The U.S. Census Bureau reported Thursday that 300,000 people left California in 2022, more than left any other state, amid a general slow increase in the U.S. population as the country recovered from COVID-19.
The estimates cover the period from July 2021 to July 2022.
It was the third consecutive annual decline for California, the Sacramento Bee noted, though births outnumbered deaths.
The U.S. population grew by about 1.3 million people, thanks largely to the arrival of over 1 million migrants:
After a historically low rate of change between 2020 and 2021, the U.S. resident population increased by 0.4%, or 1,256,003, to 333,287,557 in 2022,

Woot! That's me! I made it out!
Haven't been this happy and stress free in my entire adult life.
Still getting over how easy life is outside California. I've got California PTSD but recovering.

I can’t imagine why anybody is still living in California. Leave it to the homeless, illegals, and idiot entertainers. Just please don’t bring your liberal loving ideas to my State. It’s bad enough already.

I am also guessing that most of those leaving were productive, tax payers. CA will eventually go bankrupt but, unfortunately, the rest of the country will be forced to bail them out.

Yeah, we got an upstate New York transplant living here in a red state. Social media posts indicate they're just another airheaded twit who will not likely be changing the way they voted while in New York.

And how many were unrepentant leftists bringing their destructive ideas and voting patterns with them to other states? I don't know, but certainly a lot of them, although perhaps most were conservatives fleeing the insanity and terrible business climate.

#6 - Not all of California is San Francisco or LA. Living in the rural areas is quite pleasant and the weather is fabulous (mid-80's here on Christmas Day). That being said, we're off to retirement in Florida in three years. As for the headline, that's 300,000 people with common sense who moved out - the dem politicians here love it!

To all you folks fretting that the California refugees will bring their bad habits to your state, look what happened in Florida.
We had the same fear (and it really was fear) that the northerners moving here would destroy us. But we went from purple to dark red. So I’ll pray you’re as lucky as we were.
P.S. I think it helps if your state has a governor that the libs detest.

Yes, they are being replaced by illegals, true enough, but California is losing its tax base. The state will look to the rest of us for bailouts, and handouts. The new Congress needs to just say no.

We've had our share of Leftist Morons from Californication come to Texas. In one council meeting in a small town the Lefty tried to make points of order to get his proposal consideration...that was until the Mayor shut him down. You have no standing here, your point of order is not accepted. Try to play your game in California when you get back there!

Left in 2019 and never looked back. Problem is they vote Democrat after they arrive never learned a thing. Stay in CA until you learn the reason you had to move and then vote accordingly.

Point well taken - it was not the bums on the exodus caravan. Someday the camel's back will break.
