That revelation came in a report on Saturday and was framed as the administration offering that information now if the ongoing operation in Rafah is canceled. The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday advanced a measure to hold in contempt Attorney General Merrick Garland in an 18-15 party line vote, a step Republicans on the House Oversight panel are also expected to take later this evening.
A last-minute move from President Biden to claim executive privilege over audio recordings from his interview with special counsel Robert Hur did not dissuade the GOP from proceeding, even as Garland said those asserting the privilege “cannot be prosecuted for criminal contempt of Congress.”
The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the funding structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is legal.
The court rejected an argument that the CFPB's funding method violated the U.S. Constitution's Appropriations Clause because Congress had not annually authorized money for the agency. Instead, Congress authorized the CFPB to draw funding from the Federal Reserve system that the agency's director deems necessary for its work. The 7-2 ruling, whose majority opinion was written by Justice Clarence Thomas, a conservative, reversed a decision by the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
Three other conservatives, and the court's three liberal justices, joined in the majority opinion.

Republican lawmakers had previously subpoenaed the audio recordings of Biden’s interviews, along with his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer and other items from Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified information. The House Oversight and Judiciary committees are scheduled to begin the process of holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with those subpoenas on Thursday.

Teachers in English schools will not be allowed to teach children that they can change their gender identity, according to reports.
Age limits are also set to be imposed for the first time on when children can be taught sex education.
The Times reports that education ministers will warn schools in England today that gender identity is "highly contested" and that teaching the issue could have "damaging implications".
If asked, school staff should teach the "biological facts" about sex, the government will say, The Times adds.

Bratislava, Slovakia — Slovakia's populist Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot Wednesday and left in a life-threatening condition, according to his Facebook page and the Slovak government. The shooting took place in the town of Handlova, about 90 miles northeast of the capital Bratislava, as Fico emerged from a government meeting.
Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár called it an assassination attempt in a social media post. One suspect was detained at the scene as Fico was transported first by car, and then by helicopter to a regional hospital as it was deemed to urgent to move him on the ground.

Having served on three Manhattan juries, I would not be surprised if the 12 men and women hearing New York vs. Donald J. Trump acquitted him of all charges.
During two civil actions and one criminal case, my fellow jurors were serious, professional and movingly civic-minded. A quiet, solemn patriotism infused our deliberations. Several jurors said that we should respect the justice system because, someday, we might need it to respect us. (snip) These three cases confirm that Manhattan juries are sober and perfectly capable of fairness.
