Oil field owner sues California over law

The owner of an oil field in Los Angeles County is suing the state of California over a law that will require it to stop production and plug its wells or face costly fines. Inglewood Oil Field owner Sentinel Peak argues in the lawsuit, filed this week, that the law, which was signed in September by Gov. Gavin Newsom, is unconstitutional. Attorneys for Sentinel Peak argue that the law “represents an illegal attempt to coerce an individual company to stop operation of its legal business,” according to court documents. They allege that mandatory fines, in particular, violate federal and state laws forbidding excessive fines.

Comments:

Imagine buying mineral rights, buying state permits and developing the oil wells, and then a communist named Newsom comes along and says the state owns it all.

I would suppose that the 4000 residents in 1924 when the fields were developed are no dead and gone…and that the current residents arrived after the fields were developed.

Upon occasion, driving around in residential areas of LA, I have been surprised to see two or three huge pump jacks smoothly nodding away, taking up a city block, while across the street and all around the block are pleasant suburban homes. LOTS of oil production right in LA. And of course the La Brea Tar Pits, right on Sunset Blvd....what do you think the 'tar' is? Oil. And walking around in the pleasant, green park at La Brea, you can see green, healthy grass growing right up to and against oil seeps. Grass an inch away from a natural flow of oil is perfectly healthy. Oil spills are 'natural', happening every single day in some area.

1st rule of Property usage rights..."Who was here first?". This is a legal and lawful business, or was for a century. You want us to shut down and leave? Fine...give us some sort of zoning change that makes this land valuable for something else...something at LEAST as profitable.

Gavin knows it is unconstitutional. He also knows you will be forced to pay millions in legal fees while it takes years to drag this case through the court system. He has CA's checkbook and you don't.

President Joe Biden's administration is urging Ukraine to quickly increase the size of its military by drafting more troops and revamping its mobilization laws to allow for the conscription of those as young as 18. A senior Biden administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private consultations, said Wednesday that the outgoing Democratic administration wants Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18 from the current age of 25 to expand the pool of fighting-age men available to help a badly outnumbered Ukraine in its nearly three-year-old war with Russia.

'You'd have every one of those Highland moms who came out for the migrants. And you do not want to mess with them.' According to a report in the Eurasia Times, this acquisition could put Vietnam in line to buy F-16 jets from the US, of which there have been reports since October last year. The Texan trainer is commonly used by the US Air Force to train pilots for advanced jets like the F-16. Vietnam has until now bought only Russian military hardware and its air force is known to deploy 35 SU-30 fighter jets and older Su-22s.

Donald Trump’s thumping re-election threatens to upend the business of an industry he’s sworn to protect: Big Oil. Should his incoming administration follow through on plans to once again pull the United States out of the landmark 2015 Paris climate agreement—as a way to loosen regulations on fossil fuel companies—it could actually end up hurting companies like Exxon Mobil, according to the oil giant’s CEO. California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a list of suggestions Nov. 26 for shoppers to avoid scams during the holiday season and requested consumers file reports about department stores that lack gender-neutral children’s sections. State law, established by the passage of Assembly Bill 1084 in 2021, which took effect at the beginning of 2024, requires department stores with at least 500 employees across California locations to offer children’s sections that do not separate items based on gender. “By requiring large retailers to maintain a gender-neutral section, AB 1084 makes it more difficult for these retailers to engage in gender-based pricing discrimination and reduces the imposition of gender stereotypes on children,”
