Senate Democrats are working with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and a handful of Republicans on a rarely used procedural tactic to defeat Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) blockade of more than 360 military promotions, a stalemate that has consumed the Senate for months. Democrats are looking at using a standing order resolution to move a block of more than 300 nonpolitical military nominees who have been stalled for months because of Tuberville’s holds to protest the Department of Defense’s (DOD) abortion policies.

While I have no doubt that there are many career military officers who share DimoTwit philosophies, Tubervilles' holds punish many good officers from now overdue promotions. He is using a blunt instrument to make his point about abortion policies. But his point was made months ago and he needs to find another means to his end.

We have FAR too many Field Grade Officers anyway. I once read that we have the same number of FGO's as we did during WWII, but with only a third of the Enlisted ranks. Upside-down pyramids are bad for corporations and destructive in a military organization.

The solution is simple. The DoD just has to follow the long-approved bipartisan Hyde Amendment that states that federal funding will not be spent on abortions. This is all about dishonest, lying Democrats who can't be trusted to keep their words and stubbornness of the corrupt Biden Administration. I would shut down ALL government funding over this.

I hope Tuberville continues to be successful with the promotions in the military. I understand we have more generals than in WWII, and a much smaller military.

#1 how did we get to this point? by always relenting. when do we stop? when we have lost everything? it is past time to dig in. BTW promotions were once for merit and need not merely time served. Many officers such as Patton received field promotions during war but were busted back in rank when hostilities ended.

Early in my career I was told to go to an Order Of The Sword ceremony, wherein a General is honored by his troops as being the greatest guy alive. Note that it is not decided by the troops, but by the senior NCO corps. I balked and was told I should go because I would never see another such ceremony as long as I live, as they are so rare. I saw four more. Too many generals, too much politics.

Blocking military promotions which are probably ALL bad, woke, harmful moves is a good move. I applaud Sen. Tuberville on this idea. Can't put more woke losers higher up in the ranks....if they can't get promoted.

I'm amazed at how many on this site fall for the Democrat propaganda. Tuberville has put a hold on the promotions being approved by unanimous consent. Schumer can bring each to the floor for a vote so it is Schumer who is withholding the promotions. The Senate isn't an organization that is overworked so they could do this, but Schumer would rather have the propaganda -- which is obviously working on many on this site.

Senator Tuberville is entirely right to use what power he has to force the Biden administration to remove the pro-abortion policies that affect the military. It is disgusting that too many Republicans get the shivers when wielding the power that they have. The message to Americans is simple. Abortion or fill military positions. Not a hard choice.

The hundreds of millions of dollars the Qataris have given Hamas during the past decade have been instrumental in helping the terrorist group to develop the infrastructure that enabled it to carry out its murderous assault on Israel in the first place. Qatar would like the world to believe that it is acting as an honest broker with its efforts to secure the release of the Gaza captives. But the reality is that it deserves to be condemned by the West as a state that sponsors global terrorism, so long as it maintains its indefensible support for Hamas.

On Friday evening, Harvard President Claudine Gay gave a speech to Harvard Hillel that was adapted in Forward. Gay forthrightly admitted that Harvard has an anti-Semitism problem: Here in the U.S., we are witnessing a surge in anti-Jewish incidents and rhetoric across the nation — and on our own campus. The ancient specter of antisemitism, that persistent and corrosive hatred, has returned with renewed force. A recent ADL report found that incidents of antisemitism had almost tripled over the past six years nationally. Here at Harvard, I’ve heard story after story of Jewish students feeling increasingly uneasy or even threatened on campus.

Instead, Gallant offered Hamas a different deal, which sounds remarkably like Hamas’ true ‘offer’ to the Israelis. “Die or surrender” sums both up nicely, no? This is the same ‘deal’ that Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran have offered Israel for decades. It’s the same deal that the other Arab nations offered between 1947 and roughly 1979, too. For the last sixteen years, Israel has hoped that withdrawal from Gaza might moderate those enemies similarly as Egypt and Jordan moderated
