With the same tenacity shown by the legendary outlaw himself, Utah lawmakers are once again trying to turn the site of the childhood home of Butch Cassidy into a state monument. [SNIP] Despite previous failed attempts to seek a designation for the site, the resolution sponsored by Rep. Carl Albrecht reads "that it is in the best interest of Piute County to preserve and maintain the Butch Cassidy home as a state monument." [SNIP] Cassidy worked closely with his partner — "Sundance Kid" Harry Longabaugh. The two were immortalized in a 1969 film starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

Let's see...a horse thief, cattle rustler, bank robber and murderer. Because of some stupid Hollywood movie, became romanticized into some kind of hero. Kinda like that liberal hater, Burt Lancaster, who turned Robert Stroud, the Birdman of Alcatraz, into some sort kindly benevolent national hero, and had gullible teachers making their students write letters pleading for his release. In reality, Stroud was the sickest perverted pedophile and rapist, as proved by the journals he kept, describing the disgusting things he fantasized about doing to these children who wrote in.

It's a stupid proposal, but there's nothing ideological about it. The only reason the legislature is even considering a bill would be because impoverished Piute County might benefit from a few more tourist dollars if this Butch Cassidy bill were to be passed and funded.

#7, those look like three Lombardy Poplar trees. The photograph was either taken in the late fall when the trees' leaves had turned brown, or maybe the trees are dead for lack of water.

Top lawmakers put out a bombshell report Thursday revealing how billions of American dollars are flowing into the hands of the Chinese Communist Party - and being used to support their military and genocidal efforts. The report states that U.S. venture capitalist companies have helped 'build and strengthen' China's authoritarian regime through a variety of methods. According to the House China Select Committee, over $3 billion was invested into Chinese artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies by five top U.S. venture capitalist firms between 2001 and 2023. The committee launched an investigation last summer into the finances of five companies: Sequoia Capital, Qualcomm Ventures, Walden International, GSR Ventures and GGV Capital.

President Biden's Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen dodged multiple questions from Republicans about why her department instructed banks to comb through Americans' bank records after January 6 looking for 'extremists.' Federal investigators in Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) asked U.S. banks to scour customer transactions for key terms like 'MAGA' and 'Trump,' Republicans revealed in January. The federal government was specifically 'watching' Trump supporters and Americans who frequent outdoor stores such as Cabela's, Dick's Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops, and also those who purchased religious texts, such as a Bible. The report sparked a flurry of backlash at the Biden administration from Republicans demanding answers about the government's spy tactics.

The IRS said it is poised to reap hundreds of billions of dollars of additional tax revenue by going after overdue and unpaid taxes, far beyond what was previously anticipated, thanks to funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The new analysis, released Tuesday by the Treasury Department and the IRS, estimates that tax revenues are expected to rise by as much as $561 billion from 2024 to 2034, thanks to stepped-up enforcement made possible with money from the Democrats' IRA, which became law in August 2022.

In Mansfield, an LGBTQ+ dance for teens is in the spotlight and the center of a social media firestorm after the original venue backed out for two reasons; but the prom will still go on, just in a new location. Deena Hamilton is the mother of gay twins and the founder of Love on a Mission, a group that seeks to create a safe space for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community. “We're supposed to be like Jesus and show love and respect and even in our differences,” said Hamilton.

At a budget meeting on Friday Feb. 2, the HRM approved Halifax Public Libraries’ proposed $25 million budget for 2024/25, an increase of $1.5 million from last year. What makes this a bitter pill to swallow, even if it was pre-approved in December, is that nearly half of the increase—$692,355 of your hard-earned tax dollars—is because of and will mostly go to Jeff Bezos. When the library wants to buy a book, an actual ink-on-paper object, it costs about $15 and they can have it until it falls apart. If the library wants an audio book, it costs thousands of dollars to lend it out for two years.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is rushing through a tax bill unveiled days ago over significant policy objections from both conservative and centrist factions of the Republican Party. Conservatives have spoken out against provisions in the bill they see as handouts to illegal immigrants, particularly an expansion of the Child Tax Credit without language requiring the parent to have a Social Security number. They argue the expansion would serve as an additional powerful migration pull, even as migrant encounters at the border reach record highs under President Joe Biden.

The damaged display included a statue of the pagan idol Baphomet. [SNIP] Michael Cassidy, a former Mississippi congressional candidate, was charged after the vandalism with misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief. He said at the time, "My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted." That charge was upgraded, according to court documents reported on by the Des Moines Register, accusing Cassidy of committing felony third-degree criminal mischief.

UPS says it will cut 12,000 jobs following a disappointing sales outlook for the year. The layoffs come just five months after the company reached a major union deal. The job cuts will help the company save $1 billion in costs, CEO Carol Tome said in a call Tuesday morning. Manager and contract roles will be the most impacted. Labor negotiations last year threatened to disrupt package deliveries for millions of customers, before a deal with Teamsters was reached. As consumers feared potential strikes, they took their business to rival companies, like FedEx. UPS expects to gain most of that business back, but so far has only won back 60% of it.

The London-based hedge fund blasted BP’s green transition plan as ‘irrational’ and said the strategy has depressed its share price. Investors are concerned that BP is underperforming compared with rival Shell and US energy giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron. Shell has scaled back its net zero transition strategy under the leadership of chief executive Wael Sawan. And American energy firms have doubled down on oil and gas production.

Special counsel Robert Hur’s portrait of a man who couldn’t remember when he served as Barack Obama’s vice president, or the year when his beloved son Beau died, dealt a blow to Biden’s argument that he is still sharp and fit enough to serve another four-year term.

Trump added that it was time to move on from outrage over the ads, which he called “a mistake of epic proportions.” The former president noted that Anheuser-Busch “spends $700 million a year with our great

We've written before about the slow but steady erosion of support from black and Hispanic voters for the Democratic Party, something that became very pronounced during Donald Trump's presidency as he and the RNC courted core left-wing voting blocs by explaining they had a lot more in common with the GOP than they did Democrats. Since Trump left office, the decline in alliances among these same voters for Democrats has continued, but the most recent numbers from Gallup on this front suggest that Dems aren't looking at just a trickling loss of support but a flood as fed-up black and Hispanic Americans are saying "adios" to Democrats in droves:

Following Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report, which included stunning revelations of the deterioration of President Joe Biden’s mental state, Republican officials are calling to invoke the 25th Amendment. They state that “if ever there were a time to do so, now would be it,” and insist that if the president “is not competent to stand trial, then he is certainly not competent to lead the free world.” While highlighting evidence of America’s oldest ever president “willfully” mishandling classified documents, Special Counsel Hur’s report details Biden’s significant cognitive decline — perhaps more politically damning than his handling of classified materials.

Hawaii's highest court ruled Wednesday that Second Amendment rights as interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court do not extend to Hawaii citizens, citing the "spirit of Aloha." In the ruling, which was penned by Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Todd Eddins, the court determined that states "retain the authority to require" individuals to hold proper permits before carrying firearms in public. The decision also concluded that the Hawaii Constitution broadly "does not afford a right to carry firearms in public places for self defense," further pointing to the "spirit of Aloha" and even quoting HBO's TV drama "The Wire."

But somehow a new Palestinian state in Gaza would embrace coexisting with Israel? 3) The PA has an abysmal track record of corruption and was too weak to prevent a Hamas-led coup in Gaza, less than two years after Israel’s withdrawal. So why would the PA perform any better this next time?
