Four Florida teenagers have been killed after they were involved in a police chase in which officers used a maneuver designed to get a car to stop, but caused them to spin out of control. The four, who were between the ages of 14 and 16, attended Newberry High School in Bradford County, northeast of Gainesville. Two of the teens in the car died at the Waldo area scene, while the other two passed away from their injuries days later at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Cops will get nailed for this and pretty soon we'll just have to rely on criminals turning themselves in - because police bad.

FTA: two of the teens that were killed in SUV were wearing ankle monitors, while three had active warrants, reports WLBT. Some of the occupants also appeared to be wearing ski masks.
Were they starting college tomorrow, like Michael Brown of Ferguson MO?

Sorry guys, I disagree. These kids might not have been driving at 111 were it not for being chased and maybe no one would have died were it not for the PIT maneuver. Radio ahead. Catch them later. The two wearing ankle monitors could have been tracked wherever. Equip cops with drones and follow from 1000 feet up. Yes, the kids were black and I'd take odds that fathers were missing from their homes. Some communities have banned chases except in very specific circumstances and this wasn't one of those.

Ski masks? Ankle monitors? Odds are......they weren't out ringing doorbells, and running off.
Why not just stop when the cops light you up?

FTA: 'Lawrence [McClendon] was a great kid to be around and have in our program,' said Ed Johnson, Newberry's head football coach. As a football player he was competitive, talented and relentless with a knack for making big plays.
Lawrence and his three friends were serious criminals before they reached their mid-teens. Where were their parents? What type of crime does one have to do commit to have warrants and ankle monitors at age fourteen to sixteen? These four young hoodlums were halfway to state prison already. Lawrence and his car thief / joyriding fellow gangstas made a big play here, one for the record books, a rrrreally big shew, as Ed Sullivan used to say. It was a touchdown of sorts. That pole didn't give an inch. It's a shame that the owner of the stolen Honda is left with a totaled car. What a senseless waste of a fine vehicle.

4 criminals dead. But they were Good boys, who just thought ankle bracelets were a fine piece of jewelry.
Only God knows how many future crimes were prevented in this case or how many past crimes were punished.
I have watched a lot of Utubes with police chases and some of them are pretty crazy ,and some of them just for a traffic violation. However this was a criminal gang being chased. Most had records of criminal offenses., and certainly they would create more criminal acts if they lived. I have no empathy for them. If the youth who played football had a criminal record why was he allowed on the football team.?

Youtube has dozens if not hundreds, of dash cam videos of LEOs chasing people at high speeds because they ran.
When it finally ends, and almost never well, the driver and passengers were running for stupid reasons: drugs, warrants, no license, shoplifting, other crimes... It take s a special kind of stupid to run from the cops, but it's widespread in some parts of society.
Anyone want to bet those kids will be memorialized on the school walls?

They were not long for this earth. Stolen vehicle. Warrants, ankle bracelets. 14 - 16 God only knows what they had done previously and what they had planned. Luckily they did not hit another car or ram into a home or store. I am sorry this happened. I am sorry these kids did not have parents and guidance. I am sorry that living like a feral animal was acceptable behavior. How do you grow into a predator so quickly?

A PIT maneuver at a very high rate of speed (say, 100 to 130 mph) can send both cars out of control. The cop has to know what he's doing to PIT at great speed, or he might kill himself. Obviously, it's crazy to try to run from police at 100+mph. The greatest danger is that the fleeing felon might crash and involve anyone else on the road in that crash. Over the last several years I've watched literally dozens of videos of fleeing felons, who can kill you or me when they go out of control. Idiot criminals driving at 100+ are an immediate danger to the driving public. If police have to crash them to stop them, too bad.

Re #22: There are numerous videos of PIT maneuvers being done at speeds of between 100 and 130. Not many police are "rated" (if that's the proper word) to perform PIT maneuvers at great speed. One you may have heard of is Arkansas Highway patrolman Jacob Byrd aka the Byrdman. He's a legend. Here's an hour and three minutes of action. The Byrdman cometh!

I doubt any civil lawsuit would succeed under Florida law.
But, even if it did, the taxpayers would end up way ahead when inevitable incarceration costs, welfare, and food stamps to support their eventual baby mommas are tallied up.

Here the PIT of a Honda Civic at exactly 127 mph, sending the Civic tumbling down the interstate highway. Amazingly, the driver survived this crash, probably because at the factory Honda screwed together a solid car. It's junk now.

This could have easily been a story about a family of four killed due to a high speed chase. I realize small towns have no access to a chopper watching where they go, but if there were ankle monitors involved they could just apprehend them that way. Not sure if the police were following them due to the ankle monitor tracking, or unaware of that potential tool.

At 111 mph, they were on a collision course with someone else innocently going about their business and Not speeding. While I do feel sorry for the family members who lost someone, at least an innocent family wasn't harmed.

The police did the right thing in this. Every driver on that road hs the right to be safe while driving. They are obeying the laws of the road, and more then likely are not criminals. The "teens" in the car were in a big hurry to get away from the police. In their haste, they were endangering every other person on the road. Those "teens" could have smashed into numerous cars killing a lot of INNOCENT people. They should have stopped. better yet, they should not be breaking the law. #18 is right on.
But you know these cops are going to be railroaded for doing their job.

#18 nails why this stop was necessary.
These dangerous criminals were a very serious threat to anyone else on the highway. What if the cops had backed off and these thugs had lost control at 110 mph and killed a bunch of kids on a school bus or a family with children?
Good riddance.

I am ecstatic that these subhuman black orcs were killed. The world is slightly better every time one of these black thugs departs. Oh, how I wish that they could be revived so that the police could kill them again. Very satisfying deaths. Not even a scintilla of sympathy from this cracker-ass honkie.

FTA: "Police patrol vehicles were unable to keep up with the car because a device in their car prevents them from accelerating too fast." :-( So, highway patrol had to take over.
Just wondering, if metro police didn't have their hands (aka cars) tied, maybe they could have caught up to them sooner and prevented this final outcome.....

Another "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario for the cops.
If they don't chase the car, they aren't doing their jobs and should be fired.
If they chase the car, the wreck is their fault, and they should be imprisoned.
Why would anyone want to be a cop.
