The US military may get woker.
A new report has advised the US Marine Corps to no longer use “gendered terms” such as “Yes Sir or Yes Ma’am”.
The new academic report stemmed from research conducted by the University of Pittsburgh that was directly commissioned by the Marine Corps.
The report claims the Marine Corps is behind other branches of the military when it comes to using gender identifiers.
The report also states the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard have, for the most part, gotten rid of gender identifiers such as “Sir” and “Ma’am” but instead address drill instructors by their rank and last name.

If the worst thing you are called in life is Sir or Ma'am, you have no reason for complaint.

Presently
Present day: Drill sergeant: "Are you an unmitigated waste of our time? "No sir"
Future day: Drill sergeant: "Are you an unmitigated waste of our time? "No Master Sergeant Brontenski and I do not appreciate you hurting my feelings.

As an old Marine, all I can say is " The Corps. has. . ."

I know three fairly recently retired Marines, two sergeants major and one master sgt. They are overjoyed at being out. The corps ain't what it used to be and will never be what it was... tough, loyal, deadly. Those days are long gone.

Nothing other than "sir" should be needed. I'll go put on my own blindfold for the firing squad now.

Granted, I have had no direct contact with the United States Marines in my life. But it would seem to me as an observer that a Marine drill sergeant would have little difficulty making his/her self understood as to their preferred form of address?

They are no longer a Killing Machine. They'll be trained to HUG their enemy to death.

That’s a worry to our Marines? Surely you jest. Only to the pampered Pentagon princes.

A deliberate effort to destroy our military from within. I can only imagine what our old Gunnery Sgt. Lee Ermey would have to say about this. It would not be family friendly words. Maybe best he is gone. RIP Gunny.

I think of the Marines as able to protect the Nation efficiently & with devastation if needed. They stand a little taller than other the branches. Dont tell me they are being turned into snowflakes.

A needless distraction. Let my Marine Corps focus on continuing to train our recruits to be the finest fighting force on this or any other planet without this change. Oh, and if any ivory tower wuss wants to "discuss" it, I would be happy to "educate" him, or her, using the sole of my spit shined boot applied to the most intelligent part of their anatomy.

I’m guessing they’ll be replaced with something such as…Yo! or Sup?

It is a recommendation that is being rejected by the Marine Corps. The report made over a dozen that won't be implemented. Nothing to see here.

I recommend the generic she / he / it. It works on All Occasions and if you say it fast enough you can relieve some of the anger you may be having.

the "Corps" will never be the same so ... does that mean that all Officers will no longer be addressed as "Sir" or "Ma'am in all branches of the service?, including General level ranks?

Stupid idea. This has to be a joke. Before addressing an officer one needs to interpret their rank, find a name tag, and develop a pronunciation for that name. None of those are easy. Our XO was always irked by the Navy calling him lieutenant (two silver bars in the Navy).

Considered, but rejected were: Kimosabe and effendi. They settle on 'Exalted One'.
