Bernie Sanders said the vote was a horrific mistake. Governor Gavin Newsom called it pathetic and a surrender. Poll after poll found more Americans on both sides of the aisle blaming Republicans. Even Marjorie Taylor Greene blamed the GOP. As you mentioned, Democrats had big wins last week, so you had momentum. Why give in now? Why bring a butter knife to a gun fight? Are you willing to gamble that the GOP will negotiate on healthcare in good faith

Executives at Ford Motor Company are praising President Donald Trump’s expanded auto tariffs, saying such duties will ensure that manufacturing in the United States is no longer a disadvantage for American companies.
Last month, Trump announced a 25% tariff on imports of medium and heavy-duty trucks and truck parts, such as large pick-up trucks, moving trucks, cargo trucks, dump trucks, and tractors for eighteen-wheelers.
In a recent earnings call, Ford CEO Jim Farley thanked Trump for the newly announced tariffs on foreign cars and car parts.

Welcome to the fourth installment of my "Tracking China in the Americas" series, in which I cover some underreported stories on China's footprint in the Western Hemisphere. I actually had something different planned for this week — a deep dive into how China is reaching out to young people in the Western Hemisphere — but when I saw this bridge fall, I knew I had to switch gears. Anything to point out what China does wrong should spread far and wide. So, check back in next week for the young people stuff. Let's get to the Hongqi Bridge.
You may have seen it on social media, but a portion

So a Chinese fraudster connected to Communist intelligence services wandered in from Canada and bought a trailer park next door to a stealth bomber base in Missouri.
This is not the opening line of a surreal joke.
Whiteman Air Force Base is home to our tiny fleet of B-2 bombers, and yet an RV park just a mile away "is one of several properties near U.S. military interests acquired by a web of shell companies, which are ultimately owned by a couple who live in Canada and belong to organizations controlled by disgraced Chinese tycoon and self-described former CCP intelligence 'affiliate,' Miles Guo," according to a bombshell Daily Caller report.

When Sen. John Kennedy talks politics, you’d be wise to listen. The Louisiana Republican never minces words, and last month, in the early days of the Schumer Shutdown, he made a prediction that turned out to be prophetic.
“It will end eventually when Senator Schumer goes to six or eight of his members and his Democrats and says, ‘Do me a favor. Vote to open it back up. I may have to criticize you, I’m not gonna vote with you, but I need a way out of this. I need an offering.’” He even warned, with his trademark wit, that Schumer

n whatever passes for journolist these days, the word has clearly gone out. Ending the shutdown was a bad move. That's not because keeping it going was good for the country. It wasn't. On top of problems funding SNAP, the country was increasingly having trouble keeping the airports going. But that doesn't matter because the shutdown was good for Democrats, so why stop?
It is very, very hard for the opposition party to win a shutdown.
Which makes it all the more remarkable that Democrats were winning this one. Polls showed that most voters blamed Republicans, not Democrats, for the current shutdown — perhaps because President Trump was bulldozing

The Senate on Monday night passed a bill to fund the government and end the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
The bill, which passed 60-40 with the support of a handful of Democratic senators and nearly all Republicans, will be sent to the House of Representatives.
If it passes in both chambers of Congress, it will head to President Donald Trump to be signed into law. Trump said earlier Monday that he approves the funding deal, which was negotiated between Republicans and a gang of moderate Senate Democrats.
But House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., added uncertainty to the fate of the deal when he refused

The Schumer shutdown is nearing its end, with a deal soon headed to the House, where it's expected to pass. Eight Senate Democrats joined with Republicans to override the frothing mouths of their colleagues, who seem to think they can placate their base by shouting "fight" enough times. It's not the mid-2010s anymore, though. The failure theater of performing on social media while winking and nodding at the surrender isn't enough for the horror show of a base the Democratic Party has coddled over the years. On that note, left-wing echo chamber Bluesky is in the process of a total meltdown over the deal. Here's just a small sampling.
