The Georgia police officer who shot a recently exonerated man during a traffic stop in Georgia was once fired for excessive use of force. Camden County Sheriff's deputy Buck Aldridge killed unarmed Leonard Cure, 53, after pulling him over on the I-95 on Monday. Cure had been freed after spending 16 years in prison for a wrongful armed robbery conviction and was unarmed at the time of the stop for speeding. Bodycam footage showed him lashing out after being tasered by Aldridge. The footage then shows the officer shooting Cure as he was lying on the ground.

Comments:

The lynching of this policeman has begun. While the shooting was obviously justified, they'll say his behavior up to Cure attacking him was excessive. No wonder it is hard to recruit police these days. Armchair analysis makes it a losing proposition.

So? Some people are wrongfully terminated, and don't contest it. We know from video he probably took non-lethal measures too far, endangering himself.

Watch the Dash Cam, Honey. The officer asked 14 times for Aldridge to comply, and he didn't. Then after being tased, he attacked the officer, and the officer had no other choice but to shoot him. Give the officer a medal, he showed restraint, and tried, unsuccessfully, to get this guy to comply. If he had, he would have gotten a Reckless Driving Ticket and been on his way in a few minutes.

Leonard Cure had only recently been released from prison (for armed robbery) when he was arrested and then convicted for robbing that Walgreens (the conviction that was eventually overturned). They never mention facts like this at the Innocence Project.

Most people don't actually bother to go past the headline on any given article. This is designed to gin up controversy and boost whatever narrative the media wants to advance. Witness the recent series of media lies about the so-called "Gaza hospital bombing" that turned out to be an errant Palestinian missile--one intended to hit Israel--that landed in the parking lot. All the media sources screamed it killed 500 Palestinians and Israel did it so naturally, that headline was picked up and resulted in world-wide violence directed at Israeli and American interests. This DM article is designed to do the same thing--to gin up violence in the usual suspects and create chaos.

The very first para is bs. Perp wasn't "lashing out." He was grappling with the officer trying to gouge his eyes and choke him out. Officer didn't shoot him on the ground. He got to his gun during mortal combat with the perp and shot him. The perp then FELL to the ground. Officer used non lethal weapons first but the perp shrugged them off. Article is crap. Writer is a dishrag "journo." Just watch the stinkin video!!

Watch the dashcam video and you decide. First off, the guy was driving over 100 mph and erratically. Just because he was "wrongfully convicted" of another crime doesn't give him the right to drive like a crazy man. The perp was unhinged and fought with the officer. Not a good career move.

Nowadays people are overturning all sorts of convictions of black men. I sat on a jury that convicted a black man of rape, torture, murder once. We were presented with tons of evidence and he confessed. Later, his sentence was changed from life without parole to a short sentence of almost time served. Reason enough to flee California, had I not left already. The video shows plenty of justification for this officer killing that driver.

His mother stated that Leonard Cure was scared of police officers etc. Yet, when you watch the video, I do not see scared. I see resistance and when you are traveling at 100 mph in a car, it is the police officer's responsibility to make sure no one else is harmed. It is a blessing that there was a Brinks employee trying to help the police officer if I am remembering the article accurately.

Don't forget. This is a country where if a man is overdosing on drugs and the cop tries to hold him for the ambulance. And then later the guy dies. The cop is sent to prison for life.

seemed clear to me. the man continued to resist until finally shot. the cop's demeanor confirms this was NOT a police over reaction but a legitimate use of force. You would think that after years in prison a person would understand that resisting an armed cop would end badly but perhaps the big lawsuite payout inflated his ego beyond common sense.

I would post a link but can't remember if that is allowed, but, it's easy to find the court documents related to his "exoneration" of the armed robbery charge that led to his 16 years in prison, and what you will find is that his conviction was overturned not by an appeals court, but rather the trial court based on the local prosecutor consenting to same after an administrative "review" of the original case. This review, conducted 16 years after the crime (and after the death of key investigators), concluded that there was "reasonable doubt" of Cure's guilt and that he was "most likely innocent". This is less than a complete exoneration, and the process is quite different from an appeals court overturning the conviction (in fact appeals courts earlier DID uphold the conviction) although the legal effect was to purge the conviction.

Cure was uncooperative from the get go. He would not follow any of the officers’ commands. He was resisting and then decided to go full bore and put the officer in some kind of a headlock, that is when he got shot. What was the officer supposed to do, let him kill him? All the guy had to do was listen and obey. I am afraid that some of us in this country are not capable of that. That is when you pay the price for the foolishness of your actions.

He didn't use excessive force this time. It was 100% clear that the perp was aching for a fight from the instant his vehicle stopped. And driving past a cop at 100 mph, which he basically said he had done, on camera, is just the way a punk like this picks a fight with a cop......which is what he did. The world is a better place with Leonard in the ground.

Pick a fight with police, get shot dead. It's not rocket science. Problem is more people are resorting to violence these days. Hardly a surprise when so many 'activists' are saying violence is an acceptable response for being 'wronged'. Don't hold your breath that the police will come up with ways to resolve these situations without bloodshed. Any solution would never be 100% successful.

Before epilepsy was understood to be a neurological condition, people believed it was caused by the moon, or by phlegm in the brain. They condemned seizures as evidence of witchcraft or demonic possession, and killed or castrated sufferers to prevent them from passing tainted blood to a new generation. Today we know epilepsy is a disease. By and large, it’s accepted that a person who causes a fatal traffic accident while in the grip of a seizure should not be charged with murder. That’s good, says Stanford University neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky. That’s progress. But there’s still a long way to go.
