Kansas Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly has vetoed legislation that would have banned gender-affirming care treatment for minors.
“This divisive legislation targets a small group of Kansans by placing government mandates on them and dictating to parents how to best raise and care for their children,” Kelly said in a statement Friday, announcing her veto. “I do not believe that is a conservative value, and it’s certainly not a Kansas value.”
She added that the bill goes against parental rights and that the government should not be in "between a parent and a child who needed medical care of any kind.”

The woman tasked with running the homeownership program for a Detroit nonprofit and helping people avoid losing their homes to foreclosure was named in a federal complaint for her role in stealing dozens of properties.
Zina Thomas, 60, of Detroit, was charged in a fraud scheme by the U.S. Attorney's Office, a release from the department said Wednesday. Prior to her arrest, she served as director of Homeownership Programs for the United Community Housing Coalition in Detroit.
The nonprofit provides housing assistance to the city's low-income residents. Thomas used her position as director to coordinate with other individuals to steal 30 properties across Wayne County.

The study’s authors say they found climate change harms economic productivity and food production, leading to higher prices. They examined more than 27,000 monthly consumer price index data points around the globe.
I can’t begin to describe all the ways this claim is not just outright false but is misleading in a manner clearly intended to motivate restrictions on fossil fuel production and use, policies which would in fact increase energy prices, harm food production, and result in lost jobs, higher prices, and lower incomes.

Berkeley law dean Erwin Chemerinsky has never been a favorite of mine, but I love irony, and this week he’s my avatar of people whose actions have come back to bite them. He has publicly bragged, for example, how much easier it is to avoid anti-discrimination laws in his faculty hires than it is in student admission, tacitly admitting that is what he has done and what he encourages others to do.
