Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor died Friday morning in Phoenix, Arizona, the Supreme Court announced. She was 93. O'Connor died of complications related to advanced dementia, probably Alzheimer's, and a respiratory illness, the Supreme Court said in a statement. Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., said of Justice O’Connor: "A daughter of the American Southwest, Sandra Day O’Connor blazed an historic trail as our Nation’s first female Justice. She met that challenge with undaunted determination, indisputable ability, and engaging candor. We at the Supreme Court mourn the loss of a beloved colleague, a fiercely independent defender of the rule of law, and an eloquent advocate for civics education.

Fierce independence would have involved the rejection and the prevention of tokenism ie quotas ie affirmative action and any other violation of equal protection, due process etc. based on genetic characteristics to say nothing of voluntary choices in life including pregnancy. Intellectual vanity compels too many people to attempt the folly of 'correcting historical wrongs' as if they are clever and benevolent enough to affect the fabric of time and space. It's ironic that justices chosen because they have the armor of race or sex are all too often acting as proxies for their race or sex - with Clarence Thomas the notable exception. Reagan tried to do the right thing but O'Connor let him down as did so many other plastic conservatives.

I was never a fan of her poor interpretations of the Constitution. Nothing against her as a person, but a judge who was more concerned with sexual and other politics than with the words in the Constitution, I was happy when she left the court.

The first of several token Supreme Court justices, and will be remembered as one of many mediocre justices (both male and female). She never should have been nominated or confirmed. Condolences to her family.

I will remember her from the night when John Riggins of the Redskins got drunk while sitting at her table at an event, told her to "loosen up, Sandy baby", and then Riggo proceeded to pass out under the table where nobody disturbed him for the rest of the dinner. Great memories.

I’m routinely asked why non-conservative/non-orthodox American Jews are so committed to the Democrat party despite mounting evidence for years now that the Democrat party is the party of American antisemitism. I could talk about 19th-century Jews becoming socialists because the socialists opposed the antisemitic Russian Tsar or 20th-century American Jews finding the Democrat party more welcoming than the Republican. But here’s the real reason why American Jews are leftists: It’s their obsession with academic credentials, especially from the fanatically leftwing Ivies. That, however, may finally change. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, American Jews saw that a college degree

The stories told by hostages who have been released by Hamas are heartbreaking. This is just the beginning. The scope of the abuse won’t fully be known until sometime in the future. Many hostages are not talking much out of fear for those who continue to be held by the evil ones. Others are too traumatized to tell their stories. Their lives will never be the same. The worst for me are the stories of the children, the youngest victims of Hamas. Children were branded in case they escaped, according to Yaniv Yaakov, the uncle of the brothers Or, 16, and Yagil, 12, who were freed on Nov. 27. “Every child that

An Illinois appeals court upheld actor Jussie Smollett’s conviction for staging a hate crime in a Friday ruling. The 2-1 ruling means Smollett is likely headed to jail to serve out his 150-day sentence, though his legal team vowed to appeal the ruling to the state supreme court. “We wish to highlight that the decision was divided, with Justice [Freddrenna] Lyle offering a detailed analysis in favor of Smollett,” Smollett’s representative Holly Baird told Fox News.”We are preparing to escalate this matter to the Supreme Court, armed with a substantial body of evidence.”

Speakers at COP28 on Friday include Mohammed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, a leading oil producer, and Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, where sprawling cities suffer from worsening air pollution. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was among the first to speak. Reiterating his message that unprecedented global heating is causing human suffering, he called on leaders to take urgent action. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — As world leaders gathered for the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, the collapse of a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war Friday plunged the conflict back into open combat and cast a long shadow over the talks. Israel’s top diplomat for the Middle East huddled with leaders at the summit as his colleagues went through a book of posters of those held hostage by the militant group Hamas, placing yellow “released” stickers by some while looking at others still held. Meanwhile, just a street away at the Palestinian territories’ first-ever pavilion, an official gave a horrified look when Associated Press journalists gave her the news that

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Friday that Israel had struck over 200 terror targets in both northern and southern Gaza after Hamas violated a seven-day truce just over an hour before it was set to expire. In a statement, the IDF said: Following Hamas’ violation of the operational pause, over the last few hours, ground, air and naval forces struck terror targets in the north and south of the Gaza Strip, including in Khan Yunis and Rafah. The IDF struck areas booby-trapped with explosives, terror tunnel shafts, launch posts, and operational command centers designated by Hamas for use in the renewed fighting.

The bottom line is this: the modern home of antisemitism is the Democrat Party. That’s not to say that being a Democrat makes you an antisemite. Hardly. 7 in 10 Jews are Democrats, and many non-Jewish Democrats are anything but antisemites. But let’s face facts: the home of antisemites in America is the Democrat Party. While 80% of Republicans and nearly 70% of Independents support Israel, only 45% of Democrats do. It’s pretty hard to ignore these dramatic differences. Most of the Republicans I see who are critical of supporting Israel do so because they lean toward isolationism, disdaining support for Ukraine as well as Israel. Most of the Democrats

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) correctly noted in his 90-minute rout of Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) that Newsom is a liberal bully. The more accurate term would be “crybully,” and Newsom is the biggest crybully in the country. Newsom’s attempt at shaming DeSantis that backfired was about DeSantis threatening to fine the Special Olympics. Newsom’s “how dare you” routine was designed to make DeSantis look like the bad guy, but he got everything backward. As DeSantis noted, he was threatening to fine the organization of the Special Olympics because it was going to ban athletes who did not receive a COVID-19 vaccine

Florida appears poised to hold no presidential primary election for Democrats this cycle after the state party submitted only President Joe Biden’s name as a candidate up for the nomination. The move to leave Rep. Dean Phillips off the primary ballot left the Minnesota Democrat enraged on Thursday. He threatened a lawsuit and a convention fight if he didn’t win ballot access in the state. “Americans would expect the absence of democracy in Tehran, not Tallahassee,”

Americans are reproducing at a rate that is too low to replace themselves. At this rate, Americans will go extinct. It’s like the situation in Italy where Catholics have become so adept at violating the Church’s prohibitions on birth control that they’ll be gone soon. I figure the only way to save Italy for the Italians is for the Church to permit – nay, mandate – birth control. If there’s one thing Catholics have learned over 2,000 years, it’s that their highest spiritual calling is to disobey their infallible-ish Pope. Only if the shepherd requires birth control will his flock

On Friday's Morning Joe, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough unsubtly suggested that the U.S. should cut off funding for Israel until Benjamin Netanyahu was deposed as prime minister: "Israel needs U.S. funding . . . I'm not so sure that Congress and the President want to approve even more money for Israel until we know that there's actually somebody running Israel that even the Israelis support." Scarborough obviously detested Netanyahu and, in his tirade, accused him of ignoring the dangers in Gaza, focusing instead on the West Bank. But regardless of Scarborough's opinion, Netanyahu was and, at least for the present, remained the duly elected prime minister.
