Believe it or not, people are reluctant to tell total strangers about their potentially controversial activities. In particular, Rutgers University researchers say, gun ownership is something many Americans decline to reveal when questioned by people they don't know. That's especially true of women and minorities newly among the ranks of gun owners amidst the chaos of recent years. Academics are unhappy that privacy-minded respondents impair their understanding of the world we live in, but such evasion is an inevitable consequence of decades of fiery debate and punitive gun policies.

The picture at the top of the article shows an 1911 style hammer fired pistol being "Mexican"-carried directly over the spine without a holster guarding the trigger. You just can't break any more gun safety rules than that. For one thing, if the gun carrier gets knocked on his tailbone with the gun in there, he might be paralyzed from the waist down when the gun breaks his back.
This article is full of good sense, but that picture kills the entire intent of the article. Even some of the 2A supporters are idiots if they carry this way.

It is none of their business. They are more than likely compiling a list like the Germans did. That list was supposed to be destroyed before Hitler came to power. It wasn't so his brownshirts went around and disarmed anyone who was Jewish or did not tow the party line. We all know how that worked out.

Gun owners intuitively understand that registration is only one-step removed from confiscation. This is what makes the recent armed raid on records from a gun shop even more worrisome as a backdoor approach to registration.

One other thing: His finger is on the trigger as he is drawing, Mexican carry at six o'clock. Unintended discharge alert! The picture ass model--they wouldn't dare show his face--for this article might not kill himself if he shoots himself in the butt while speed drawing, but that could not possibly feel good.

Maybe it's my neighborhood, state, or my circle of friends, but we all assume the stranger sitting near us is armed. Why ask? Especially someone who will use the data for some nefarious reason. Doctors, poll takers. Nope - don't have one.

How terribly sad!
I fear that our society will collapse unless these people get the information that they so desperately need to be able to tell us how to live our lives properly.

Most people I’m acquainted with know I own a few guns. If anyone ever asks how many I have, I just tell them “more than I need, and less than I want.”

It is best not to let it be known that you have a gun(s) because you become a target for theft, and I'd rather keep my firearms.

With all the effort to ban guns of any type, I don't blame anyone who denies owning a gun.

Lesson learned. Researchers assume gun owners are liars cause they don't answer total strangers questions. Leasson learn. Never ever answer any survey. That includes polls. All this 'research' and polling appears to be politically motivated and with Diaper Joe and his witch hunt crazy Dept of Just-Us, any information about us can and will be used against us.

Some friends are very aware, others...it is not a topic of conversation much, but not in denial.
As to someone surveying.....not a chance I'd answer accurately. And i have personally assisted at least 35 women newly learning to shoot firearms in the last decade.

The question on the form I get at a doctor’s office says, “Is there a gun in your house?” I focus on the word “a” and answer truthfully “No.”

I think the feds are gradually compiling a gun registry. So, make their job as difficult as possible. Use cash to buy guns and gun accessories. Aquire guns through private purchases if you can. Keep your own confidence. As Poster 1 said, “mums the word.”

Ten years ago, my wife swore that she would never hold and own a gun. Now she does and is quite the marksman. As for me, premises well-protected by Smith & Wesson and Ruger. As regards any valuables you may own, keep your effing mouth shut. Suggest you buy a high-quality safe. Don't spew to anyone or anything. Not even to the fish in your fish tank.

We dont hold with no guns at our house. We have an old golf club for burglars, bears, mad dogs and antifa mutants. People who own guns are insecure and afraid.
Ignore the loading bench in my basement. It was here when we moved in.

Wonder how many of these so-called academics have huge signs outside their homes saying...This is a gun free zone. Asking for a friend.

I'll explain it to the academics. When the government makes it's inevitable move to attempt complete dictatorship we want to make our pushback as big a surprise as possible. As Sun Tzu says: When you are strong, make your enemy think you are weak.
Personally, I have a Daisy air rifle that shoots at 300 feet per second and I use it scare cats away from the bird feeder.

Re #3, the gun is a double action Beretta 92, with the hammer down, so relatively safe, but putting finger on the trigger before removing it from the waistband is stupidly dangerous, even though the trigger pull is about 10 lbs or more.
Never put your finger into the trigger guard until on target and ready to fire.

A few weeks ago when a couple of State Troopers came to inform me my wife was burned beyond recognition in an auto accident, after identifying her as the only possible person in the car, they asked if she had her gun on her. As far as I know she had all of them!
