What the Heck Happened in the Trump-Harris Debate?

Original Article

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump finally faced off in what will likely be their only debate, and it went more or less as expected. While this debate probably won’t change the overall trajectory of the race in a major way, it did have its key moments—and not all of them went in Trump’s favor. I predicted Trump needed to perform significantly better than he did against Joe Biden, and frankly, that didn’t happen. Let’s start with the obvious: Kamala came in prepared, and Trump, as usual, took the bait more than once. Sure, he got in some good lines and managed to score points

Trump clearly lost this debate but not without a lot of help from ABC moderators who clearly had a mission. I was hoping he wouldn’t take the bait. But he did. How it effects the election is yet to be seen. He made some very good points. And the ABC bias was beyond blatant. That won’t play well. I don’t think it will move the needle much for her but we shall see.

Trump could have done better. If you didn't like Trump or Kamala going into the debate, you didn't like them going out. Nothing changed. Kamala lied about Project 2025 and a national abortion ban right from the start while accusing Trump of lying.

Nice to see Margolis come back to reality, after weeks of exuberant headlines implying that Trump cleaning her clock in November is a forgone conclusion. As for Trump, he should have known that getting combative would be blood in the water for the 2 sharks that were moderating. And they came after him in a frenzy.

taylor swift posted on insta that she is endorsing kamala. I don’t understand why she did that right after the debate. It seems like they’d want to celebrate the debate because she did hold her own. That endorsement now takes focus away from that. Unless kammie doesn’t think she did very well.

I don't think it was Trump's best night, but she looked awful. Wouldn't call it a win for her. She looked angry, pursing her lips, sucking in air, and staring at him with disdain. She also kept looking at the clock when Trump was speaking. Moderator Lindsey also glared at Trump throughout. ABC should be ashamed of itself. If they can't even pretend to be unbiased, they should hang it up. Rick Grinell said that the bias on display was a gift to the American people; all watching the debate could see the bias. Our job is to pound that through November.

It was not a good debate for Trump. I thought if he came across as optimistic and cheerful about another Trump term he would have won over most of the wobbly undecideds. He could have dismissed her lies in broad strokes. He too often tried to jam 2-3 different topics into one exchange and took the bait (once again) about the size and value of his rallies.

I don't think Trump lost the debate; she, for certain, didn't win. I also don't think the shooting affected Trump; it was more people telling him to be something besides himself. It felt like he was trying to be more of a politician than Trump. I like Trump when he's Trump. Trump knows how to go in on an opponent, no matter who it is. His jabs are the best; he says what millions are thinking. When he said her policy read like "Run Spot Run" I thought I would die! it was hilariously true. We got some vintage Trump but not enough. I hope he is wise enough to go back to being Trump and stop listening to people who tell him not to take the bait or get triggered. He's at his best when he's triggered. He had all y'all in his head. When he's triggered, he baits them. They are the ones who have a cow when he goes in; they always look stupid when they trip over the things he says.

The number of people who are convinced Trump should be #47 are by now fixed. I think they will be a majority of the legal votes cast. That fact didn't change last night. Did Trump go beyond reach of possible ballot fraud. I don't think so.

The debate was amazingly lacking in content. The Lady Chihuahua and I turned it off after 30 minutes. The candidates were discussing abortions and Haitians eating animals. Excuse me? The last thing the left wants to talk about is anything meaningful and anything that makes them look bad. The transcript for the debate could be summed up as follows: Harris yells, "He's lying!". Trump yells, "She's lying!". Over and over again, ad nauseum. The debate was a complete waste of time. Doubt it changed anyone's opinion. Which is probably what both sides wanted all along. The left's strategy is to either have enough support to outright win the election or to get them within striking distance and let voter fraud take care of the rest. Trump's strategy is to get enough support to win the election outright.

The view numbers for the first presidential debate were released on Wednesday, showing a significant rise from the June debate between Trump and Biden. The Nielsen figures show that 58 million people tuned in for the debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, roughly 6.5 million more than who watched the debate between Biden and Trump, which likely led to the former’s decision to drop from the race. According to Axios, the viewership numbers for Tuesday may rise about 60 million “once Nielsen finishes a more comprehensive tally.”

Vice President Kamala Harris came out of her debate with former President Donald Trump armed with confidence she could win the White House with an aspirational message light on specifics. In the weeks since she has become the Democratic Party’s nominee, Ms. Harris has talked about joy, vision, and values, but has been bereft of policy ideas. Instead, she has called for a broad range of standard proposals embraced by mainstream Democrats. She only added policies to her website this week, more than 50 days since President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her. Ms. Harris’ policy page is vague and dedicates nearly as much space

Very few debates have as crystal-clear a loser as the Trump–Biden debate in June. This wasn’t one of them. The moderators were bad and biased in Harris’s favor, and I suppose you could deploy the old saw that the side complaining about the moderators is who lost, but that’s just standard by now. Given my metric from this morning — that the winner is whichever candidate the debate isn’t about — this was probably a narrow win for Kamala Harris. She escaped a detailed examination of her record or a detailed elaboration of her plans. She didn’t pratfall trying to explain herself. But then,

The media is all in this morning declaring Kamala Harris the winner of Tuesday night's presidential debate, as we predicted they would. Former President Donald Trump had to deal not only with Harris but bad moderators with questions that seemed designed to help her while not fact-checking her on any of the lies that she told throughout the night. There were areas he could have hit more, but he also was having to deal with all the hoaxes, and the moderators didn't call her out for anything. That's disgraceful. Megyn Kelly and many others on the right called out the bias. Even Democratic strategist Doug Schoen criticized the bias.

The ABC debate went as I predicted it would — that whatever Kamala Harris did, the media would declare her the winner. And they're already on it this morning. Yet, Harris lied her head off the entire night, didn't answer the questions, and the moderators didn't fact-check her on her lies, not even her "fine people" lie, which, at this point, everyone on earth knows that's a lie except Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Well, they know, but they keep saying it. The ABC moderators were awful, clearly providing her cover, fact-checking former President Donald Trump but not fact-checking Harris.

President Trump came out the clear winner in the presidential debate, presenting the case for his re-election, laying out the Harris-Biden failures, and confidently going on Fox News to comment on his performance afterwards, as the Kamala Harris camp threw out the possibility of a second debate, in October. Candidates who are losing are the ones who like do-overs. The moderators -- ABC's David Muir, and Linsey whatshername stunk, with unusual bias seen in both, fact-checking Trump while giving Kamala a pass on obvious and tired whoppers, pushing the abortion-as-health-care narrative, they were vile, and shouldn't be allowed to ever moderate again.

Donald Trump got to Kamala Harris’ core problem in his debate close, waving off all her promises about what she’d do in office: “Why hasn’t she done it already?” Hard to think of a better riposte to her “We won’t go back” slogan — which aims to appeal to Americans’ desperate desire for change from the Biden policies she shares. Harris had a pretty smooth night: She did her homework for once, including prepping lines guaranteed to get under Trump’s skin — some of which plainly did put him off-balance. And of course she had backup from the moderators, ABC’s David Muir and Linsey Davis —
