Noonan's Downfall

Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan during a recent conversation with journalist Bari Weiss made some startling revelations. Noonan calls herself a conservative and was once a speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan. But like most mainstream conservative commentators of that era, Noonan abandoned both her conservative and journalistic principles to devolve into a rabid hater of President Trump. She believed the hoaxes against President Trump, particularly the Trump-Russia collusion hoax. When she was proven wrong, instead of accepting her mistake, she claimed she didn’t “know what to thi

There is something you should know about writers. They are prideful. They write and if they are good writers, they rewrite many times untill the piece is perfect. Then they publish. It is really hard for them to go back to a piece they wrote and say, That was rubbish. But they must do it, or they stay married to the rubbish. Noonan is in a toxic long term relationship with rubbish. But her toxins poison only herself, not DJT. I don't respect her. Otoh my admiration of President Trump grows by her subtraction.

Once upon a time, I couldn't wait to read a Peggy Noonan opinion piece. She used words like a surgeon uses a scalpel. She could take a person down, but in the nicest way possible. Here TDS is why I stopped reading her. Full disclosure. I was not originally a Trump fan. What turned me was the media. Specifically, people like Noonan. I try to remain objective and intellectually honest and found myself defending Trump when he was attacked unfairly, or the accusations were false, and I knew for a fact what the truth was. It's an eye opening experience to know a subject thoroughly and watch or read the media either get the facts completely wrong, take statements out of context, make it up or just outright lie. All to either destroy or prop up a person. Noonan lost all credibility with me, just like most of the never-Trumpers. Sure, they might have their reasons not to like him. But please, don't make mountains out of every mole hill while glossing over his opponents "mountains

Her quotes are staggering. Staggering under the weight of her ego and self-regard that is. On a related Noonan note, when the Obama IRS scandal broke (and it WAS an Obama scandal for those who claim he had none) she wrote 'We can survive a corrupt agency. We cannot survive a corrupt government.' Well, Ms Noonan, you say you've been writing about Trump for 8 years (surely more than that?) and you have seen corruption in government from the Oval Office down to lowly doorshakers in the Capitol Police. And it isn't just financial corruption although the sitting president is surely history's biggest taker of bribes. Government is ideologically corrupt and that may be a great deal worse. They are political animals serving one party and subverting the law whenever and however they like to combat designated enemies starting with Trump.

Long ago, when she first worked for Ronald Reagan, I liked Peggy Noonan. Then the Challenger explosion happened and Peggy wrote Reagan's speech, a great speech. I admired her for it. Then various media noted that Peggy Noonan wrote that speech and wasn't she wonderful. She became a celebrity of sorts. It had never been a tradition to identify the writers of politicians' speeches, except after the politician left office, and I considered it unethical -- obviously she had been promoting herself. At that time I was writing fundraising direct mail letters for major conservative groups. Often my client would get some well-known person to sign one of my letters. Occasionally some of my copy was mentioned in the media and I thought of how narcissistic and wrong it would be if I then announced that I was the person who wrote it. So I've never felt anything but contempt for Peggy since then.

I do not consider Country Club Republicans as true Republicans nor do I consider Limousine Liberals true Democrats. Peggy Noonan and her ilk (on both sides) have just been trying to “steer” the parties in the direction they deem fit. We are fortunate that Trump came along and bucked the system. If Trump started speaking like a mealy mouth Bush, at this point, I would drop him and start looking for someone new who speaks to my truth. Reagan and Trump have come the closest for me and let’s remember that Reagan never had the Senate nor the House.

I read and owned her book "What I Saw at the Revolution" and liked it. I liked her WSJ article "There is no time; There Will Be Time". Prescient. But she lost all credibility in her summary (and stupid AND uninformed) dismissal of Sarah Palin. Sarah had accomplishments that demanded respect but got none from the Pegster. Since then, her articles were useful in the same way a weather vane pointing in the wrong direction is useful. You know what it's saying; go the opposite way. And, really, if i were her, I wouldn't have penned this article. In confirmed that she's a kool aid drinker. Big time.

Anyone who has followed Trump's struggles with the media and the corrupt government has to recognize the hatred and arrogance in the people that have falsely attacked him. They attack him because he brings very dangerous ideas to the political arena; great respect for America and her People. The people that attack him believe in their own superiority and vision of America; a vision in sharp contrast to the the reality of Constitutional Republic government and the reality of the actual lives of her people. The two visions are antithetical so for Trump's vision, the authentic one, to stand, the other vision must be undone. All the people in government and media that oppose the authentic version of America must be pushed out. Those people know this, are terrified of this, and will say and do ANYTHING to resist. The agencies that have attempted a "fundamental transformation of America" have cheated. There are mechanisms to make changes in the structure of American governance. They take great agreement among the People, over important issues like the end of slavery, to put in place. This can be hard work. The "transformers" have attempted to make illegal changes by subtle internal coups to shift power from the People and elected officials to unelected agencies and an unaccountable and rabid media. Trump started by pointing out media was lying which, as soon as you took an objective look, was arguably true. Given their egos, this drove the media nuts. They became careless in their attempts to get Trump and it became blatantly obvious how corrupt and untrustworthy they have become. The second step was simple in concept but VERY hard in execution. Trump endured. Trump, the warrior, continued to fight battles and won far more than he lost because he forced the Left to prove their case and they failed, over and over. This type of personal endurance in politics is almost unpredicted in modern times. The iconic culmination of this was when Trump, shot and bloodied, rose in defiance with his fist in the air and called US to FIGHT ALONGSIDE HIM! What are the pissants like Noonan and the media in the face of this kind of strength and courage and righteousness? And the media has to see this and innately recognize how it diminishes them. And that drives them even more crazy.

Soi disant "journalists" are like fish that exist only in a school of like-minded other fish. They all swim in the same direction, at the same speed and cannot exist outside the school. They come to believe that their school comprises the entire world and can no longer even conceive of existence outside the school. Soon, anyone or anything outside their school is perceived as a threat and the instinct is either to attack in a swarm or flee. Trump appeared to the swarm as a potential existential threat so they reacted as such fish alwys do. Even now, after an entire term in office during which Trump did NOTHING to impair--and much to improve--the rights of American citizens, they continue to perceive him as a threat. They are to be pitied, but never, ever allowed to dominate public discourse again.

I have never liked Peggy Noonan very much. She has always struck me as sanctimonious, snobbish and rather enamored with herself. It was no surprise that she was a Never Trumper. Trump doesn't deal in platitudes, like the ones Peggy writes. He also isn't the choice the inner circle of DC/Manhattan pundits who think what they say and think is important.

FTA - "Noonan's trepidation minutes before meeting Trump also revealed that spending prolonged periods in the echo chamber causes divorce from reality." Consequently, Noonan forgot her charge as a journalist. And became a victim of her own profession. It's the old, you hear the same things long enough and loud enough, pretty soon you start to believe it. I don't know Noonan's personality but guessing she may be more of a Type A individual. Such individuals tend to live in their own reality. I could be way off base. Just a guess on my part.

The Spin Doctors had an early 'Nineties hit with "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong," which is an appropriate song for Ms. Noonan. Ever since non-politician Trump's appearance on the political scene, Peggy and other erstwhile sensible commentators lost their way, lost their professionalism. They let their feelings get involved and became overcome. Like the dinosaurs of yore, they couldn't adjust. Now they have become part of the opposition because hating Trump is what makes them feel best. PDJT will rise while they must fall, reputations shot, their former readers looking at them askance, shaking their heads. " ... Little miss, little miss, little miss can't be wrong / Whatcha gon' do to get into another one of these here rock 'n' roll songs?" https://genius.com/Spin-doctors-little-miss-cant-be-wrong-lyrics

I have no problem suggesting that Donald Trump may have done more to advance "Country Class" (hat tip to Prof. Codevilla), Main Street conservatism and conservative policies than any of the "elites" that #26 accurately cites. I read them all for years and concluded that for the most part they were writing to each other for mutual approval, otherwise preaching to the choir, sponsoring cruises and (most of them) rubbing elbows at DC cocktail parties. When Trump came along and threatened their status as the smartest people in the room, they showed their true colors, nothing but contempt for those of us who abandoned them.

I wore body armor during my police career. In those days of yore, it was heavier and more expensive than armor is now, but armor threat protection levels really haven’t changed. The armor police officers wear on duty protects against handgun and shotgun cartridges, but absent ceramic or metal insert plates, not against rifle fire. That kind of tactical armor is thicker, heavier and much more expensive. However, in recent years, armor has become more affordable and ubiquitous. It’s available in several levels from level II, which will stop 9mm and .357 magnum rounds, to Level V, which will stop up to 30.06—true high-powered rifle—rounds.

Recently, writing in the Acton Institute’s Religion and Liberty Online, a Texas high-school teacher, Auguste Meyrat, brilliantly formulated the most precise description of education in post-COVID America: vegetative education. As he writes, “Teachers in past decades have been faced with two choices: educating students with challenging material and frequent grading or engaging them with fun projects and participation grades.” What is he talking about? What does modern classroom instruction look like these days? To put it mildly: A lot of it is not very good. We can abolish the federal Department of Education, offer lip service about bolstering parental rights and abolishing DEI policies.

A clear sign there is still hope for New York comes with the news that Bronx Congressman Ritchie Torres, a Democrat, is considering challenging either Mayor Adams next year or Gov. Hochul in 2026. The only pity is that he can’t challenge them both. Run, Ritchie, run! Torres often stands alone or is part of a small group of common-sense Dems in going against the party’s far-left agenda. He refused to join the radical “Squad” in Congress and distinguished himself as an articulate and forceful supporter of Israel. A gay Afro-Puerto Rican raised as a Catholic in Throggs Neck,

Trump, his family, and his businesses, and stipulate to vacate the Judgment and dismiss all claims with prejudice," Trump attorney D. John Sauer wrote in a letter exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital.

At a time when our enemies believe we are a nation at war with itself, angry with our neighbors, split by partisan divide, burdened by economic woes, and incapable of empathy, there comes a story this holiday season that reminds friend and foe alike who we are. In a Canton, Michigan, plans for the annual holiday performance of The Nutcracker suddenly went off the boards when all the necessary props for the Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company went missing. Thousands of dollars of pieces required to stage the tradition were stolen – from the Christmas tree to the golden backdrop that serves to highlight the ballet's characters.

If you want to know why big media outlets are struggling so badly, you only need to look at the coverage of this month’s presidential election. Not only were the media perceived by voters as favoring Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris, but they continued to show an erosion in Americans’ overall trust in them as sources of information, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. The November national online poll includes 1,436 adults, with a +/-2.6 percentage point margin of error. Each month, I&I/TIPP asks voters the following questions about the national media: “Generally speaking, how much trust do you have in the traditional or established news media,

Straphangers are no strangers to delays caused by trash fires, but the more insidious scourge is the MTA’s cash fires. The agency has wailed that it’s broke and needs the revenue from “congestion pricing” tolls just to keep the lights on. Baloney: While bad New York laws help explain why the MTA spends more on construction than any other major city, the agency itself keeps burning through taxpayer money on utter idiocy. The latest mind-boggling spend: $252.7 million on 3,000 “Help Point” intercoms in the name of boosting public safety. On Tuesday, the MTA’s inspector general’s office released a damning report on the devices, launched in 2018 across all 472 stations.

A top Democratic leader is pointing fingers at “MAGA” Republicans, accusing them of threatening Congressional Democrats on Thanksgiving— just one day after members of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks received bomb threats on their front doors. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) implicated that Trump supporters were hurling violent threats to Democrats with messages that included bomb threats and swatting— the practice of making prank phone calls to emergency services to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.

The Pow der River Basin, a region that spans parts of Montana and Wyoming, accounted for about 43% of U.S. coal in 2019, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Actor George Clooney was a key participant in the coup to push Joe Biden out of the 2024 election. Radar Online reports that Clooney is now said to have expressed outrage at “being manipulated by former President Barack Obama into lobbying for Kamala Harris.” Following Biden’s disastrous June debate performance, Clooney kicked off the calls to put old Joe out to pasture with a column for the New York Times demanding that he step aside. Bill Clinton already wrote and sold his memoir, the imaginatively named, My Life, written and published back in 2005, but like his wife, one memoir is never enough and so Bill has another one, Citizen, that chronicles all the exciting stuff he’s been up to for the last two decades. Hillary Clinton is on her fourth memoir (believe it or not) and Bill needs to pull his weight here. The trouble is that while Bill’s memoir 1.0 was at least justified because he was the president of the United States, he hasn’t done anything since then, unlike Hillary, who really didn’t do much, but at least is out there

Joe Biden's staffers have reportedly been 'triggered' by his inability to hold the tradition of the outgoing president taking 'departure photos' with White House employees. Biden was set to depart the White House in January no matter who won after he declined to seek a second term in July. Now, however, he'll be handing the presidency back to Trump after Kamala Harris was soundly beaten by Biden's predecessor. The staff, however, has apparently reached a new low in terms of morale, launching into unhappy groupchats about not getting their goodbye pictures.

Liberal women are sterilizing themselves in response to President-elect Donald Trump’s win earlier this month, according to a new report from Newsweek. The outlet spoke to five women who are so concerned about losing access to abortions that they are having their fallopian tubes removed over the election results. “If I am to be denied any rights in the next four (or more) years, I will not give them up without a fight,” 28-year-old Texas resident Lydia Echols told Newsweek. A 39-year-old from Washington, who asked to remain anonymous, told the outlet that she has already undergone a bilateral salpingectomy, removing her fallopian tubes, over Trump.

San Jose State volleyball player Blaire Fleming built a prosperous athletic resume en route to the epicenter of national controversy. Many of Fleming's past competitors had to settle for losses along the way. Fleming is the leader in kills for a San Jose State team that will compete in the Mountain West tournament final Saturday against Colorado State. The athlete's spiking ability has been a competitive asset and a point of outrage by critics, including President-elect Trump, amid the controversy over Fleming competing against women as a transgender athlete. Morgan is now claiming that he never wanted Harris to be the 2024 Democratic nominee. He also suggests that no matter what she says about future runs for office, she is finished. He recently appeared on FOX News to discuss this. Transcript via Real Clear Politics: "She can never run for president again. She ran once and got zero delegates. She got 8% of California. WASHINGTON — Democrats spent Thanksgiving eating crow — privately confessing that President Biden’s handling of the border crisis fueled voter outrage and the Republican sweep of the White House and both chambers of Congress. Lawmakers, aides and sources close to powerful Dems finally admitted after President-elect Donald Trump’s resounding victory over Biden’s successor, Vice President Kamala Harris, that the party’s permissive lurch on the border helped doom them in 2024. (Photo) “We destroyed ourselves on the immigration issue in ways that were entirely predictable and entirely manageable,” a Democratic senator confided to The Hill under the condition of anonymity. “We utterly mismanaged that issue, including our Democratic caucus here.

It is tradition in the Biden White House that staffers, once they decide to leave the administration, get a photo with the president as a thank you for their contribution, Politico Playbook reported. But as the president has cancelled the photos for the last few months, staffers are now concerned they might not get the coveted shot despite recent changes, according to the outlet.
