The House Speaker Vote -- Embarrassment, Indeed

Original Article

Yesterday the NY Times printed an op-ed by communications consultant Brendan Buck, who previously worked for former Speakers of the House John Boehner and Paul Ryan. You think Mr. Buck has a vested interest in seeing Kevin McCarthy named speaker? Before I comment on Buck’s essay, a word about “communications consultants” -- several decades ago I worked for a large southern utility in their Communications Office. I was among several selected to be a Media Liaison, the person who issued information to the public/media in case of a catastrophic event that impacted the electrical grid, a nuclear plant, etc. One of the top communication consultant

Good article. The problem is that most of the Republicans are already feeling the pressure of the lie that the world and all hope will end if McCarthy does not win. The bloated fiefdom of DC has so isolated itself from the will of the people that common sense arguments of why McCarthy should NOT be Speaker, are treated as radical and dangerous.

This article raises some very good points. It somewhat changes the perspective I had on this. The most horrifying part is that until they elect a Speaker we still have a Democrat in charge. This needs to be resolved quickly.

The power play we are witnessing in the House is actually decades n the making. Voters have finally got enough conservatives in the Rebublican party to challenge the near century old RINO/Establishment complex. This represents a growing shift in the power dynamics of the Rebublican party. Obviously the RINO/Establishment wing of the Rebublican party is fighting hard against its own party to the extent that they now ally with the Dem party. It is sad but necessary change.

Until 1 October 2023, there is nothing a Republican House can do about anything with or without McCarthy as Speaker as McConnell and 18 other Republican Senators betrayed their constituents and voted for the Omnibus budget bill effectively tying the hands of a Republican House by not being able to not fund the DOJ or the FBI. They actually received budget increases in the Omnibus. In addition, I know that without a Speaker, some of the committees are being delayed getting formed, etc. but does anyone think the Biden DOJ is going to enforce any subpoenas that any Republican lead committee issues?

This is nothing more than a "term of service" negotiation. McCarthy will win of course but the group of 12 will get some concessions. For example, why are thirty bills about Section 230 gathering dust because, even when the Rs were in the majority, leadership would never allow them to go to the floor for a vote. So the 12 may get a procedural system in the R caucus that would allow the R caucus to overrule the Speaker's hold on legislation. There is a lot going on. It's ugly but necessary.

I wonder if the 200 plus so-called republicans have even a small inkling that electing corrupt, deep state, stealth democrat McCarthy will in the end result in the death knell of the republican party? It cannot be business as usual for the republicans in Congress that includes China Mitch, I hate the republican voters, continuing on as Minority Leader in the Senate. Our Republic has no chance of revival if we keep electing traitorous republican.

I put my faith in God not any party. Both parties have major problems. They are corrupt and what really needs to get solved never does. Two items as examples are: spending and the border. You can see what a mess both are with runaway spending and a border that is open to all.

Barbara Walters died last week at 93, but the legendary journalist’s legacy lives on: “The View,” the daytime-TV talker she created in 1997, is the most-watched — and most-talked-about — show in its genre. Some legacy, though: What Walters envisioned as “women of different generations, backgrounds and views” discussing “the topics of the day, mixing humor with intelligent debate,” devolved after she departed as co-host in 2014 into a four-against-one daily catfight with few laughs and even fewer smarts. The New York Times calls it “the most important political TV show in America.” If so, America is in trouble — because “The View” is the biggest source of misinformation in the country.

I plead with all, all of my Republican colleagues, let cooler, more rational heads prevail. Let us unite as Republicans to elect the next speaker of the House,” said Davidson.
