A winter weather system and cold blast is set to impact nearly every state and bring what the National Weather Service is calling a 'once-in-a-generation event' to the United States - crippling travel just days before Christmas.
The strengthening storm will bring more than a foot of snow and possible blizzard conditions to the Midwest, as the weather service warns of 'life-threatening' wind chills for millions.
More than 90 million people are under winter weather alerts and more than 87 million are under wind chill alerts. The alerts stretching across 37 states, dipping as far south as the Texas/Mexico border.

I'm sorry, a foot of snow is about a 20 times in a generation event... Maybe 200 times if you live in Fargo.

This very moment I clutch my pearls in fear of global warming bringing more snow!
Every weather event is a true sign of global warming.
This very morning, the water felt a little colder when I brushed my teeth. Cause? Global warming!

Darn that Global Warming!! When I lived in Texas in the 60's, our Air Force Base was closed because of a winter storm that piled snow drifts up past the windows. My children grew up in Tidewater Virginia ice skating and sleigh riding every winter. Maybe this is happening because more and more wealthy elites are flying from state to state and from country to country on their jets. They are the ones messing with the climate. God knows what He is doing. He is in control. Maybe one day they will have to admit it. Till then, stay warm and be careful.

Back in the good old days, the weatherman and news just reported the weather forecast. A snowstorm is coming... Today, thanks to national news and technology, every time it will snow more than a few inches, the weather front gets a name and it becomes a nonstop snowmageddon of reporting. Every storm is " the worst snow event ever" ir "record breaking". Why can't winter just be winter without all of the world is ending sensalizationisn any time it snows?

I predict it won't be as bad as advertised. I believe global warming will temper the severity of this storm but just to be safe let's cancel all the flights out of O'hare a day before it arrives when the temperature is 33 degrees and wind is dead calm.

Snowpocalypse?
Once in a generation?
Snow bomb?
Cyclone?
No scare tactics there.
Just hunker down and ride the storm out.

There's a reason the eastern part of Montana, and the states of North and South Dakota aren't very populated and this storm with wind chill temps likely in -50 plus range and feet of snow is it. Where I live, it's supposed to be rain with a quick freeze when the temps drop. I can deal with snow, but ice is a different matter, and the temps are supposed to be in the low teens. Temps in the teens are way too cold for me. However, I did experience temperatures of -6 or -8 for a couple of weeks in Michigan, and surprisingly I got used to it after about a week.

Winter of 2009/2010 we had four blizzards in Northern Virginia, two of which hit us in one week. Four feet of snow and we could not get out of our driveway for 8 days. That winter we had a total of 94 inches of snow on our farm. I blamed it on the 0bama administration.

Do we have a quote from Greta or Algore yet? We need reinforcement for the reason we are spending trillions of dollars to fight global warming. Surely Justin Trudeau has some words of encouragement for us.
Not having company over this blessed holiday will give many families a chance to reflect on why they are celebrating. Hint - it's not to rip open gifts or gorge mountains of food at the table. I marvel at the crowds at the airports thinking that they will be among the few who fly on time or even fly at all. Stay home, it's not worth it. The MSM laments the harsh conditions at the border and the "abused" people who came from 80 degree climates and now must endure the cold. Same advice for them, STAY HOME.

Isn't this just another "polar vortex" that happens all of the time?
It's forecast to be a relatively dry system but very cold, like the one that froze all the windmills in Texas recently. I hope they have better prepared this time.

We were supposed to get snowmagddon! here and it turned out to be a big nothing burger. We got maybe an inch or two of snow, but the panic buying at the grocery store was ridiculous. I’m so tired of these hysterical weather forecasts and all the silliness that comes with it.

Polar Vortex better know a Winter season. Has a name been given to this cold snap? Maybe a gender-neutral name to be politically correct.

Boy, I am so glad this "snow bomb cyclone" is coming! If so, I couldn't stand any more global warming. I guess all the restrictions on fossil fuel and wonderful wind mills are having their intended effect. The problem is that until it warms up the windmills will freeze and the batteries in the cars won't work too well.

Over 100 inches in 3 days in Northern Arizona, 1967. I was at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff at the time. Good times. And if I remember correctly, it was close to Christmas.

Oh fer Chrissake. Yes, it’s 14 below in Denver. But by Christmas Day it will be 52 degrees again, and the two inches of snow that fell from this “monster” storm will be gone.
Lighten up, folks. It’s winter.

Perhaps they mean fruit fly generations.
BTW, in Atlanta no precipitation but cold down to about 10F. Happens about once or twice EVERY year. No big deal. It's the kind of freeze we prepare for every year. We call it a hard freeze. Cold enough to freeze the outside faucets. That's why we cut off the water to the faucets and put those styrofoam things over them.
