The landmark Washington National Cathedral unveiled new stained-glass windows Saturday with a theme of racial justice, filling the space that had once held four windows honoring Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.
The new windows depict a march for justice by African Americans, descendants of the very people who would have remained in slavery after the Civil War if the side for which the officers fought had prevailed.
The cathedral had removed the old windows after Confederate symbols featured prominently in recent racist violence.

I have no problem with this action. Most of these memorials which honor Confederate heroes were very deliberate 'in your face' remembrances. They weren't directed at Blacks or prior slaves per se but more as testaments to 'The South shall rise again'. Today's Blacks rightfully see them otherwise. I understand the arguments against that the erasure of history is dangerous, but human nature ensures that people will repeat the sins of the past with or without these memorials, anyway.

Needless to say this article, which included several photos of the new stained glass, didn't include any photos of what they replaced. Of course to do so would show that, artistically, the new images are radically inferior to the ones that were removed. The new images are even inferior to Soviet style propaganda pictures. The drive to remove all beauty and replace with ugliness continues.

The article says that Images in the Cathedral range from presidents to famous cultural figures and state symbols. Do they have anything related to the Christian faith?

A few years ago Duke University removed a stained glass portrait of Lee, but left the portrait of Jesus on the pinnacle of the temple with a prominent little green devil looking over his shoulder. The devil's more appropriate for these people than a human, Confederate or not.

I have an ancestor who was one of the biggest slaveholders in the state of Georgia. I abjectly apologize for his part in bringing Africans into this country. Just think...had he and others not done so, we would have half the violent crime in this country and we would only need half the prisons, half the judges, half the legal system and we would have saved trillions of welfare dollars. Our blue big cities would not be the hellholes they are now. Sorry, folks.

And here I thought that the purpose of decorating a place of worship was to glorify G_d. The National Cathedral isn’t about G_d at all. It’s about raking in dollars for the Episcoal Church and glorifying American achievements. I’m some what surprised that actual worship is tolerated there. It is after all run by the most woke religious organization in America.

For the record, the south fought the Civil War for state's rights, not slavery. Only 10% of southerners owned slaves. My mom said as a little girl she remembered sitting on the porch where old men were talking about the war. Towards the end all they had to fight with were rocks. Seems to me we're still fighting for state's rights.

The new windows should have gotten sacred themes, like maybe the mysteries of the Gospel. Or maybe this highlights what they consider sacred.

I can't say I like these windows very much. Slavery was an abomination. But it was not unique to the south - slavery under the Ottoman Empire was horrible. Black slaves were routinely castrated.

Oh, and "for the record" the confederate states fought the war over slavery, not state's rights. If one reads their articles of secession many stated very clearly that they were seceded in order to preserve slavery intheir state. The war was about slavery and nothing else. All the blather abolut states' rights is just nonh9istorical rationalization by the losers.

Went looking for pictures of the removed windows. What I found wasn't terribly artful, was less preachy, and had only a small portion that would give you any idea that it identified the rebel south. Judge for yourself. https://imgs.search.brave.com/Q-QTLmQ89Lh1qAhIxj0kUKewx-KzDs8OL7epnpjV9vQ/rs:fit:500:0:0/g:ce/aHR0cHM6Ly9tZWRp/YS5ucHIub3JnL2Fz/c2V0cy9pbWcvMjAx/Ny8wOS8wNi93bmMt/bGVlamFja3Nvbndp/bmRvd3MxX3dpZGUt/NjBlMDA4YmIxY2Iy/Y2NhM2ZjOWQ2ZTZk/OGMyNDhiN2E2ZmYz/MTY1OC1zMTEwMC1j/NTAuanBn

A window must now be provided to honor the 'brave' North African Muslims who 'rescued' the 'oppressed' blacks for relocation to the New World by European Merchant-Ship captains, who ever so 'safely' brought the 'migrants' to America, where they were 'seized' upon to be enslaved and brutalized by 'evil white men.'
/s
There was a very good reason for the 'victor' of the "War Between the States" to attempt to heal the wounds of a nation by honoring their military leaders. (Note: no window for President Jefferson Davis!) Both sides had lost the lives of hundreds of thousands of "mostly white" soldiers and civilians with animosity still running very deep and now, drenched in blood. Showing respect for the vanquished is good policy when you must all live and work together moving forward. By the way, there's not a single "Socialist Injustice Coward" worthy to touch the Saber's Sheath of either Gens. "Stonewall" Jackson or Robert E. Lee; both were fine Christian gentlemen, courageous leaders, and brilliant minds.

Those "new" stained glass windows are ugly and not a work of art. It's a work of ugly! I think whoever is behind this
is just trying to provoke more racial hatred and division. This is how far our nation has fallen; take down our history and
replace it with propaganda!

I can understand that the old windows would offend some people. However, it would have been better if the new windows had a religious or a neutral theme instead of swinging the pendulum in the opposite direction.
