Jamilla Vanbuckley would like to buy a home one day.
A correctional counselor in New York City, Vanbuckley has been living with her parents and tucking as much money as possible into her savings account. But by late summer, she expects a new expense to enter her monthly budget – gradually paying off the $68,000 she owes in student debt.
"I'm gonna have to dip into my savings to start paying back on August 29," she said, mentioning the day that payments for direct federal student loans are set to resume. "And now that kind of hinders the goals I had set for myself for the next couple of years."

But the Biden Administration is doing everything in its power to reward the deadbeats, so there is still hope.

Let me correct you people: the people who owe student loans including parents are NOT deadbeats the loans were a means to an end to get a college education and then qualify for a decent job. Most folks are just trying to survive in Biden's economy food, gas, rent, housing, daycare. Please STOP the trash talking and smug superior attitude.

What field of study did Jamilla enter? Elizabethan Literature? Hilly Billy studies? A rich relative of mine sent her son to an expensive private university. He got a degree in political science. When he graduated the only job he could get was working in a pizza parlor. Not knocking people who work in food preparation. But, the college grad was working next to people who didn't graduate from high school.

Personal income taxes also “kind of hinders my goals” for the future so welcome to the Debt Machine that the Government has designed for us. You signed on the dotted line? You are nobody so special that the US taxpayer will forgive your commitment because your life is tiough.

That money belongs to someone else. Namely the taxpayers. Not giving it back is theft. Just like Biden taking the oath of an office he stole.

OK, ABC. Why didn't you ask why they took out the loans? And why did they assume they'd never have to pay them back? And if they don't pay them back, who will? Where is the fairness there?Admit it, ABC. You're just setting up another "freebie" vote for Biden.

When I was a lad, I too applied for and received student loans for a liberal arts college I briefly attended outside of Los Angeles. But I wasn't ready for college, so I dropped out after 1 semester. I bummed around for about 10 years, working low paying jobs, but I paid back the loans I was responsible for.
I came to my senses and decided to return to school to get a degree.
Only this time, I worked my way through school, no loans.
Once I graduated, I got a job in the medical field, where I have been since 1995.
I have worked full time in this field, and I make a good living.
Liberal Arts degrees are fine, if you want to teach in a small college somewhere.
But a liberal arts education is the path of least resistance. Many people choose this path because they don't have to work that hard to get the degree. But the degree programs are expensive.
You have to work hard, and put your time in to make a decent living.
That's the ultimate lesson.
Unfortunately, they don't seem to teach that lesson in college.

Yes, you dip into YOUR savings to pay on YOUR loan that YOU took out for YOUR education. It's not that hard to understand. Leave your hands off of my savings account. Not my loan not my obligation. I cannot believe they think this is the proper solution to their personal responsibility.

The article says the monthly student loan bill averages $160 a month. I'm going to go out on a limb here and bet that every one of these wanna be free loaders have cable TV, cell phones, acrylic nails, hair extensions, tattoos and hit Starbucks or it's equivalent at least once a day. The cost of those items can add up to a lot more than $160 a month. So what we have here is this loan is absolutely repayable if those who owe the money eliminate just a few of the above items they would have no problem paying the debt back.

But the loan officer looked just like santy clause. In fact the loan docs had a sanity clause. I believed in sant clause.
It’ll be Christmas for the lenders as they are drowned in late fees and penalty interest.

When you borrow money, you should include the payments in your financial planning. You have a legal obligation to pay what is due.

Another solution might be considered. Suppose that all institutions that received the monies funded by loans simply forgave them. In most cases they possess the endowments to do so. This act must, however, be accompanied by refunds of tuition payments to all of those poor schmucks who paid without taking loans.

Since when is borrowing money, signing a promissory note and fulfilling your obligation to repay the loan a "train wreck"? Up until now a "loan" meant a temporary arrangement that the loaner expected to get back. I have no sympathy for anyone who borrows money to finance in many cases a worthless degree or anyone who borrows money to get an education and expects the general public...many of whom do NOT have a college background...to take the hit. If you're not already living in your parent's basement, move in and pay your debt.

Pretty sure my 20 yo stepdaughter is taking student loans hoping they get forgiven. She was doing her loan application and called her dad to say they wanted a name of who was responsible for paying back the loan. He asked her if she could put her name and she said “I guess so”. I’ve never been prouder of him lol. This is a guy who never says no to his girls but he had a moment of sanity.

A small part of me feels just a little bit sorry for these millions of young people who were scammed into going to college to earn degrees 85% of which don't lead to jobs able to make enough to retire this debt. This scam is perpetuated upon them and their parents by school counselors who are jealous that auto mechanics, plumbers, and electricians make way more than they ever will.

#3 should take over Jamilla's student loan so Jamilla could use her savings to buy a house. She signed a Student Loan Promissory Note, a contract with the FED, "to suck it up" and PAY no matter what the economic condition or who is running the country. She should thank Doorknob Hussein for taking over the student loan from the commercial bank to avoid dealing with the gangster collection agencies.

There is no train wreck..The something-for-nothing mob signed the contracts and promised to pay their loan debts. Going back on your financial obligations is dishonorable and proves the dead-beats cannot be trusted. Here is your sign to wear: "I do not honor my solemn promise to pay my legal debts. I have no honor."

Has the Federal government EVER managed money correctly?
Everything that comes to mind concerning money and the Federal government is a Train Wreck:
-Federal Debt....$32,000,000,000,000 and counting
-Social Security..... Federal government took all the money and Spent it.... SS now has a stadium-full of Federal IOU's and is predicted to Go Broke in
what.... 10 years?
-Student Loan program.... Feds took it over just a few years ago and now it's a Dumpster Fire.
-Other Unfunded Liabilities..... I read somewhere that the Federal Government is really on the hook for something like $350,000,000,000,000.
...and the Democ'RATS insist on spending Money like Water.
Lady Thatcher said "Socialism is Fine..... until you Run Out of Other People's Money to Spend."
Vladimir Lenin said "The Surest Way to Attack the Capitalist State is to Debauch the Currency."

What is sad is for the last three years a borrower could still make payments. These loans were in a non-accrual status. So any payments made would go against the loan with no interest charges. These alleged college educated folks had the opportunity to pay down a portion of their debt interest free. Of course they thought Biden was going to forgive their debts so why bother.

I paid for all my grad school expenses 100% myself by working two jobs, and additional job in the summer. I never even considered loans. If I was short on money...I got some work repairing cars for a bit, or other odd jobs. I pieced it all together from mechanic work, gas station work, construction work and working for the university as a research assistant.
I was fortunate that my parents could afford the $2250 total per year that my undergrad education cost. Anything that went over that, I paid from my summer jobs earnings, or I did without. Driving a worn out 12 year old VW gave me plenty of time to learn to repair my car using used parts from a junkyard because new parts were just out of reach in cost.
