HAVANA - Cuba's national electric grid collapsed on Monday, the country's grid operator said, leaving around 10 million people without power amid a U.S.-imposed oil blockade ‌that has crippled the island's already obsolete generation system. Grid operator UNE said on social media it is investigating the causes of the blackout, the latest in a series of widespread outages that last for hours or days and that this weekend sparked a rare violent protest in the communist-run country. Officials ruled out a major power plant failure, but had still not pinpointed the root cause of the grid collapse, suggesting a problem

Comments:

Pretty much everything in Cuba is old and worn out. I guess socialism isn't the paradise they promised.

The power outage is caused by the Cuban govt keeping people in the dark. How can citizens riot in the dark? Govt would rather shoot their people during daylight hours, when they're easier to see.

NEW YORK CITY – New York City will add 800 more “slow zones” capped at 15 mph by the end of the year, officials said Monday. The move will bring strict speed limits to schools across the city, increasing the number of schools with slow zones to 1,300. City officials said every eligible school across the five boroughs will receive a reduced speed limit by the end of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s first term. They described the expansion as the largest use of Sammy’s Law, which allows New York City to set its own speed limits. The law is named for

NEW YORK - A new bill could push New York City’s minimum wage as high as $30 an hour, setting the stage for one of the highest local pay floors in the nation. What we know: The proposal would require employers to pay workers at least $25 an hour if they provide qualifying benefits and $30 an hour if they do not. Lawmakers would apply the same standards to independent contractors, including those who perform work through digital labor platforms. Dig deeper: The bill directs the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to adjust the minimum pay rates each year

NEW YORK -- Both chambers of the state Legislature agree on increasing taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers and corporations, which Gov. Kathy Hochul has said she will not support. The one-house budget resolutions could raise roughly $5 billion more for the city through a mix of taxes and other state aid. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has made tax increases on the wealthiest a signature proposal, said he agrees with the move. Though their proposed tax increases are smaller than Mamdani's, they are both calling to raise a variety of taxes, including the personal income tax and the state's top corporate

The company said that the relocation will begin at the end of 2026 and last until the end of 2028. oday, most of those self-identifying as LGBTQ are young women. The growth has been dramatic. In the US, some thirty percent of Gen Z women (age 18-27) are self-identifying as LGBTQ, etc.—mainly lesbian and—compared to around 1-2% for women in the World War 2 generation. This means that almost a third of traditionally marital-age women are likely disinterested in traditional marriage. This is a significant factor in why almost half of Americans are unmarried. As a result of the decline in marriages, the American replacement rate continues its slide south of the 2.1 children per couple needed for replacement. It is now hovering at 1.6. Others in the room also found it “hilarious” and joined the president’s reaction, while one senior intelligence official “has not stopped laughing about it for days,” said one person familiar with the briefing.
