We are the oldest continuous democracy in the modern world. In large part, this is because our founders were the products of the Enlightenment who fashioned a written Constitution, which provides both freedom to citizens and checks and balances to restrain those in power. Massive celebrations are called for, with big ships, flyovers, and the largest ever fireworks display in the cleaned-up National Mall. It’s extremely hot, but that doesn’t seem to have dampened enthusiasm, and crowds have been large at scheduled events.

Clarice, you are a most wonderful writer, but, we are NOT a democracy. Never have we been one. We are a Constitutional Republic. And, hopefully, we can keep it that way.

Let's hope that Iran remains a pariah for a long time. The lack of funds will keep them from rebuilding, although you can bet they will prioritize weapons with whatever monies they can pull together. If that happens, RInse & Repeat.

Written Constiituion is so important! Rees-Mogg did a Youtube yesterday, talking about how many parts of the Bill of Rights were ideas almost word for word from the UK, but that their permanence faded, and of all things, 2A was one of them! And that it was from a document of 1689 and it concerned a Protestant militia which in the background was envisioned as fending off Catholic tyranny. Being Catholic, Rees-Mogg could recall that I can too. i loved that anecdote because it shows every single thing is God's design. Our 2A is the direct consequence of people being fearful of Mary Tudor, which is silly but it shows, errors have their place in the great design. maybe Mamdani will be the very one who sets an example that fends off something awful 2 centuries hence. Our efforts matter but it is His design in the end.

Recently, we’ve had a lot of discussion about racial relations, and the consensus from left to right seems constant and uniform that they’re getting much worse. There were two or three iconic events this last week that emphasized that pessimism. One was the Juneteenth celebration in Chicago, which commemorated the official end of slavery in the 1860s and is now our newest national holiday. It ended up with 39 people wounded, seven dead, semiautomatic gunfire. It was almost like a war zone. The mayor of Chicago, Mayor [Brandon] Johnson, did not comment on what was the cause of this or the pathologies that would lead people to slaughter.

President Trump warned Friday that communism poses a “mortal threat” to the country during a speech at Mount Rushmore on the eve of America’s 250th birthday. “As we approach this magnificent anniversary, we see our American identity under a renewed attack,” Trump said in his remarks in South Dakota. “A generation after we fought and won the Cold War against the menace of communism, there is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land, including from newcomers to our country who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life and our great success,” the president continued.

Iran saw Trump's turn-around on permission to have ballistic missiles and... must have thought, "Why not nuclear weapons too?" The goal seems to be to outlast the current US administration and then openly march toward nuclear bombs. One look at Libya and Ukraine, which gave up their nuclear weapons with catastrophic results, and then at North Korea, which did not, tells the regime everything it needs to know. A nuclear deterrent is the ultimate insurance for survival -- and expansion. This critical moment is not helped by wishful thinking. Flawed agreements, or even ones that look firm, will simply wait until the US has turned its attention somewhere else.

In this year that we celebrate 250 years since the Declaration of Independence—and the ensuing U.S. Constitution and unprecedented national prosperity—it is vital that Americans understand the evil roots of the communist movement that is seeking to supplant our nation’s birthright of liberty. The biblical account of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4 provides a profound archetype for the destructive power of envy—the emotional and spiritual engine behind revolutionary ideologies. The biblical warning remains as relevant in 2026 as it was in the beginning: rule over the sin crouching at the door, or it will rule over you.

The Trump administration is set to cut subsidies for new solar and wind power projects on Saturday. Estimates suggest the subsidies have cost taxpayers more than $141 billion over the past 16 years, more than any other energy source. The Working Families Tax Cuts, a signature piece of President Trump's tax legislation signed a year ago, set Saturday as the deadline for federal tax credit subsidies on any new solar or wind projects not currently under construction. U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright touted the subsidy deadline and criticized solar and wind energy projects in a video posted to social media Thursday.

There are a couple of more intense columns that I had planned on writing, but now that we are this close to the big America 250 party I'm overwhelmed by the mood to churn out "Yay USA!" content. I am forever grateful that I write for a company and an audience that's perfectly OK with that. Let's clear up the headline first. People who read everything literally are going to struggle with it, of course. I'm obviously alluding to the lack of air conditioning back in the Old World.

President Trump brushed off questions about the money he’s made while in office, saying his sons run his businesses and that he didn’t know about the lucrative crypto investments that netted him over a billion dollars. “I’ve always made money,” he told CNBC, pointing to his past career. “I’m a business person. I’m a really good business person. I made money. I made a tremendous amount of money.” Others invest his income, and he doesn’t know who they are, he noted. “I let people invest it. I don’t even speak to – I don’t even know who they are,” he said. “My son Eric handles it.

On Sunday, Wesley Memorial Methodist Church in High Point, North Carolina, could have become a part of an expanding group: churches targeted for violent attack, vandalism and protests. Thanks to an observant and quick-thinking individual and an off-duty cop, this attack was thwarted. What in the world?! What mayhem did Milliken have planned? Was he targeting someone specific or did he just want to cause as much destruction as possible? From what was found on him after the arrest (see below), that last inquiry is a good supposition.

A little over a week ago, several Antifa terrorists were sentenced to a collective 450 years in prison. One of them, the convicted ringleader of the 2025 ambush of an ICE detention facility that saw a law enforcement officer get shot, received a century behind bars. The shortest sentence was 30 years. Antifa and their Leftist allies in the Democratic Party were not happy about these sentences. They really believed they were above the law, and are threatening the federal judges who put their comrades behind bars. More Antifa terrorists were sentenced today. Andy Ngo,

It’s been a good couple of weeks at the Supreme Court for gun-rights advocates. In United States v. Hemani, a unanimous Court held that the Federal government may not disarm habitual drug users, while in Wolford v. Lopez, the Court ruled 6-3 that a Hawaii law which required gun-owners to seek express authorization from property owners before carrying handguns on private property open to the public was similarly unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. While gun owners will no doubt welcome these decisions, court-watchers, constitutional scholars, and lower-court judges seeking clarification on the Court’s “history and tradition” test for firearm regulations may be left feeling disappointed. In many areas of constitutional law,

The reelection of President Donald Trump came with an overall shift in the political landscape regarding climate and energy issues. Since then, major media outlets shut down their climate desks, corporations are easing back on emission-reduction targets, and polls consistently show the public rates climate change low on their list of priorities. Some figures like Curry who disputed the “climate crisis” narrative — often in the face of vitriol from those who support it —

Paul Pelosi was driving his brown convertible Friday in Yountville, a town in the heart of Wine Country, when he struck a legally parked car on the side of the road, briefly stopped and then drove away, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Peaceful demonstrations are permitted on Capitol grounds, but a protester must remain alongside a member of Congress to speak openly from the steps. Originally, Air Force Maj. Jason Watson was accompanied by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), who later left. Upon the lawmaker’s exit, Watson was directed to come off the steps or face arrest, U.S. Capitol Police told The Hill. Watson was then arrested for crowding, obstructing and incommoding, the authorities noted in a statement. “When the president of the United States orders military
