In his victory speech after winning a second gubernatorial term in November, Republican Ron DeSantis proclaimed his state of Florida is where “woke goes to die.” He’s been at war with the ideology since his first term, taking on some of the most powerful organizations, businesses and politicians in the country promoting it and trying to spread the woke virus to our children. He’s most famously been at odds with Disney, which has increasingly injected woke messaging into its content marketed for America’s kids.
The liberal media scoffed. No one’s pushing woke. He’s fighting a made-up enemy. It’s baloney — and Disney just proved it. In a sinister cartoon

In her Republican rebuttal to the State of the Union address Tuesday, newly elected Arkansas governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the Biden administration has been hijacked by the woke left, fostering an absurd political environment in which “the choice is between normal or crazy.”
Sanders, who previously served as press secretary to former president Trump, began her speech by drawing a generational juxtaposition with Biden, noting that, at 40, she’s the youngest sitting governor, while Biden is the oldest ever sitting president.
“I’m the first woman to lead my state. And he’s the first man to surrender his presidency to a woke mob that can’t even tell you what woman is,”

During his State of the Union Address Tuesday night, President Joe Biden cast the recent downing of a suspected Chinese spy balloon as a signal of American resolve, despite the fact that the balloon was not shot down until a week after it entered U.S. airspace and days after it was allowed to hover over sensitive military facilities in Montana.
America is currently “in the strongest position in decades to compete with China or anyone else in the world,” Biden said before a joint session of Congress.
“But make no mistake: as we made clear last week, if China’s threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country.

Somehow, the weirdest thing that happened at the State of the Union was not Joe Biden proclaiming that he’ll veto any legislation that raises the cost of “frisizhnjubs,” a line I’m still trying to figure out.
Instead, it involved a pre-speech kiss delivered by Jill Biden to Kamala Harris’ husband, Douglas Emhoff. Honestly, I have no idea what happened here. When I first saw that, I tried to rationalize it. Maybe non-family members kiss on the lips like that routinely and I just missed it all this time. But the more I think about it, the more I don’t think I missed it. Rather, it’s just incredibly strange.

Artificial Intelligence is a finicky thing. You can program it with an algorithm that makes it take on your point of view in conversations, sure, but the point of AI is for a created intelligence to operate independently. At some point, someone will find a way to make that artificial intelligence begin speaking for itself if it truly is an independent intelligence. Which is exactly what happened to ChatGPT.
For those unfamiliar with ChatGPT, it’s an AI advanced enough to write so succinctly and intelligently that it can pass legal exams from law schools. Its existence has created such a worry about education

Oh, my, gosh. I am enjoying Kevin McCarthy’s short rule as Speaker so much more than I ever thought I would! He has been the best, most delightful surprise so far and I am praying he keeps this up.
This latest stand of his is a perfect example. To be fair, McCarthy was warning the Chamber they were in his black books long before his agonizing marathon election to Speaker took place.
House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy is telling U.S. Chamber of Commerce board members and state leaders the organization must undertake a complete leadership change and replace current president and CEO Suzanne Clark, Axios has learned.

A suspected Chinese spy balloon that the U.S. military shot down off the Carolina coast last week was part of a larger surveillance program run by the People’s Liberation Army, according to a new report.
The program has collected information on military assets in a number of countries, including Japan, India, Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines, U.S. officials reportedly told the Washington Post.
One official called the scheme a “massive effort” by China using an “unbelievably old technology” that it joined with “modern communications and observation capabilities” in an effort to gather intelligence on other countries’ militaries.

In the lead up to a likely reelection announcement this spring, President Joe Biden is expected to use his State of the Union speech tonight to try to reframe his presidency, and to paint himself as a moderate, a uniter, and a consensus builder rather than as a partisan fighter and one of the most left-wing presidents in modern times.
Biden will likely continue to highlight his administration’s bipartisan successes — including the $1.2 billion infrastructure bill he signed in November 2021 — and to tout the progress of his so-called “unity agenda,” a four-part agenda that he believes Americans from across the ideological spectrum can agree on — ending cancer,

A fire from the battery of an electrical device aboard a United Airlines flight forced a Newark-bound plane to return to San Diego on Tuesday and sent four people to the hospital, officials say.
The flight crew aboard United Flight 2664 prevented the fire from spreading further, and the plane returned to the airport, according to a tweet from the San Diego Fire Department.
Emergency personnel responded and are currently treating passengers, said San Diego International Airport (SAN) spokesperson Sabrina LoPiccolo in a phone interview with CNN. Fire crews evaluated all passengers and crew, and four people were taken to the hospital. Two others declined further treatment

BP has scaled back its climate ambitions as it announced that annual profits more than doubled to $28bn (£23bn) in 2022 after a sharp increase in gas prices linked to the Ukraine war boosted its earnings.
In a move that will anger campaigners, the oil and gas giant cut its emissions pledge and plans a greater production of oil and gas over the next seven years compared with previous targets.
The huge annual profit led to renewed calls for a toughened windfall tax, as oil companies reap rewards from higher gas prices while many households and businesses struggle to cope with a sharp rise in energy bills.

London - Tens of thousands of nurses and nearly 12,000 ambulance workers went on strike Monday over pay and working conditions in the biggest walkout in the 75-year history of Britain's National Health Service (NHS).
Escalating industrial action comes after years of falling wages, stretched budgets and staff shortages that have left the NHS in a state of crisis, with waiting times for treatment at a record high. At the same time, an aging population needs its services more than ever.
That unhappy mix is fueling a boom in demand for private health care from a much broader swathe of the UK population than ever before — a fundamental shift

A US military intelligence report from last year that focused on China’s use of high-altitude balloons mentioned sightings in Hawaii and Florida during the Trump presidency, according to an excerpt of the report reviewed by CNN.
The April 2022 report, titled “People’s Republic of China High-Altitude Balloon,” found a Chinese spy balloon “circumnavigated the globe” in 2019 – while Donald Trump was president – at an altitude of roughly 65,000 feet, and “drifted past Hawaii and across Florida before continuing its journey,” the US Air Force document states.
The Air Force intelligence report is the first indication that the US military was aware of Chinese spy balloons well before the latest incident.
