Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google paid $26.3 billion to other companies in 2021 to ensure its search engine was the default on web browsers and mobile phones, a top company executive testified during the Justice Department's antitrust trial, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.
The amount of payments Google made for the default status has more than tripled since 2014, according to senior executive Prabhakar Raghavan who is responsible for both search and advertising, the report added.
Google's revenue from search advertising came in at $146.4 billion in 2021, while the payments for the default setting were its biggest cost, Raghavan was mentioned as saying in the Bloomberg report.

They are probably the best search engine. It's just unfortunate they use that power to push agendas. I've tried several others and the come up wanting.

And I work diligently to CANCEL Google on every device I own, and each browser and replace it with other search engines.
Google is evil. Friends don't let friends use Google.

Only $26,000,000,000?
Pocket change!
The way The HairSniffer is destroying the currency, a McDonalds hamburger will cost that much in a few years.
More seriously, I find that Google's search engine works better than most, but I use it ONLY as a Last Resort and through a VPN, as I do my best to deny Google any of my information, of which they apparently try to vacuum up as much of -along with all the information they can get on everyone else- as they can.

That much cash could have funded a substantial war.
Or……. Fed a lot of hungry people, paid for a lot of scholarships, planted a lot of trees or paid for a lot of medical care. So the leftest of left corporations, the wokest of the woke chose, instead of helping the planet or the poor, wizzed away 26billion to increase its profits!!!! How do they sleep at night? Hypocrites!
But the real question is: What was Biden’s cut?

Too bad for Google that we can easily change our default search engine, choosing from many others for free, as millions of us do every time we get new computers. Anybody who colluded with Barack Obama deserves to go out of business.

I typically use Duck Duck Go and avoid Google at every opportunity. It probably doesn't help much, but might as well not make it easy for them.

DuckDuckGo.com claims it doesn't track you. Nobody knows for sure; it is a foregone conclusion that Google tracks--you can tell by all the slam ads you get if you make the most arcane inquiry.

If you use it, you are kidding yourself that you aren't part of the problem. Even Bing is better and there are others. NOTHING google directs you to can't be found on others. Might take a few seconds more to do multiple searches, but why feed evil?
