Catholic Medical Center to lay off 54
workers, citing ‘financial stress’

Catholic Medical Center in Manchester will lay off 54 employees as a response to financial difficulties, hospital leaders said. (Snip) Walker said rising costs, lower reimbursement for services, shifting demographics and changes in the payor mix — the share of patient revenue that comes from Medicare and Medicaid vs. privately insured and self-paying patients — had all contributed to the hospital’s “financial stress.”

Comments:

A recent ER visit with a provider charge of $1100+ was paid $78 by Medicare. No wonder hospitals are in poor financial shape.

A doctor told me that if Medicaid patients were charged $1 for an ER visit, costs would drop significantly. She said illegals bring a child with a cold to the ER. The next day, they bring in another child with a cold.

Catholic Medical Center can thank Catholic Charities for those “shifting demographics.” Catholic Charities is one of the main drivers of unfettered immigration, and the government pays them very well for it.

I remember once when I was in medical sales and visiting the "county hospital." The ER entrance was across from my customer's department and we were chatting in the area between the two departments. The ER crew was filming some patient instructional/healthy living videos. We asked why that was happening and they said they found out that minor visits, especially on weekends during football season, dropped if they ran these spots instead of running the cable (football games).

NH finally getting the illegals bankrupting their hospitals. We’ve experienced it in Texas since the 80s. Our county hospital taxes are higher than our town taxes, free care for illegals, and Texas attempts to get Feds to pay costs were shut down by Federal Courts….. Catholic Charities has been complicit all along….Dallas Diocese has been making millions and millions….

A low-profile case decided Wednesday by the Supreme Court could have big implications for employers’ diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Muldrow v. A California judge has recommended disbarring attorney John Eastman, determining that he violated ethics rules by pushing former President Donald Trump's election fraud claims. Eastman had supported Trump's claims that mass voter fraud affected the outcome of the presidential election. He further was the architect of the alternate elector scheme in which then-Vice President Mike Pence was to reject the electors from pivotal swing states in favor of pro-Trump slates. Judge Yvette Roland determined that he violated ethics rules in pushing the effort, Politico reported. He may still appeal the decision to the California Supreme Court, though his law license will be inactive during the appeals process.

President Joe Biden has competition for his ‘meaningless’ write-in campaign. Former Executive Councilor Andru Volinsky is asking his fellow Granite State Democrats to skip writing Biden’s name on their ballots and instead take part in his anti-Israel write-in campaign called “Ceasefire.” Announced Wednesday with a Zoom press conference, Ceasefire is Volinsky’s campaign pushing New Hampshire voters to write in the word “Ceasefire” on their ballots in Tuesday’s Democratic presidential primary. The plan, which may cause headaches for town clerks and election moderators across the state, is meant to protest Biden’s support for Israel in the war with Hamas.

A federal judge has declared that a law banning Americans from possessing guns in postal offices is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle in Florida ruled Friday that a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling from 2022 made the postal office gun ban illegal. As part of the decision, she dismissed part of an indictment charging postal worker Emmanuel Ayala with illegally possessing a gun in a federal building. She said the criminal charge violated Ayala’s 2nd Amendment rights. “The Supreme Court has been clear: the government must point to historical principles that would permit it to prohibit firearms possession in post offices,”

The bill passed in a 199-175 vote, according to The Hill. It next heads to the Republican-controlled Senate. The lower chamber also approved a measure requiring that athletes compete on teams in line with their sex. Twenty-two states have enacted bans on transgender surgeries for minors, according to the pro-LGBT Movement Advancement Project. Twenty-one of those have also banned lesser medical treatments.

A new study out of UCLA says same-sex couples are at greater “risk of exposure to the adverse effects of climate change” than straight couples. These effects include “wildfires, floods, smoke-filled skies, and drought,” according to a report from KQED. Same-sex couples disproportionately live in coastal regions and cities, which are more vulnerable to such disasters. They’re also more likely “to live in areas with poor infrastructure, worse-built environments.” Washington DC, which rates high for “climate risks” such as heat waves, floods, and “dangerously strong winds,” has the greatest proportion of gay couples in the U.S. San Francisco ranks second, and also faces a high climate change risk.

The Sound of Music was an iconic movie for my generation. We watched it at movie theaters when made its yearly appearance, then eventually on television. If you missed it, you had to wait a year until it was rebroadcast as there was no video on demand as there is today. It was a fun movie, featuring sing-a-long music, romance, mischief, and a realistic view of jackbooted Nazis destroying a beautiful country. There was no same sex marriage, no transgenders, no mention of global warming, diversity, wokeness, or any other message permeating current movies and television shows.
