The death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US airstrike has brought new urgency to the question of who will become Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the Islamic Republic's founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, is a prominent figure in these deliberations and is seen as a relative moderate within the establishment.
Mr Khomeini, 53, holds a symbolically important role as custodian of his grandfather's mausoleum and has close ties to reformist politicians.
Some politicians inside Iran have seen him as a rival to hardliners who gained sway under Ayatollah Khamenei, notably his son, Mojtaba.

How do destructive ideas and bouts of collective madness so quickly become policy, law, and the status quo?
After all, most have little public support — and are not Western nations supposedly rationally governed?
There is usually a multi-step process on the road to these self-destructive fits of society-wide insanity.
The suicidal impulse so often begins with left-leaning researchers in elite universities (that is, the tenured in search of a novel, grant-getting theory).
They begin insisting that a new existential threat requires immediate government intervention, novel legislation, ample funding and public awareness of the impending danger.

It is a trip that had been planned for a long time, but under very different circumstances: This Monday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will depart for Washington. On Tuesday, he will meet with US President Donald Trump amid an escalating conflict in Iran and the Middle East. Merz had a range of issues with him that have been turned upside down by current events. On Sunday, Merz insisted that Germany stood behind the US and Israel. He condemned Iran's attacks on the Gulf states, US military bases and Israel.

In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's horrifying assassination on Sept. 10, I hoped that at least something good might come from it. I did see a renewed energy among conservatives, revival among young people and a message of forgiveness, the heart of Christianity, on the national stage for all to see. But in the months since he died, something else has risen up, too: Candace Owens, a former colleague of Charlie Kirk, and her ever-spiraling grift. At first, I was saddened by the grip she seemed to have on everyday conservatives, caught up in her bombastic storytelling and bizarre tendency toward conspiracy theories.

In early January, President Trump warned Iran’s Islamist government that if it killed peaceful civilians protesting the economy’s collapse, “the United States of America will come to their rescue.”
In a post on Truth Social, he declared, “We are locked and loaded and ready to go.”
Days later, when it became clear authorities and their henchmen were slaughtering thousands of unarmed protestors, Trump delivered another warning– — and a promise. After urging “Iranian Patriots” to keep protesting and “save the names of the killers and abusers, he said, “They will pay a big price” and added ominously:
“Help is on its way.”
That help arrived Saturday

The strikes President Donald Trump launched against Iran Saturday are not just military operations — they are the answer to decades of prayers by Iranians who have suffered under tyranny.
And they represent the first time an American president has truly come to the rescue of the Iranian people.
I was born and raised in Iran, where my family lived under the grip of an authoritarian theocracy. Growing up in the 1980s, my classrooms were filled with anti-Western indoctrination and “Death to America” chants. Yet to most of us, America was a symbol of justice and freedom from fear.

To see just what lunacy is in store for the nation if Democrats flip the House in November’s midterm elections, consider Tuesday night’s “State of the Swamp” rally, “counterprogramming” President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech.
Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) gave Dems’ public-facing reply, but the party’s true heart was on display at the event sponsored by the Democratic National Committee-associated Defiance.org.
They’re revving up the old #Resistance machine and studying their old playbook for ideas.

News that US-Israeli forces took out Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and dozens more senior figures in the first hours of Saturday’s strikes means regime change has come to Iran — the only question is how much, and how quickly a civilized government can take over.
Iran’s rulers have been at war with “the great Satan” since they seized power amid the 1979 revolution, taking our diplomats hostage, masterminding the slaughter of our troops from Beirut to Baghdad, sending assassins to strike on our soil and more.
For decades, they’ve worked to acquire nuclear weapons and missiles that can strike the United States — capabilities they think would secure their rule forever

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, the clerical ruler who transformed Iran into one of the Middle East’s dominant powers, was killed by US-Israeli strikes on Saturday, a senior Israeli government source has told The Independent.
The source confirmed that he had been killed by the joint US-Israeli airstrikes which flattened his compound. The US launched a “major combat operation” overnight, Donald Trump said on Saturday. The Israeli military later confirmed that 200 warplanes were involved in attacking Iran.
The Iranian Supreme Leader's office accused the country's enemies of "mental warfare" following the Israeli claims.

A blockade on oil imports is leaving Cuba with few resources. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wants Cuba's government on its knees. The situation has become even more tense following a fatal confrontation at sea. In the early hours of Wednesday, a speedboat carrying 10 Cuban exiles drew near the coast of Cuba. It appears to have set out from Florida . It was intercepted by a patrol boat of the Cuban coastguard. There was an exchange of fire that left four people in the speedboat dead and the other six injured.

As the United States and Iran depart their third round of nuclear talks amid growing fears of another possible war in the Middle East, one man is hoping the US will launch a targeted attack on Iran, regardless of whether or not they reach a deal.
Reza Pahlavi, the exiled crown prince of Iran, has spent almost 50 years living abroad, serving as a rallying — but at times polarising — figure for opponents of Iran's regime.
In his view, if the US strikes the Iranian regime's nuclear facilities and apparatus, that could further weaken it and give Iran's people the chance to rise again.

Honest question: Why do Democrats spend so much time grandstanding against what the vast majority of Americans want?
Because it doesn’t make sense to me.
Case in point – Republicans in Congress want stricter voting requirements, such as voter ID and proof of citizenship. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (also known as the SAVE America Act) has already passed the House and is now before the Senate. At his State of the Union address on Feb. 24, President Donald Trump specifically called on the Senate to take up the bill.
"Congress should unite and enact this commonsense, country-saving legislation right now," Trump said.
