Two of Europe’s largest energy firms are pivoting from green energy back to their core oil and gas businesses, a move that industry experts tell the Daily Caller News Foundation signals a willingness to take political hits as oil and gas continue to be major sources of revenue.
Both Shell and fellow U.K. energy firm BP opted against further cuts to oil production recently, in a bid to restore investor confidence as their renewable ventures struggled, according to Bloomberg. While the moves were met with criticism from climate-focused investors — activist investors and protestors attempted to storm the stage at Shell’s annual shareholder meeting in late May — the companies are

Oil and natural gas WORK....and they work 24/7.
All this Green-Whacko nonsense fake energy is at best intermittent and at worse....none available for DAYS at a time. Cloudy and no wind? Well, too bad - no power. And on top of that, this ultra unreliable crap "energy" is also ultra expensive.
Pay more, get less.
Back to coal for base load. Or start building a lot more nuclear power stations and RECYCLING the 'spent' fuel.....which still has 99% of the energy in it. Greenies are for recycling, RIGHT?
Recycle nuclear fuel rods....make more fuel rods, make more power.

Oh, and buy the way...what is the pretty normal weather in the northern half of Europe most days of the year? Cloudy and overcast. Great for those solar panels....right? NOT.

It was absurd naivety and ignorance to ever pivot away from oil and gas. That is like Hershey is not going to make chocolate. Your leadership is screaming for replacement!

all those liberals who seem to love Europe and its ideas need to read more international news. They have no abortions after 15 to 20 weeks. They are banning "gender conforming" drugs and surgery for children. They are now backtracking on "green energy". So it would seem that they are retreating from all the idiotic policies that the democrats are still pushing hard.y

Culture for the most part helps a nation maintain the good of a nation.
Politicians would have us stupid folk believe that the politicians are doing us a favor. They are not.

The US has shown a remarkable inability to learn from the mistakes of other nations, whether by incompetence or design. I don't expect that to change anytime soon, if at all.

This is just a wild guess, but maybe Shell and BP didn't want their families standing on street corners begging alms. There hasn't been enough time for them to learn the American way of food stamp fraud in time for the coming winter.

"we’re responding to what society wants"
Translation from politic speak: Green energy is the failure that we always knew it would be but played along with the politicians until our bottom line impact became crippling.
Energy isn't a popularity contest, like what clothes are in style. If every person on the planet WANTED 100% green energy, it wouldn't matter because green energy is boutique, small scale and pricey. There are some circumstances where green energy might be competitive, perhaps even the best choice. But green energy cannot be a mass supplier of our energy needs. It isn't reliable, it is costly, and there is no practical way, for many reasons, to scale it up to provide ALL power.
“Fossil fuels are currently, and the evidence suggests they will be for the foreseeable future a significant and important part of energy production in the US and across the world.”
“The EU’s oil majors ... are faced with the reality that renewables produce little energy at a high cost.”
The unvarnished TRUTH, not demented Biden think.
Even if human caused "warming" wasn't a farce foisted on us to destroy the US, capitalism, and the freedom of the individual, green energy can NOT be the solution. If there IS a "warming" problem, there currently is NO real ultimate solution. Pretending green energy is a solution prevents us from addressing other REAL energy advancements, like modern nuclear power plants.

Energy companies are pivoting back to oil because there are no realistic alternatives. These companies have known this all along but were playing the climate change game because of the politics. Ignore the crazies. They’re clueless.

The easiest solution - - - -
Develop solar panels which work at night. Then we'll never have to worry - - ever again - - about energy sources.
If I can think of these simple solutions - - why can't the so-called "energy scientists"?

What's really pathetic is how weak minded and illiterate these climate activists are. While these fools go out there and protest people like John Kerry and Al Gore are living like kings. While they dine on lobster and filet these climate change morons are eating bugs and grass. You wanna see dumb, try talking to someone who believes we can control the climate. Total whack jobs...

Even the gas and oil companies know President Trump is coming back and are preparing for his return...energy independence is just around the corner and they know it....so Kerry can hang up his traveling shoes...the time is closing in on greenies....and china is gonna be stuck with lots of batteries....and Germany many solar panels....bring it on!!

Oil and gas are good because they produce CO2 which is plant food. Maybe then we will not need Russia fertilizer to feed our 8 billion people. Global warming is a hoax. Photosynthesis clears out CO2 and generates all our Oxygen, while water vapor cools the planet. Science became political for Globalism.
