79 arrested amid second crackdown on UT-Austin campus

AUSTIN - Authorities arrested 79 people during the second police crackdown on pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the University of Texas at Austin since last week, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. The protesters were arrested Monday during a campus demonstration and booked into the Travis County Jail, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said Tuesday. Seventy-eight of the people arrested are charged with criminal trespassing. One of them has an additional charge of obstructing a highway or passageway, while another person has been charged with interfering with public duties. None of those arrested had been booked before a judge as of Tuesday morning. The arrests came after protesters started an encampment

Tehran University Professor Foad Izadi likes what he sees happening on American college campuses.
Izadi said in an interview on Iranian state television station IRIB Ofogh that "these are our people." He said that he is a part of Iran's brutal Islamic dictatorship and they are cheering on the protests all across America.
He boasted that Iran has Hezbollah-like militant cells hiding in the United States. He took credit for Iran keeping "the Palestinian idea" alive. Izadi said that the movement would have closed down if not for the support of the Iranian regime.

The Israeli Air Force will mothball its Patriot air defense systems within two months as it moves to replace them with its own more advanced air defense equipment, the country's defense ministry announced on April 30.
According to media reports, Israel is thought to have eight U.S.-produced Patriot systems that currently work alongside its own air defenses, most famously the Iron Dome, a short-range interceptor designed to shoot down rockets, mortars, and drones.
It also deploys the David's Sling system, designed to shoot down medium-range projectiles, and the Arrow, a long-range system designed to intercept ballistic missiles.

They also tore down tents in the area, which was littered with broken pieces of wood and damaged furniture. Some of the activists fought back, spraying officers with fire extinguishers while refusing to leave the UCLA grounds -- even after police had spent hours ordering them to disperse over a loudspeaker.

It's not exactly the Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima, but it was damned satisfying to watch.
Pro-Palestinian protesters at the City College of New York had removed the American flag from the flagpole at the start of their protests two weeks ago and raised the Palestinian flag. After the NYPD swarmed the CUNY campus and began arresting dozens of protesters, several cops began to take down the Palestinian flag.
They were none too gentle about it either.
Then, NYPD Deputy Commissioner, Operations Kaz Daughtry and several other officers raised the American flag.
Ex-NPR senior editor Uri Berliner appeared again on Chris Cuomo's NewsNation show on Tuesday night. “I think that really, NPR has a lot of soul searching to do about representing the country at large. Being a publicly funded news organization and really trying to represent this country in all its great diversity and viewpoints.”

Protests against Israel's war against Hamas have spread like wildfire over the past few days, with major demonstrations taking place at some of the country's top universities, including Columbia and University College of Los Angeles (UCLA).

United Methodists repealed their church’s ban on LGBTQ clergy in a landslide 692 votes for and 51 votes against at their General Conference Wednesday with no debate, The Associated Press (AP) reported.
The repeal removed the church’s rule that expressly forbade “self-avowed practicing homosexuals” from becoming ordained or appointed as ministers, The AP reported. The vote also reportedly repealed a ban on same-sex marriages, allowing clergymen to perform LGBTQ wedding ceremonies without repercussions.
