In the gathering dusk of a North Norfolk evening, where the North Sea mists drift in from a cold and indifferent sea, James Nye, 44, whose family has run East Anglian inns for 30 years, stands behind the bar of the White Horse in Holme-next-the-Sea. The pub, a low, Grade II-listed sentinel of stone and brick, flickers beneath strings of fairy lights that feel less festive than quietly defiant. Nye, steward of 10 inns, draws a pint of Adnams Ghost Ship while the low growl of tractors fades along the lanes outside – protest vehicles nursing wounds deeper than any fresh furrow.”

Not to worry - - the traditional English pubs will be replaced by doner kebab stands. They're a much better reflection of the direction where the UK is headed.

I am more than a skeptic (the true spelling, not the British form) of this publication. It goes on and on sopped with dreariness about the high monetary expectations of the govt, without even once mentioning the invasion of blood-sucking "refugees" who are draining the country of its finances, safety, history, freedoms, and culture.

Not a problem. As the English die out and no longer have children the muslims are ready to take over. Electricity, who needs electricity? We are headed "Back to the Future" where every year is the year 700. They could have forgotten all those fancy adverbs and adjectives and simply said "England is lost. Immigration wokeness killed it". End of story.

I relish the written word...and this certainly has them. It is much too long to be a modern "News" story, a bit short of a Novella, but, worth the read as it gives insight to the economic and social blight wrought upon the hinterlands by urban appetite. It also reveals a bit of historical social structure most american's are strangers to, not just the pubs themselves, but that they are attached to the nearby lands/estates, as if every local farm here also had a store, bar, or shop "In Town" employing the families of their workers, townies, providing an outlet of goods and services, as well as clawing back a bit of salaries paid without the odeur attached to a "Company store"

Britain has been slowly drawing the knife (scimitar?) across its own throat for years. They might as well flip off the lights and toss the keys to the next Muslim illegal that comes in the door. I feel for the old soldier the other day that said to the lefty newsbabe that no, as he looked back at his and his comrades sacrifice in WWII, he does not believe it was worth it. It was just a holding action until the fully incompetent could take over and pour the last drop of poison on Britain' glory. RIP.

Europeans in general and Brits in particular long to be ruled. They are not citizens; they are subjects. They are nice people with a rich history and culture, but a lot of that culture is being told what to do by their masters. We Americans have started revolutions for less, yet we are taxed at over 50% ourselves. Paying for ones own enslavement isn't cheap, it seems.

Like #7 says - while the article is excessively poetic, it’s completely divorced from reality. The writer describes the punishment of rural pubs as the whim of their far-away government masters. It is actually the result of Stirmer and his communist colleagues willfully turning over the law, culture, national pride, and finances to invading Muslims who are draining the country and making it unrecognizable. The writer needs to go to town once in a while.

I know rural England very well.. The author is 1oo% right. This is what a leftist government can do to the majority of a country by raising business taxes, raising minimum wages and emoving any assistance that migjgt have helped these small businesses - the little local pubs that are the community centers for those who live in he rural areas. The lights going out refers to beloved pubs being closed, not green energy. Some sound as fhough the writer is too emotional. He is writing about a great loss that has to do with lawmakers in London. And I thought we cared about "flyover country"...

A few months ago, I visited England for about ten days. We spent a couple of days in London, and the rest of the time out in the countryside touring castles and gardens. I got the impression that most Brits just don’t realize what’s going on. The tour guide waxed poetic about the national health program, saying “it’s free!” They just don’t get it. Their way of life is being destroyed, and if they’re not complicit, they’re complacent. They think all the bad stuff is happening just in the cities, like London. By the time their way of life is destroyed, they’ll wake up - but it will be too late. Sound familiar?

The left beclowns itself again and again It is actually rather sad … the Democrats keep trying out new narratives every couple of days. This week, it is the blowing up of narcoterrorist boats. This is a bad thing, they say. Cocaine from Venezuela has killed tens of thousands of Americans, but the Democrats are mad that our fabulous military is taking them off the map. Never mind that Venezuela has been shipping drugs to the U.S. and rigging elections around the world for decades. A few weeks ago, the Dems' hair was on fire over the Jeffrey Epstein documents they were demanding be released.

With the reversal of Roe, abortion legislation is now back in the hands of the states, but any success for the pro-life movement was unacceptable for New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin. Thus, he decided to target pro-life centers in New Jersey in a way that stood to intimidate the center’s donors, and possibly threaten its services: Platkin, a Democrat appointed by Gov. Phil Murphy, began scrutinizing pregnancy counseling centers in July 2022 by launching a ‘strike force’ to promote abortion access in the wake of the Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs decision. Platkin said such facilities presented consumer fraud concerns because they misled donors and clients about the services they offered.

(These three individuals are all still supported by most of the media and their fellow Democrats.)

If this were not a family news website, I would have used a more colorful title. One of the defining features of our age is the incredible stupidity of many of those in the public eye. People with the IQ of an acorn lecture us about climate change or that boys and girls are interchangeable like socks. Sports stars, music makers, billionaires, and Hollywood grandees can never find the off switch to their mouths when they discuss things that they do not understand. That never stops them. Whichever way the wind is blowing left, they add their views, though the world would be better off without their empty "wisdom."

There’s a reason that women like Olivia Nuzzi used to be shunned by polite society in more orderly times. Any woman who sets her sights on a married man is making a deliberate, selfish choice to cause pain to another woman. This is not a sisterly act. Through history, women who make enemies of other women are seen as lethal to the tribe’s cohesion and are cast out. That’s the way it was when shame existed, and genteel social norms had replaced stoning or drowning or other horrors the medieval world bestowed on women. Olivia Nuzzi's book "American Canto" was released this week and panned by critics.

Many Americans sense our country is drifting into turmoil—and, in many ways, it is. The headlines tell a grim story: an Afghan national once connected to U.S. intelligence is accused of shooting two National Guard troops in Washington, D.C.; New York City’s mayor-elect, a citizen only since 2018, lectures the Oval Office and his constituents on “international law”, apparently unaware of the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause; deeply troubling incidents involving migrant communities in Minnesota and Michigan; and an atmosphere of accusation coming from the political left, in which President Trump is alternately branded a dictator, a king, and a fascist. In such moments, people naturally look for clarity and explanation.
