Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega on Sunday said his country is moving toward not holding a presidential election next year, appearing to maintain his shared control over the country with his co-president and wife, Rosario Murillo. Ortega said at a government rally marking the 47th anniversary of the Sandinista revolution’s takeover of the country that there “won’t be any more elections here for them to try to seize the government and seize power,” according to a translation of the rally from Reuters. “The days when parties backed by the Yankees and the Somocistas would return to power are over –— never again,”

The only hope for Nicaragua may be for Ortega and his wife to share a prison cell with Venezuela's Maduro.

A software error in New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle System led to about four hundred non-citizens voting several years ago, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill announced on Tuesday. The error, which occurred under Governor Phil Murphy, added about 6,600 individuals to voter rolls even though they had indicated that they were not citizens. Sherrill’s announcement comes as Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin alleged that New Jersey had tens of thousands of non-citizens on its voter rolls last week.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels declared a “maritime embargo” against Saudi Arabia on Monday, marking a sharp departure from the “stay on the sidelines” policy the Houthis have observed since the first round of U.S.-Iran hostilities last summer. This escalation threatens Red Sea shipping routes and an additional challenge to global energy supplies. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree announced the embargo in a televised statement, saying: The Yemen armed forces affirm their complete readiness for all options and that any foolishness committed by the reckless Saudi enemy through a full-scale escalation, we will confront with a full-scale and harsh escalation by God's will and power.

I've said before that I don't like using the term "progressive" to describe the Democrat Party, its ideology, or its positions. Why? Because it suggests improvement or progress. At the very least, it's a poor euphemism, but it's more deliberately deceptive if you ask me. “By calling itself progressive,” it implies every position it takes is a positive one. Sorry, I can't do that. CNN’s Van Jones noted this very thing earlier this week. The commentator and former Obama administration official argued that Democratic Socialists of America-aligned candidates and their agenda are "regressive," not “progressive.” Jones warned that the party's drift toward socialism, hostility toward police, and open contempt for Israel

After eight nights of pounding by American forces, Iran is reeling. But the beating they are taking is all out of proportion to what they are dishing out. Now there's an indication that the biggest rats may be leaving this sinking ship. There are reports from an "Israeli security source," quoted in the Times of Israel, that the so-called Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, may have left Iran, destination unknown. Stavridis said Iran is “adaptive” in fighting the war with the U.S. and suggested that they are watching Ukraine’s actions “very closely.” “They’re watching what’s happening very closely in Ukraine, or they are kind of playing the part of the Ukrainians, using innovation

On Sunday, a new report came out that, among Saturday night's targets in Iran hit by American attacks, there was a strike against a nuclear facility under construction, that being what is called the Darkhovin facility. The Iranian government is said to be "furious." Good. This is a military target, no matter what Iran has to say about it. This is precisely the kind of target American forces should be razing to the ground. Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, in its outrage, is again dissembling; nothing this regime does is peaceful or has an entirely peaceful purpose. The U.S. and Iran are back to bombing every day in a bid to control the Strait of Hormuz. And neither is backing down, showing the limitations of President Donald Trump’s reliance on escalating airstrikes to bend Tehran to his will. While the Trump administration says it is open to diplomacy, Iran so far has refused to loosen its grip over the crucial oil shipping corridor in the Persian Gulf. It is raising questions about the strategy for the next phase of the conflict as intensifying attacks have collapsed an interim ceasefire deal, left additional American troops dead and sent U.S. gasoline prices back up —

For more than a decade, the state of Alaska has been trying to permanently forfeit Ken Jouppi’s $95,000 airplane after he transported a passenger carrying a six-pack of beer. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to decide whether it can. For decades, Ken flew his Cessna across the Alaskan wilderness, shuttling the locals. Then, in 2012, state troopers found some Budweiser tucked in a passenger’s luggage. Ken and the passenger were charged with misdemeanors, fined $1,500 and sentenced to three days in jail. But that wasn’t enough for Alaska. For the past 14 years, the state has fought to take Ken’s plane too, as additional punishment for a passenger’s beer.
