Are we prepared for a future of drone warfare?

Original Article

Military strikes in a future of drone warfare are more stealthy, more agile and potentially more effective. "It's like when the tank came on the scene and when the submarine came on the scene, when the machine gun entered the the scene in the beginning," Lt. Col. Daniel Davis told Scripps News. But the recent militant strike on a military base in Jordan that killed three U.S. servicemembers and injured dozens more begs the question: Are we ready for this future? "You know in terms of capabilities, there is a huge difference across the [NATO] alliance," said Federico Borsari, a fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis.

Prepared or not, it WILL be happening. The Ukraine invasion is a preview, and an ugly one. One huge issue is that even if you CAN shoot them down, often the weapons used to shoot down a cheap drone/cruise missile costs 10 or 100 times as much as the target destroyed. This sort of a 'victory' can be extremely expensive, and exhaust supplies of expensive, complex defensive weapons. Cheap kills needed against cheap weapons - and this is not something that has been developed very well. A young ex-military friend is working on an anti-drone military defensive system for his company, contracted to the US military. A very difficult problem, for certain.

They should have thought about this when they let the Iranians keep that Predator of ours that crash landed in their territory and they used it for purposes of re-engineering. Obama and Biden helping them with their nuclear program is a bit more scary.

there are many sizes and types of "Drones", in the opening minutes of the Hamas attack on Israel small drones carrying hand grenades hovered up to and over observation/gun towers, and were able to drop them on the observers, but COULD have been easily destroyed by a simple 12ga shotgun if one had been kept handy.(they ARE kept handy now) I can see the need for more "Cluster" type munitions, both for targeting drone launch/control positions as well as for hitting them in flight. As well as better electronic/radio jamming approaches.

Obviously when it comes to an armed drone flying low into a US military facility at night, especially a small camp, it does not look like the US Military has a reliable defense against those drones. A week or so ago the Iranians, supposedly through proxies, flew such a low level armed drone into a small US military camp on the Jordan border taking the lives of three US soldiers and wounding about forty other US soldiers. Following that the Biden crew through the Pentagon told the American people that the attack was successful because soldiers at that camp misidentified the Iranian drone with a US drone that was at the same time returning to that camp from a mission. How could that happen if one drone was a US drone, and a second drone that certainly would have been unidentified at the same time, were seen flying towards that camp, so after being told that, you would have thought that two incoming drones would have at least caused a “huh” from the soldiers manning the anti-aircraft (drone) defenses at that camp. Now the media is reporting that the little US camp did not have any effective anti-aircraft defense against low flying drones. So the question is why did the Biden Pentagon deploy an Army Reserve Engineer Company from Georgia to that little camp without an effective defense against enemy drones that the Iranian proxies had been using to attack US military facilities in excess of well over one hundred times, and how many such little military camps are still out there without adequate or effective defense against enemy drones that are sure to be used to attack US military facilities in Iraq and Syria in the future?

Russians first used the Lancet drone in Syria and now it is a proven killer on the Ukraine battlefield. Grenades are dropped on troops from drones and some fly with mortar round attached. Battlefield has indeed been altered! Being manufactured quickly and non-expensive.

Nope. "Skynet" is coming, and I see no way to stop it, since it is a widespread global effort, not just one or two corporations like in the movies. And I believe (but don't know for a fact) that the USA is far behind our enemies in DEPLOYING such systems, even if we may have actually led in developing the technologies..

During one of the early commercial breaks during the 2024 Super Bowl, Come Near aired its ad featuring scenes of people of all sorts washing someone’s feet in emulation of Jesus. But many felt the ad completely missed the Biblical point. [SNIP] The ad shows a total of twelve scenes of one individual washing another’s feet. Most appear to be white people doing the washing. None feature a minority washing a white man’s feet, and some even seem to be telling white Christians not to be bigoted. That last one, in particular, features a white priest washing the feet of what appears to be a member of the LGBTQ community.

The Israeli Army in the Gaza Strip slaying thousands of Muslim Brotherhood brothers (Hamas) came upon evidence of UNRWA employees participating in the satanic events of October 7, which should not surprise because UNRWA has been a major player in the antisemitic fantasy of a “Palestinian people” whose homeland was allegedly stolen from them by the Jews, the lie that justifies the very existence of UNRWA in support of the “victims of Zionism.” UNRWA’s brief for 75 years has been supporting millions of “Palestinian refugees” when, truth be told, there is nothing Palestinian about these people. And neither are they refugees.

Israel's neighbors and key mediators warned Saturday of disaster and repercussions if its military launches a ground invasion in Gaza's southern city of Rafah, where Israel says remaining Hamas strongholds are located — along with over half the besieged territory's population. [SNIP] The announcement set off panic. More than half of Gaza's 2.3 million people are packed into Rafah, which borders Egypt. Many fled there after following Israeli evacuation orders that now cover two-thirds of the territory following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack that sparked the war. It's not clear where they could go next. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said any Israeli ground offensive on Rafah would have "disastrous consequences."

More than two dozen confidential witnesses against former president Donald Trump face “significant and immediate risks of threats, intimidation, and harassment” if their identities become public, federal prosecutors have told a judge. In response, U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon in West Palm Beach, Florida put a hold on Friday’s previously scheduled public release of a trove of documents. Cannon has given Trump's attorneys until Feb. 23 to respond, meaning the documents likely won't be released earlier. At issue is evidence prosecutors turned over to defense attorneys in the case over Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida after leaving the White House.

The report states that U.S. venture capitalist companies have helped 'build and strengthen' China's authoritarian regime through a variety of methods. According to the House China Select Committee, over $3 billion was invested into Chinese artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies by five top U.S. venture capitalist firms between 2001 and 2023. The committee launched an investigation last summer into the finances of five companies: Sequoia Capital, Qualcomm Ventures, Walden International, GSR Ventures and GGV Capital.

President Biden's Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen dodged multiple questions from Republicans about why her department instructed banks to comb through Americans' bank records after January 6 looking for 'extremists.' Federal investigators in Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) asked U.S. banks to scour customer transactions for key terms like 'MAGA' and 'Trump,' Republicans revealed in January. The federal government was specifically 'watching' Trump supporters and Americans who frequent outdoor stores such as Cabela's, Dick's Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops, and also those who purchased religious texts, such as a Bible. The report sparked a flurry of backlash at the Biden administration from Republicans demanding answers about the government's spy tactics.

At a budget meeting on Friday Feb. 2, the HRM approved Halifax Public Libraries’ proposed $25 million budget for 2024/25, an increase of $1.5 million from last year. What makes this a bitter pill to swallow, even if it was pre-approved in December, is that nearly half of the increase—$692,355 of your hard-earned tax dollars—is because of and will mostly go to Jeff Bezos. When the library wants to buy a book, an actual ink-on-paper object, it costs about $15 and they can have it until it falls apart. If the library wants an audio book, it costs thousands of dollars to lend it out for two years.

Conservatives have spoken out against provisions in the bill they see as handouts to illegal immigrants, particularly an expansion of the Child Tax Credit without language requiring the parent to have a Social Security number. They argue the expansion would serve as an additional powerful migration pull, even as migrant encounters at the border reach record highs under President Joe Biden.
