A court has ordered an airline to pay for therapy for a Brazilian plus-sized model who claimed she was stopped from boarding a flight 'because she was too big for her seat'.
Social media influencer Juliana Nehme, 38, claimed earlier this year that she was stopped from boarding a Qatar Airways flight because she was too large and accused the middle eastern airline of discriminating against her due to her size.
In a post to her 167,000 Instagram followers, Juliana said at the time: 'They are denying my right to travel... I'm desperate, help me, they don't want me to board because I'm fat.'
Now a court in Sao Paulo has ordered

Next she'll be suing Victoria's Secret because they don't make lingerie her size. Admittedly, $3000 pounds is chump change to Qatar Air but can you imagine having bought the seat next to her?

Well, she is too big for a typical airline seat.

At 6 foot 2 inches, I'm not a small guy and, truth be told, I'm older and have had 40+ years of the best cooking ever from my wife... but I was amazed at the large... trunks on passengers of a couple flights I took earlier this month. There didn't seem to be a problem with the... well fed ladies who boarded the flights I was on.
On my return flight, I was contacted and offered a chance for a hefty paycheck if I was 'flexible' in my flight plans. Overbooked. So I was literally the last to board when enough people didn't show up for me not to get the offer and I only made the flight 'full'. I sat comfortably next to a pleasant lady (I was in the middle seat) and was surprised when she stood up to leave the plane after landing. Right there was quite a cushion if we were forced to a water landing.
I agree that this woman needs counselling/psychotherapy. But, the restaurants, cooks, food stores, and family should all be on the hook for it.

Depending on the Airline, I suspect Seats are different sizes. That said, If she wouldn't fit, she wouldn't FIT! The Airline was correct in denying her a Seat on the Flight. If she couldn't afford TWO Seats, that's not THEIR problem! She should be aware of the Seat Sized before attempting to fly. Anyone the Size she is should do their Homework before buying a Plane Ticket!

A friend who is a flight attendant has said that extremely obese people on airliners can, in emergencies, block other passengers from escaping the plane, whether down an aisle or through a knocked out window, and cause others to die. So this controversy is more than anything else a safety issue. Does someone who is gigantic sized have the "right" to a normal sized seat, when they're spilling over into another's space? I don't think so. They should be laughed out of court.
It's quite an accomplishment for this oversized "social media influencer" (why? influencing whom?) to achieve such a physique. It takes years of gluttony. And it's nothing to be proud of. What legs.

People that large should be required to purchase two seats and then be given a seat belt extender. Actually, I would go so far as to say that anyone who needs a seat belt extender should be required to purchase two seats.

She wasn't refused to fly, just pay for a seat her size. This is ridiculous. If he fat a## hangs over into my seat can I sue her for invasion of my right to privacy?

Somewhere on the tickets, there must be disclaimer stating that all ticketed passengers board and fly on their flights at the discretion of the airline and it's staff. The airline was looking g out for the safety of all passengers, including Ms. Nehme. She could use therapy, but not because of the airline.

Juliana Nehme weighs 330 lbs and is about six feet wide.
She needs psychotherapy all right. Because she thinks it's OK to be morbidly obese.

I hate it when the giant fat person next to you is slopping over into the seat area that I PAID FOR, but they are using, and causing ME to be jammed because they are a giant obese person.
In the last ten years, we have been flying first class or business class on all long haul flights, so that solves this irritation.
Expecting the rest of the world to change THEIR behavior because you are so overweight that you don't fit into the normal world is an exceptionally obnoxious attitude.
And with this "I'm the victim here" hogwash, it is even worse. The airlines should ban this person from ever flying on their aircraft, for life.

The airlines have standards for the size of carry on luggage. They need another for wide-body people. Pay for your size and even forbid some. It would be dangerous to get behind Ms. Plus-Sized during an emergency evacuation. Can she go down the inflated exit slide without collapsing it or go out a window exit?

I have to support Qatar Airlines.
Near the end of the article was
"'The passenger in question at Beirut Airport was initially extremely rude and aggressive to check-in staff when one of her travelling party did not produce required PCR documentation for entry to Brazil.
'As a result, airport security was requested to intervene as staff and passengers were extremely concerned with her behaviour.'
Why was this at the end of the article instead of in the front?

When I read Ms Nehme’s complaint as a “plus size,” “model,” I was (somewhat) sympathetic, thinking of a size-18 or maybe a little larger; but no, I was off by an order of magnitude.
How can a business accommodate every individual? It can’t.
However they can be courteous. Lack of courtesy is the only case Ms Nehme’s got. The lack of physical accommodation issue is a nonstarter.
Certain aspects of one’s own personal physicality and identity consequent upon one’s lifestyle choices would not seem to create an obligation on the part of a common carrier.

Sure, she can influence, #29 ... via negativa.
To "plus size" snowflakes, the world is not obligated to adjust everything to accommodate you, and those businesses and services who do accommodate should be entitled to charge proportionally for said accommodations. (Oversized saddle bags merit extra baggage fees.)

I consider myself overweight according to the BMI standards. I comfortably fit in the disgustingly small airline seats, I sit on the aisle, but I do not let passenger next to me overpower the arm rest or leg space or display man-spreading. I make sure I have my whole seat and area in front of me to myself that I paid for.
That female "model" is huge, over-huge, over-obese and comment about safety issue is right on. She would block everybody behind her. Don't usually vote for an airline, but in this case they are totally right.

She should book herself 2 seats and gorger herself on 2 meals. I sat next to a ton of fat on my way to Europe, and I can assure you that it is disgusting when fat molds hang over on your seat and touch your person. I believe airlines should have a section where all the fatties are placed.

She is a safety hazard, period.
Qatar Air's coach seat is 17.5-18 inches wide. They do have some planes with Business class but that is only 20 inches. First is 22 inches wide. Even in First at 22 inches, she would be overlapping but at least the person next to her would not be crowded. The comfort of ALL the passengers should be the airlines concern not the feelings of one "influencer" who should have bought herself an EXTRA SEAT next to her own. Other airlines require that.
It is not that I do not have sympathy but I have more for the people you would trap on the plane should there be an emergency and those who would have to deal with your fat rolls hanging over into their seat.

Sitting in a airplane seat and being engulfed by the passenger next to me who was twice my size, with b.o., was not pleasant. The hour flight was smelly and I felt like I was up against a wall. I was against a wall--a wall of smelly flesh. It was distressing, but I kept quiet on the plane. Now I can vent.
