If October 7 changed the way Israel sees Hamas, the Iranian attack over the weekend may have changed the way Hamas sees its leverage now. Their latest proposal for a cease-fire certainly implies it, coming just hours after the massive aerial attack. Hamas has not just rejected the US-drafted proposal for a 10:1 swap ratio but now refuse to swap at all until Israel withdraws from Gaza cities entirely. AUSTIN - Authorities arrested 79 people during the second police crackdown on pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the University of Texas at Austin since last week, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
The protesters were arrested Monday during a campus demonstration and booked into the Travis County Jail, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said Tuesday. Seventy-eight of the people arrested are charged with criminal trespassing. One of them has an additional charge of obstructing a highway or passageway, while another person has been charged with interfering with public duties.
None of those arrested had been booked before a judge as of Tuesday morning.

Columbia University is threatening to expel student protesters against Israel’s handling of the war in Gaza who took over a campus building on Tuesday.
“Students occupying the building face expulsion,” said Columbia spokesperson Ben Chang, The Associated Press reported.
“Protesters have chosen to escalate to an untenable situation — vandalizing property, breaking doors and windows, and blockading entrances — and we are following through with the consequences we outlined yesterday,” Chang added.
Chang is referring to the school’s Monday promise to suspend people who did not clear the encampment and sign a document promising to obey the university’s policies around protesting.

A New York judge ruled Tuesday morning former president Donald Trump repeatedly violated the expansive gag order imposed in his hush-money criminal trial.
Judge Juan Merchan held Trump in contempt for nine violations of the gag order and imposed a $1,000 fine on Trump for each of the violations. Merchan warned Trump he will face jail time if he continues to violate the gag order.
“Defendant is hereby warned that the Court will not tolerate continued willful violations of its lawful orders and that if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances, it will impose an incarceratory punishment,” Merchan said.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Florida is taking a firm stance on campus protesters amid ongoing demonstrations at schools across the country in support of the Palestinians in the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Campus police and the Florida Highway Patrol reported the arrest of nine individuals on Monday for failing to adhere to protest regulations.
UF, like many other colleges and universities, has been grappling with protests by students and faculty. However, recent measures have been implemented, with the campus administration announcing new rules and warnings that violators would be treated as trespassers.

Three officers with a U.S. Marshals task force were fatally shot while serving a warrant Monday in Charlotte, North Carolina, officials said.
One marshal and two local officers working with the fugitive task force were killed. One additional task force member and four officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were also shot, officials said. One of the wounded officers was in critical condition, officials said at a news briefing Monday afternoon. In total, eight law enforcement officers were shot.
They said a suspect was also dead.
A fugitive task force was serving a warrant on a suspect in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon when the violence began.

Columbia University gave protesters an ultimatum of Monday at 2:00 p.m. to gather their belongings and “leave the encampment,” according to photos of a paper from the university posted to the Instagram account of Aidan Parisi, a suspended student of the university.
