A federal grand jury in New York has returned an indictment against United States Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., chairman of the powerful Foreign Relations Committee. The investigation focused on a luxury car, gold bars and an apartment allegedly received by Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian. His wife was also indicted. Hey, Bob. Call up Hunter and Joe. They got attorneys that can get you out of any mess. Might cost you a few of those gold bars, though. And that's over and above what the attorneys will cost.

How many more in the Senate are there? Some are more sophisticted than others. Some, who grew up outside the political class and DC world, made their money the old fasnioned way--Ron Johnson come to mind. Our founding fathers envisioned a Senate of accompiished, landowers, captains of industry who served a part time job as overseers of a constitutional republica. Now, we have a Senate full of career errand boys, who moved from college republican door knockers, envelope stoffers and cold callers to unprincipled hacks who take directions from guys in private jets and lives that would not hold up to public scrutiny and financial review. All Hail the Bob Mendezes of the world. Meawhile, Orange man bad.

A caption on two evidentiary pictures: "A photo of a jacket and cash from the indictment of Sen. Bob Menendez, found during a 2022 search by federal agents. Investigators found over $480,000 in cash in his New Jersey home. U.S. Southern District of New York" Menendez has been suspected of corruption for years but not charged. Why now? Is something else damaging to the administration about to come out? Another thing: Wasn't Menendez tied to the Lolita Express and Epstein's Caribbean Underage Island? (That info is under lock and key, probably in a nuclear safe bunker in Davos. If that leaks, a lot of famous people are finished.) I always thought Moon Man Menendez looked like he belonged in a space suit and fish tank helmet, circa 1970. Maybe he'll take a rocket out of this place if the heat gets too uncomfortable. We should be so lucky.

The major film and television studios on Saturday evening delivered their “best and final” offer to the striking writers, a person close to the situation told CNN, adding to significant hope that the negotiations to end the months-long strike will conclude with an agreement this weekend. Negotiators with the Writers Guild of America were expected to review the offer and deliver their response. The Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers spent Saturday negotiating for the fourth consecutive day. Should a tentative deal be reached, it would still need to be ratified by rank-and-file members before it could go into effect.

Washington — A State Department IT contractor was charged with espionage after investigators alleged he sent classified documents from sensitive federal systems to foreign government contacts — and likely gave those contacts access to his U.S. government account, the Justice Department announced Thursday. Abraham Teklu Lemma — described by officials as a naturalized U.S. citizen of Ethiopian descent with a top-secret security clearance — was allegedly working for and accessing sensitive U.S. government records at the bidding of Ethiopia since at least last summer, two sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to CBS News.

Deviating from his past legislative support of transgender youth in California, Democratic governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that would have required parents to demonstrate affirmation of their child’s gender identity in custody court battles. Under California Bill AB957, judges would have been legally obligated to specifically consider whether parents have affirmed their child’s gender identity or gender expression in determining “the health, safety, and welfare of the child.” The California State Assembly passed the bill along strictly party lines earlier this month, hoping to advance transgender rights in the state.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) launched a savage attack on a federal judge on social media Friday evening, calling U.S. Judge Roger T. Benitez “an extremist, right-wing zealot with no regard to [sic] human life.” Newsom’s post was a reaction to Judge Benitez’s ruling Friday that California’s limit on high-capacity magazines violates the Second Amendment — the second time Benitez has ruled against the ban since a partial stay in 2019. Benitez, who was born in Cuba, serves in the Southern District of California and was nominated by George W. Bush. A federal judge yet again declared California's ban on gun magazines unconstitutional Friday. The ban was first instituted in a 2000 measure signed into law by then-Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, and prohibited state residents from buying or selling magazines that hold 10 or more rounds. U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez struck it down after previously striking it in 2019. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Benitez's ruling in 2021, arguing that the ban fell in line with the state's efforts to reduce gun violence and is compatible with the Second Amendment. Then, the Supreme Court vacated the appeals court ruling and ordered new proceedings consistent
