Stanford University has published an index of 'harmful language' that it wants to eliminate because the terms are 'ableist, ageist or racist' — including the word American — as it calls for US citizen to be used instead.
The University revealed the plan in May, and wants to remove the words from its IT systems and websites, with grandfather, brave and master are also on the list.
The Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative will also aim to educate people about the impact that 'racist, violent and biased' words have.
It has listed 10 sections where 'harmful' language can occur under the headings:

Next they’ll say “US citizen” discriminates against non-citizens in the US. Why can’t we call people from Central or South America Central Americans and South Americans?

The more of this they do, the more I want to frame Jim Crow era pictures of kids with watermelons and ones being used to bait alligators.

Picking at nits here, but when in blazes did “ableist” become a word? The entire program is absurd. Stanford should be ashamed of themselves.

Personally, I try to NOT use those trite idioms that Stanford is making an intentional attempt to ban. "White Paper" is one of those terms which really annoys me. I was asked to write some "White Papers" for our professional organization once.
I think an academic institution SHOULD avoid using lame idioms .... like "killing two birds with one stone" (another annoying one).... We SHOULD use words properly.

Control the language and you control the people. The left has absolutely gone mad and want to drag the rest of us with them. If we are to be a free people, we must reject censorship. What makes these fools believe that they have the power to decide what words are or are not worthy to use? They will continue this power grab as long as we let them. I don’t know about you, but I am sick of this tyranny.

I see a 2-part solution to our current problems. 1st, we should all wear burkhas to hide our identity. This will immediately end racism and all types of prejudice because nobody will know who or what anybody is. Additionally, we need to burn all of our dictionaries because words no longer have any general acceptable meanings. So we should just shut up and become OneWorld government-endorsed equal UNITS working feverishly together to save the planet from one crisis after another. Don't ask any questions; don't look up. Vee vill tell you vhat vee vant you to know, weech ees nathseeng. Achtung.

Stanford published the index and the backlash was so severe that they have now taken it out of public circulation. But they will still try to enforce it.
It only applies to students, faculty and administration at the school so the proper response from the rest of us is GFY.

The origin of "white paper" has nothing to do with race, just as the origin of "niggardly" has nothing to do with race. These people are ignorant.

My American grandfather, a brave man, could, via a brilliant white paper, master any situation using a minimum of man hours thereby killing two birds with one stone: pissing off Democrats and making egghead at Stanford look like imbeciles.

It's US of A, or USA. The A is important. So much so that we don't call ourselves Unitedens or Statesians or USers. A park in USA is an American park. It's not easy describing it a different way.
If asked what nationality I am, I don't mind saying that I'm a legal citizen of the USA.

While North America is a continent, The United States of America is a country. There is no such country in South or Central America that uses " America " as part of its name. You're a citizen of the USA, then you're an AMERICAN. The woke hate America first crowd can go and ,....well, you know.

My American grandfather was brave, mastered his passions, and was able to cultivate a life of decency that honored truth, life, duty, and liberty. Google Facebook Youtube, braindead Stanford wokesters; you and your idiotic Ivy League role models.

Dear Stanford:
I’m an “American” “grandfather” who lives in house with a lovely “master” bedroom. We call it the “Pocahontas” room because of the décor we selected – we call the den (my man cave) the “Chief” because I’m a fireman. We recently aborted a trip to Vermont – too many white women named “Karen” living there, making it confusing distinguishing one women from another. Instead, we visited my uncle in Abilene who greeted us with a hearty “Long time no see!” He’s a fine man, devoting his life to rescuing “child prostitutes” and saving them from “committing suicide.” His own child is a high achieving high school ”freshman”. His wife, is a second term “congresswoman.” Sadly, our family isn’t perfect, with some “black sheep” roaming idly, putting a “black mark” on our familial history. We just “pulled the trigger” on a canoe we’ll use on the lake that’s near the vacation home we just bought – “killing two birds with one stone” on a longtime dream we’ve had. I’d like to write more. But running out of “whitespace.” I’ll get back to you, soon.

My viewership of Fox News has gone down ever since they got rid of Bill O'Reilly. Tucker is good but Bill had a snap to his show. I heard about this one Jesse Watters show which I'm starting to like. I was doing my husbandly cooking for the kids while the wife works late duties, and I nearly dropped my frying pan from running to turn up the TV. Jessie was his old funny but serious at the same time self as he went through the litany of the stupidity from Stanford. Both of my grandpa's (God rest their souls) would've slapped me silly if I called them legacy. Both who were very brave during Also, in my house I sleep in the master bedroom, have a black board in my den and hate White noise. The Karens and Kelvins at Stanford need to quit getting triggered.

included in the documents is American as a 'harmful language'. Just shut up and let people talk the way they want to, excluding foul language. The university left out foul language as 'harmful language'. Colleges and universities should be about education instead of making harmful speech lexicons.
