Unless, of course, you assume that gaining control of one of America's largest cities was the goal all along. The America 250 event at Mount Rushmore had some weather delays in the program because there was a giant hailstorm. I'm not sure that's what they meant when they sing "Hail to the Chief."

A Tibetan man protesting China’s occupation fatally set himself on fire outside the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan on Thursday evening, capturing the horrifying scene on livestreamed footage.

Heat and humidity as severe, prolonged and far-reaching as this week’s would have been “virtually impossible” in the Northeast and eastern Canada before humans began warming the planet, a team of scientists said on Friday.

Sen. Mitch McConnell remains hospitalized, his office said in a statement Thursday — without offering details about a recent medical episode that has renewed concern about the health of the former Republican majority leader.
McConnell “continues his recovery in the hospital” and “continues to improve,” his office said. “Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” the statement said. “The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

Kelsey Pfendler on Friday completed a 2,400-mile solo trip in a rowboat from Monterey, California, to Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii.
