A jury found Wayne LaPierre and the National Rifle Association liable in a New York state civil corruption trial Friday, ruling that LaPierre misappropriated millions of dollars when he was NRA chief executive officer to finance a lavish lifestyle while the gun-rights organization neglected proper financial management.
After five days of deliberations, the jury held that LaPierre cost the NRA $5.4 million, even accounting for the $1 million he had previously repaid. The trial in the lawsuit brought by New York attorney general Letitia James in 2020 came after a three-year investigation into the NRA, which is registered as a nonprofit organization in New York.

More NY Banana State crooked trial results.

Most of the contributions to Black Lives Matter reportedly ended up in the pockets or real estate portfolios of its "trained Marxist" officials. If Ms. James was actually interested in rooting out fraud in non-profits BLM would seem to be low-hanging prosecutorial fruit..

Justified.
For many years watched as the commie bustards eroded my precious 2nd Amendment while Wayne & Co. dined and danced away the years in D.C. with Boehner and Ryan and the rest of the crooked circus.
Not once did the NRA come in and contribute an amicus brief to multiple local court cases or even an endorsement of local candidates.
Useless,money grubbing grifters.
Thats the NRA with Wayne in charge...

I left the NRA in 1999, first joining in 1959 at the age of 13. I got so disturbed by La Pierre asking for money every week sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. You had to know he wasn't much more than a crook. Damn his useless soul to Hell!

There would be no 2nd amendment rights without the NRA. This is another witch hunt by a corrupt NY judicial system. If you are conservative, get the hell out of NY! Go South young man, go South!

Life member here. Watched Mr. LaPierre on every leftist anti 2A program for 40 years. He stood his, our ground and won the day. Never ever heard of any other 2A group that took the arrows, lies and outright life threats like this guy did. The politicians he had to work with are the ones we the people sent to D.C. I've watched some of the board members attack the guy but never saw or heard them fight the real enemy. Most didn't want to get in the mud or get their panties soiled.

Registered in New York? How stupid is that? No more donations to those bozos. Then again, five million is only one check to Hunter.

What OTHER Civil Rights organization has she ever investigated and prosecuted?
after decades of memberships by every family member we finally quit last year..too many fund raising ploys, many of them "Your membership is about to expire" notices, I just pitched them, but my 90yo Dad sent a check each time, even though they were only weeks or months apart, and his dues were fully paid already. Several emails every day...BUT...that was/is a personal decision.
Govt Shutdowns of a Major Historic Civil Rights Organization..because of a small percentage of overall contributions being badly used for personnel/and personal, when numerous NYC Congress-critters(including AOC) have spent as much, or nearly as much on themselves from a MUCH smaller donation pool is political targeting/persecution.
I partially blame WP/NRA for bringing it on themselves by not MOVING OUT of such a blatantly anti 1st/2nd Amendment area and into a more welcoming enviro. Ya don't insist on fighting from neck deep in a swamp, against overwhelming surrounding forces when there is High Ground and friendly populace nearby..reposition there and snipe from a distance..

Life member here too. While I immediately distrust any action brought by the Peoples Republic of New York, I also am very unhappy with the NRA and what it has become. They have not done much for my 2A rights lately, and truthfully, they seem to be a vehicle for people to live a very wealthy lifestyle at the expense of people barely making a living.
I dont get their begging letters anymore because I dont send money anymore. I assume they still ring the bell in NRA headquarters every afternoon and go upstairs for cocktail hour at my expense, drinking better booze than I will ever get to taste.

FYI...there's an alternative to the NRA. Check out https://www.gunowners.org/.
From the Department of Just Sayin'.
I like the good stuff the NRA has done but you MUST be smart when the Left is looking for ANY chink in the conservative armor. Make them fabricate stuff; don't give them material.

For years, the NRA was the ONLY organization fighting for our rights. Wayne LaPierre was in the trenches every day. If it wasn't for the NRA, we wouldn't have concealed carry in most states. If it wasn't for the NRA, the Firearm Owners Protection Act wouldn't have passed in a Democrat senate in 1984. This lawsuit is as bogus as the one Letitia James brought against Trump. As for being incorporated in New York - the NRA has been there since 1871. It wasn't a problem until Cuomo and Letitia James. They both vowed to "destroy" the NRA.
Yes, they ask for money about 12 times a year. They only expect you to respond once or twice. So send them twenty bucks. You'd spend that much for a box of 9mm's.
If you want to carp about the NRA, then stop being a member. Leave. And the next time some left-wing nutcase tries to take your guns, call a Democrat.

I think a private investigator needs to check out every nook and cranny of Leticia James, the same as was rightly done to Fani Willis. There has to be some more crookedness than meets the eye with that witch too.

As soon as I saw the words "New York, jury, liable" I knew the outcome was not going to be good. Didn't even have to know it was old nasty Letitia doing the dirty work. A word to the conservative businesses in New York. Get out! There's a target on you and soon you will be on trial.

More lawfare robbery by crooked Nerw York. The problem here is that NRA's headquarters are in New York, which is no longer a suitable place for an organization devoted to the basic human right of armed self defense. The NRA helps preserve the defender's civil rights. Some of my friends who don't even own firearms are nonetheless members of the NRA because their work is noble.

Actually, #4, while LaPierre was definitely spending a lot on himself and crooked friends, I was heavily and very directly involved in the top planning, lobbying and leadership of the concealed carry law passing in Kansas, over a 12 year period.
The NRA provided us with a small amount of funding to assist us when we were just starting. Not much, but also some training on lobbying ans seminars to get out volunteers. When things got to the critical point, the NRA funded a full time lobbyist in Kansas, fully paid, working directly with us. He was incredibly helpful to those of us who were amateurs working for years on this mission because he was a pro, experienced and FULL TIME on the job in the Legislature. He was there every day, and reported to me or others in the leadership group a couple of times a week by phone. We were able to make key meetings, and talk to key legislators at critical times because of what he found out. He was able to talk to and persuade critical legislators, when most of us could only be in Topeka a couple times a week, or less, due to working for a living. I took a lot of vacation that year, but that NRA funded lobbyist was extremely helpful. Many times he made meetings that we just couldn't attend, and presented our views persuasively and effectively.
Yes, LaPierre is a crook, I've known this since the 1990s and he DID have the NRA lay low a few times on some of the politically "less popular" fights, but, in general, the NRA was powerful, effective and a major factor in us keeping winning the gun rights battle.
You are uninformed and misinformed about the NRA's efforts for gun rights, from my direct, personal experience. Now that was in the early 2000s time frame, and after that we mostly relaxed since we had won about five major gun rights victories in Kansas (new pro gun laws) and there was little left to "fix" in our state. Constitutional carry came kind of by itself a few years later, not huge push needed, the anti-gun folks were in collapse, and just the pro-gun folks in the Legislature that we had supported and the obvious lack of any problems after many years of shall issue CCW was enough to carry the day. Even today, antigun sentiment gets no traction in Kansas at all.
Is and was LaPierre stealing? YES. But he was pretty darned effective at the same time, too. He could have had more money to be more effective if he wasn't stuffing so much into his own and his buddies' pockets, though.

Addendum to #24. I was talking to the NRA lobbyist and thanking him two days after our victory in shall issue CCW passing in Kansas. He was saying his goodbyes as he was fired and moving to Georgia to work a totally different law there for another lobbying firm. I was surprised, and said so, he said "This is how it works. Job done, job is over. On to the next job."
Very much a professional state lobbyist, and moved from state to state, issue to issue, employer to employer, although he was on the conservative and "rights" side of issues. He was very effective, and had years of experience at the job.

Wayne got into some hot water back in the 90's by opining that Bill Clinton was willing to accept a certain level of gun violence in order to advance his anti-gun political agenda.
True statement back then. Even more true today.
